Story
Meet Burly! What a sweet boy! He is a large, goofy guy who loves walks and attention. Despite being so big and strong, he is surprisingly gentle taking treats. Once his nose hits the ground he is on the move. He loves new smells and places to explore. He will happily return to you for treats. Burly would love a fenced-in yard or frequent leash walks for exercise and enrichment.Burly is a big, happy dude who loves to have fun! He loves to run and play with toys. He knows how to sit, and would love to learn some more tricks and manners. Burly is eager to please, especially if it involves cookies. He just wants a person and home to call his own. He has so much love to give. He's just waiting for his second chance. Call about this lovable guy today! We have noticed that Burly likes cats a little too much (will chase them), so we recommend he go into a home with none. He is curious but scared of chickens. Burly has done well with playing after very long and slow introductions. He can be unsure of new dogs, and needs to go at his pace. He doesn't like to share food or water bowls with other dogs. He should probably be the only pet in the home, but he would be the PERFECT family pet.He is current on all his age-appropriate vaccines, and preventatives, microchipped and neutered. Since being with us for more than 6 months, we consider him one our Lonely Hearts which makes his adoption $0 for the summer because he is being sponsored. Story
Meet Mickey! This big baby is a total love bug. He has won over the hearts of the staff, volunteers, and his foster family with his sweet nature. Mickey was surrendered to the shelter because his former owners could not afford his health care. He has been in an amazing foster home since March. According to his foster mom, he has been warming up right away with new visitors, and absolutely loves people! Once he feels comfortable, he bonds quickly! He is also house trained, crate trained, walks well on a leash, and has learned some basic obedience as well as a few tricks with ease! Mickey is also a dog that wants to engage and loves treats which has made him easy to train. Mickey has done well around his foster family's dog as well as other neighborhood dogs. He is neutral to all of them with the exception of one female hound that brings out his playful side! However, he is not a fan of cats and will go after them if given the opportunity.Mickey is microchipped, neutered, and up to date on all his age-appropriate vaccines and preventatives. Since being with us for more than 6 months, we consider him one of our Lonely Hearts which makes his adoption fee free thanks to a generous donor! Primary Color: White Secondary Color: Chocolate Weight: 60 Age: 5yrs 6mths 2wks

Meet Arnie! Arnie was very timid at first, but he's come out of his shell and enjoys going for sniffy walks and eating every last treat and crumb in our pockets. His favorite thing to do is raid the volunteers' treat pouches! Arnie has some cute quirks that make him the unique guy that he is. We're not sure if he's aspiring to be an acrobatist or a parkourist, but we still love him the same. He loves to bounce, skip, and jump with glee on his walks. He also loves to play with his dog friends at the shelter, so if you have another pup, please reach out to us for a meet & greet. Give this sweet boy a chance. Come ask about fun Arnie today - he is part of our Lonely Hearts Club since he has been in the shelter since the day after Thanksgiving last year. Adoption fee paid by generous donor! *Adopt Norman: Ways to have a Humorous Look at Life with a Gentle Giant* Are you ready to experience life on a grand scale? Do you have a spare room the size of a small country? If so, adopting an extra-large Saint Bernard Malinois named Norman might be the perfect addition to your life! Here's a little of what to expect when bringing home this gentle giant. *1. Furniture? What Furniture?* Say goodbye to that quaint living room setup you once had. With Norman, your furniture becomes mere accessories to their majestic sprawl. Don't worry; you can always cuddle up on the floor next to him. *2. Food Bills That Rival a Restaurant* Who needs to dine out when you have a dog that eats like a king? Your grocery budget will balloon as you stock up on kibble fit for a small army. Bonus points if Norman develops a taste for gourmet treats. *3. The Art of Sharing Space* Forget personal space; this Saint Bernard mix will be your constant companion, whether you're in the bathroom, cooking dinner, or trying to relax on the couch. He excels at the "lap dog" concept, even if he doesn’t quite fit in your lap. *4. Neighborhood Celebrity Status* Prepare for endless attention during walks. Passersby will marvel at the sheer size and majestic presence of your new furry friend. Be ready for questions like, "Is that a dog or a horse?" and "Can I take a selfie with your giant pup?" *5. Weather-Dependent Activities* Winter wonderland? Norman will revel in the snow, becoming a furry snowplow in the backyard. Summer heat? He will be the first to find the coolest spot in the house, preferably with a fan on full blast. *6. DIY Agility Courses* Who needs a professional agility course when you have a Norman? Everyday household items like chairs, tables, and laundry baskets become impromptu obstacles for your agile new giant to navigate. *7. Endless Love and Laughter* Despite the challenges (and occasional chaos) of living with an extra-large canine companion, the love, joy, and laughter he will bring into your life is truly priceless. From slobbery kisses to goofy antics, every day is an adventure with this gentle giant. So, if you're up for the challenge and ready to embrace a life of oversized cuddles and epic doggie adventures, consider adopting Norman. Your heart (and your home) will never be the same again! The perfect match is an active home with one or two permanent residents without younger kids. Experience with high-energy dogs is preferred, and apartment living isn't suitable. Compatibility with cats is uncertain. Apply to adopt Norman at greendogsunleashed.org/adopt/ At the time you are seeing this post, this dog is still available for adoption. But please know that we may be working on multiple applications already, and any one of them could be approved at any time. Please READ THIS ENTIRE DESCRIPTION and complete an adoption application, if you are interested in any of our animals. Application at www.greendogsunleashed.org If you send an inquiry to ask if the dog is still available, or just tell us you are interested, your inquiry will not be answered. FILL OUT AN APPLICATION. We can do NOTHING without that. No, we cannot tell you if he would be a match for your family without seeing an application. PLEASE KEEP READING for info. */*/* PLEASE NOTE: The first communication you will receive after completing an application will be an email response, which will have instructions on how to proceed. Please check your inbox AND spam folders for the next 48 hours, for this email. We will not begin processing an application without the information requested in that email. */*/* We are happy to consider applicants from out of state on most dogs. Please read the description to see if this dog is an exception. If the applicant is approved to adopt, they MUST be willing to come to our location in Troy, VA, for a meet and greet. If all parties agree that the pup and family are a good fit, they would take the pup home at that time. For more information about our mission and for an APPLICATION for adoption, please go to www.greendogsunleashed.com. GDU does ask a minimum adoption fee of $400.00. This does not even come close to covering all expenses created by animals while in rescue. We are funded solely by the angels and volunteers willing to donate time and finances. This minimum fee includes DAPP, rabies if age appropriate,, heartworm test and preventative, if age appropriate, and flea and tick treatment, as well as neutering or spaying, if the animal is medically sound to undergo surgery. In an attempt to avoid tummy upset from a sudden change of food, the foster family may include a small, transitional bag of the food the dog/puppy has been eating. And if the dog/puppy has grown attached to a special item (like a toy or blanket), they may send that along, as well. */*/* Young puppies will receive age-appropriate vaccines, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Adopters may be required to provide additional puppy boosters and at 16 weeks of age, a rabies vaccine. Future annual vaccines, testing and monthly heartworm preventative are REQUIRED, and will be the financial responsibility of the adopter. *****Due to the sheer number of animals and applications in our program, coupled with a limited number of volunteers, applicants MUST have patience as we process applications.   If you do not hear back from us, the animal may have been adopted.   We strive to let people know but sadly cannot offer reasons for denial beyond that.  Any harassment of our volunteers will go unanswered and we will simply block you.   Our volunteers spend their time working hard to ensure the very best for each animal.   Please remember the animal, not the applicant, is our client.*****  ##1667913##

