Story
Do you KNOW and love the husky breeds? Are you a single-dog kind of person, with no desire for other animals in your life? Elfie could be the perfect dog for you! Husky experience, and love of the classic sassiness that the breed exemplifies, is a requirement for her next home. Elfie came to us when her prior home was not a good match for her because she is not good around other animals. She`s done well with humans, but this small package has a high prey drive, and should not be around other animals. She has not done well meeting other dogs in her prior home, and we have not had a chance yet to do dog intros with her while at CVHS, so we are looking for a home where she can be the only animal.Elfie would do best with older kids (teenagers and up), and likes to cuddle, on her terms. She relaxes nicely in a crate, as long as there are no other animals around, and enjoys couch time getting belly rubs.Elfie is smart as a whip, and really enjoys learning new things with force-free training. She has a bit of the typical husky aloofness, but is also very attentive to the people she loves.A 5-week Good Manners training course is included in Elfie`s $350.00 adoption fee. Please call the Adoption Center at 802-476-3811, or email info@centralvermonthumane.org, to schedule a time to talk to an adoption counselor about her, and to determine if you should meet Elfie.

Story
Tickles came to us when the person he`d spent his entire life with lost their home, and could not find anywhere to live, especially with multiple pets. Tickles arrived with two other dogs, and was adopted into a loving home with littermate Hotdog. Unfortunately, as sometimes happens with littermates who have been together their entire lives, these two have decided that 14 years with their sibling is plenty long enough! So they are back with us, hanging out in separate condos this time, and we are looking for homes for them individually. Tickles is a friendly and cheerful dog, and quite active in our fenced-in yards, despite his age. Keeping him active is important for his on-going need to get to a healthier weight. In the past, Tickles lived with other dogs, cats, children, and even farm animals, but maybe he`s now wishing to spend his golden years getting all the attention for himself. We can talk about whether other animals in the home would be a match for him. When you adopt an elder pet, you are truly doing it for them, to focus on their needs: medical, physical, and emotional. The love and devotion you get back may be a brief time, but it`s absolutely priceless. If you are looking for a real character to add to your life, who will give you plenty of laughs and love, Tickles could be just what you are looking for! Could you be the next loving home in his journey? The adoption fee for Tickles is $100, and if his new person would like to take a Good Manners training course, that will be available at our discounted fee of $100. Please call the Adoption Center at 802-476-3811, or email info@centralvermonthumane.org, to schedule a time to talk to an adoption counselor about Tickles, and to determine if you should meet him.

Story
Valkyrie came to us when her family`s new living arrangement did not enable them to give her the life they believe she deserves, and they wanted more for their beloved pet.Valkyrie LOVES people, of all ages, and always wants to be in the midst of what whatever is going on. Small children are probably not a good choice for her, but only because her lack of body awareness could mean little ones getting knocked over. If they are sturdy, and dog-savvy, she`d be fine with them -- she LOVES kids. She likes playing tug-of-war, and a modified fetch where she plays keep-away, and she really loves to be chased. When she`s not actively playing, she loves to cuddle with people, and she really enjoys a cozy dog bed and plush toys. Valkyrie loves trail walks and hiking, but needs a little more work on her leash skills, and is responding very nicely to Positive Reinforcement, force-free training. If you love the song of the hounds, Valkyrie will happily sing for you.Valkyrie would prefer not to have big dogs around her. She was attacked a year ago by a larger dog, and since then has been uncertain around other dogs. She could probably have dogs friends that she is introduced to properly, and who are not rough. She was VERY interested in squirrels in her prior home, and will follow that hound nose wherever they go, so she either needs a fenced-in yard, or a human who will be aware on walks. She goes after cats persistently, with the wrong intentions, so she should NOT live with cats.Valkyrie sleeps well in a crate at night, and when home alone during the day she slept nicely in a bedroom. Valkyrie LOVES car rides, so is happy to go wherever your adventures take you! A 5-week Good Manners training course is included in Valkyrie`s $350.00 adoption fee. Please call the Adoption Center at 802-476-3811, or email info@centralvermonthumane.org, to schedule a time to talk to an adoption counselor about her, and to determine if you should meet Valkyrie.

Story
Navy came with his housemate Sprout to CVHS when his family had major life challenges. Navy is very friendly, will jump to greet you, and possibly try to be in your skin. He loves car rides, attention from humans, and to run! He has previously lived with a child under 6 years old, but he`s a jumpy boy, so older kids in his new home would be best. He does great with pal Sprout but hasn`t made any other dog friends in a while. Navy cannot live with cats, as he will chase them, and not playfully. When his people were not around, he was confined to the kitchen and did well for a few hours at a time. He is not crate trained.A 5-week Good Manners training course is included in Navy`s $350.00 adoption fee. Please call the Adoption Center at 802-476-3811, or email info@centralvermonthumane.org, to schedule a time to talk to an adoption counselor about him, and to determine if you should meet Navy.

Story
Toad is a big boy with a big personality. He is looking for an owner who is active, and can give him the energy outlet that he needs. He is working with our staff on using a harness, as he is a big puller. He came to us through an Animal Control Officer, so we do not know a lot about his background. He did apparently live with another dog previously, but we have no information about how they felt about each other. As he settles in here at the adoption center, he seems curious about other dogs in a positive way, but is healing from a recent neuter, so has not had direct play time. Once healed, we will do a dog introduction to see if he might do well with a canine friend in his next home. Due to Toad being a bull in a china shop, he`s not recommended to go home with young children or cats. A 5-week Good Manners training course is included in Toad`s $350.00 adoption fee. Please call the Adoption Center at 802-476-3811, or email info@centralvermonthumane.org, to schedule a time to talk to an adoption counselor about him, and to determine if you should meet Toad.
