Story
Copper was given to a family when he was a tiny puppy, as the owner had to go off to college, with the promise that one day she would return to him. When she finished, however, she did not come to collect Copper, and the family could no longer take care of him, so they asked me to look after him. As this was my first dog, the challenges were there, but Copper was well behaved enough to make the transition easier. Him being house trained was the biggest relief. Copper does not like cats, but lived with 5 other dog before me. He can be a little excited when meeting a new dog, so I haven't been sure how to best approach new animals around him. He's a loyal dog, and he'll follow around any friend and look for someone to play with. When he wants to go outside, he'll let you know. I wish I could continue to care for Copper, but financially, it isn't feasible for me right now to have a pet. That, and I am moving temporarily to Peru for several months to live with my fiancé and her parents.

Story
Meet Dexter! If you don't remember Dexter he was the dog found as a stray that had the one-pound tumor on his leg! He has had his surgery to get the tumor removed and he is all healed up and is looking for his furever home. He is estimated to be around 1-2 years old. He has done well with dogs he has met at the shelter but meet and greets are required if there will be other dogs in the home. He loves his people but does need training with jumping and being mouthy. He is a very silly boy that just needs structure. If you are interested in meeting Dexter the shelter is open Monday-Friday from 10am-3pm or you can call the shelter to schedule an appointment at 804-520-9397 ext.5

Story
Meet Ivy! This gorgeous girl is around 1-2 years old. We are unsure what she is mixed with, but we are guessing she has some husky in her due to her antics. She is such a sweet girl and SUPER energetic. She would love a family that goes to the lake, river or has a pool, she is a MAJOR water dog. She is looking for a super active family that can take her on long walks and plenty of adventures. She has done well with dogs she has met here but meet and greets are required. She would do well with children as long as she does get her energy out just due to the jumping around as she can be a wrecking ball at times. If interested in Ivy, the shelter is open Monday-Friday from 10am-3pm pending on if staff is in the building. You can also call the shelter at 804-520-9397 ext. 5 to set up an appointment!

Story
Meet Diablo! This handsome hunk was found as a stray and never claimed. Upon his arrival he hated it here! Very skittish and standoffish but now his personality has really started to shine! He is a nervous boy in his kennel but once he is out, he wide open. He is one that may require more then one meet and greet as it does sometimes take him a bit to fully open and show his full personality. He has done well with dogs he has met here( he really loves the ladies) but meet and greets are required if other dogs are in the home. His favorite things in the world are butt scratchys , treats and more butt scratchys. He is very treat motivated, he knows sit and paw that we have found out so far. When he gets super excited, he just prances around, and hops and it is adorable! He is estimated to be around 2 years old. If interested in Diablo, the shelter is open Monday-Friday 10am-3pm staff pending or you can call the shelter at 804-520-9397 ext.5 to schedule an appointment!