Story
Behri is looking for a foster takeover or adopter! We recommend no small children. He has been at Muddy & Co. board and train since November and has gotten along with every dog he has met there. His time there is up, so he must find a new place instead of returning to shelter life. Behri is estimated to be about 3 years old and is a happy-go-lucky pup who loves attention! He was a perfect gentleman on our outing today to the park and Starbucks.Behri was surrendered to Fluvanna SPCA in August with an embedded collar and bite wounds. He became so stressed at the shelter that we knew he needed a break in order to find out what he would be like in a home. Jeff Nanni of Muddy & Co says he is ready for his forever home and is happy to help with the transition. He describes him as a "very sweet boy who can be off putting because of his stiffness". He does like to approach other dogs and check them out by putting his face in theirs, but he has successfully met and lived with many other dogs at Jeff's board and train facility with no issues at all. Basically, he's got some quirks, but who doesn't love a weirdo? He likes to play rough and rowdy with his canine friends but is gentle with small breeds like chihuahuas. Jeff also added that he is one of the quietest dogs he's ever met. Really, this guy is kind of perfect. He just needs someone to look past his first impression. He is housetrained, crate trained, and loves chewing on nylabones. Call (434) 591-0123 or send us a message and ask about our sweet Behri today! Primary Color: Tan Weight: 46 Age: 4yrs 4mths 0wks

Story
Meet Duncan! This adorable tripod is friendly, loves to play, and enjoys head rubs. Duncan loves long walks as well where he can explore. Despite one missing leg, he really is such a perfect pup. Duncan cannot wait for his forever family to come pick him up! So please, if you find this guy as charming as we do, come meet him today!Duncan came to us as a stray with his front left leg amputated, but we unfortunately do not know why. This however does not slow this big boy down. He is incredibly sweet with every person he has met, even when he was scared of the new environment. Adoption fee paid for and sponsored by a donor. Recently written by his previous adopter: returned after two fights with the resident dog. We are at this time recommending him to be an only dog. "Duncan, AKA Dunky Bear and Funky Dunky, is the sweetest, most loyal, and loving 3-legged wonder you'll ever meet. Duncan truly defies all odds with his personality being so pure, while missing a whole limb! Duncan LOVES attention and cuddles, and despite his size, thinks he's a teeny tiny lap dog! He will lick you to death, so you don't have to worry about bath time anymore (for his humans at least), because someone isn't a fan of bath time for himself! Unfortunately, Duncan can be easily stressed, and has had a couple of incidents with other dogs in the home, so he would be best with being the only pup, or a meet-and-greet because he does seem dog-selective, but who can blame him? He seems to have been through so much in his little life, yet is still such a sweetheart. He would gladly do anything for his human, as he has shown to be very loyal! He is very curious, so redirection is necessary sometimes, but he is easily redirected and is very very smart! He is house-trained, and is very food motivated! He loves his treats, chew toys, and anything else he can play with, even if it's not always a toy! He is a truly one-of-a-kind, and he deserves the world! Please give this wonderful, loving, and full-of-life baby a chance!" Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 64 Age: 5yrs 8mths 0wks
