Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.ATDRThis little angel is Sugar Buns, she is a blue and tan dachshund with congenital alopecia! Sadly, she suffered an injury to her spine that left her paralyzed. After laser treatments and many other heartfelt efforts to try and help her, her family tearfully made the ultimate loving sacrifice and surrendered their beloved baby girl to ATDR so that she could receive the even more costly care she needed. Sugar Buns has been given stem cells and other specialized IVDD treatments at Safari Veterinary Care Center and in-house physical therapy there that appears to be having good results. See video posted below.  Sugar Buns is a sweet and loving girl who freely gives kisses to those she meets. She’s so deserving of having a normal life again where she can move around and enjoy life.  She now is able to walk albeit a little wobbly but she flies around the house and yard like she is the queen!  She uses the doggie door and mostly controls her bladder unless she can't quite get to the door or pad in time - but it isn't the end of the world.  She knows she needs to go outside she just doesn't always make it in time.  The kind of care she's received at Safari is very costly, but with the help of kind-hearted generous animal lovers like all of you ATDR is able to save precious pups life Sugar Buns. If you would like to help ATDR help this darling girl, please go to the Donate button on the left-hand side of this page or mail a check to ATDR’s address near the top of that column. No amount could ever be too little and anything would be greatly appreciated. ATDR thanks you in advance for being a part of Sugar Buns journey back to better mobility and health.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 6, 2024, 2:57 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.ATDR 3077Say hello to Bonnie! This cute little Chiweenie girl somehow found herself in a Central Texas shelter, but when ATDR was contacted, we immediately rushed to her rescue! She’s now safely tucked away in a comfortable foster home where it is reported that she is super friendly and has a smile on her face all the time! When she smiles, she shows her teeth and is absolutely adorable!  Her foster mom reports that she loves other dogs and cats but she doesn't trust strangers. If you have people in and out of your house, she would probably need to be crated or secured in a different room because she's extremely protective! Once she becomes comfortable with her person, she is super sweet to that person, but remains very afraid of strangers to her because of previous abuse she's suffered before coming into rescue. She acts like a young dog and is very athletic. She is a quiet pup unless she sees something new and then she will bark so apartment or condo living will not work for her or you. She is a lovely pet, but will need to be in the right home...children and/or multiple people coming and going would not be the right match for Bonnie. Bonnie adores snuggling with or without other pets in her foster mom’s lap and would stay there for hours if she could! If she goes to a forever home with another dog who is calm and playful sometimes (not a younger playful one), she would play with them. Bonnie uses pee pads consistently but her foster mom believes she would be easy to housebreak because she is very smart and loves to please.  This girl is a Houdini who easily climbs and jumps fences, so a forever home must have a 6-foot smooth on the inside fence (not chain link) because she will climb if given the opportunity.  She becomes terrified if you raise your voice and will dive over, through and under anything when she is scared. She has suffered some fairly significant abuse in her past so is very upset if you are upset. A gentle voice and praise works best with her. She is hyper alert and has a tendency to be a barker, so apartment or condo living is not advised. She may calm down and bark less as she feels more secure.  In summary, Bonnie must go to a home with very few visitors because she is extremely protective. She definitely would not do well in a home with children of any age or teenagers due to her tendency to become frightened at sudden movements and loud noises...she would bolt and could become feral in a minute! A quiet home where someone who works from home or is retired loves having a warm little pup in their lap would be perfect for her. She wants to be with her person if at all possible, but she is not super clingy.  If you’re an adult home looking for a little friend and companion to love and share quiet time with, please submit an adoption application for Bonnie Stein! She’ll warm your heart and lap in no time!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 6, 2024, 2:57 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.ATDR 3656 Say hello to Mya! Her foster mom reports that this cute girl is sassy, smart and happy! She uses the doggie door out to the yard she enjoys and sleeps in her crate at night. Mya gets along with the other dogs in her foster home but has a slightly dominant personality. She will need to go to a home where there are no alpha dogs to compete with her. She also barks when she gets excited so would not be good for apartment or condo living with shared walls. If you live in a house with a yard and you're looking for a great little dog to share the good things in life with, please submit an adoption application for Mya. She's ready and waiting to be your devoted best friend and companion.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 6, 2024, 2:57 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.ATDRMeet Amos. He and his brother Kyler lost their beloved mom and have been in the care of family members who couldn't keep them long term. When asked, ATDR said yes to these two and vowed to find the best loving home possible. Amos is the most stressed of the pair and depends on his brother for security and even more for helping him navigate his new surroundings. Amos, a true standard, is sight impaired SARDS and we confirmed with with a visit to the ophthalmologist.   Amos follows his buddy around and they are totally devoted to one another.  Kyler acts as his eyes and helps him by herding him and showing him the ropes.  Stay tuned while they both learn the ropes in their foster home and we get them totally vetted and feeling better both physically and mentally.   Amos and Kyler are very bonded and must be adopted together. If you have it in your heart to heal their little broken hearts and make them feel whole and secure again, please submit an adoption application for Amos and Kyler. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 6, 2024, 2:57 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.ATDRDragon is a sweet and cuddly 7-8 year-old mini red male duchshund. After IVDD left him with almost no use of his back end, back surgery, stem cell treatment, physical therapy, and some extra love have helped him regain movement. He loves squeaky toys, playing ball, and being near you. Dragon practices using his legs every day with his foster family so he can walk into his forever home some day soon. With gentle and careful handling always, Dragon will enjoy a full and happy life. The perfect home for this precious boy will be with a person or a couple who have no children he would ever have to deal with. If you have it in your heart to offer this little sweetheart the loving, well cared for home he deserves, please submit an adoption application for Dragon. He will be the best little friend you could ever hope to have.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 6, 2024, 2:57 pm
