Story
Benny was found running the streets in a stray dog pack in the Rio Grande Valley. When he first came here, he was fearful around men and could be a bully to new dogs, but he's come a long way since then. Once he gets to know you, he's a sweet, funny, playful dog who wants to be with you as much as possible. Benny was initially cat-aggressive, but he's been around cats for several months and has grown used to them. He mostly ignores them but sometimes chases them. He can be around cats, but should not be left alone with them. (I kennel him when we leave.) Benny gets along well with most female dogs, but he can be dominant towards male dogs. He shows some resource guarding of both food and people and seems to want to "defend" his people from other dogs. That doesn't mean he can't get along with other dogs or other male dogs, but he needs to be introduced to other dogs carefully. The same can be true for introducing him to new people---he needs some time to build trust. Someone who is willing to take time and socialize Benny with other people and animals would be a great adopter. Benny is a great dog who really wants to please. He is loving, affectionate, and playful.

Story
Meet Gil, the charming mixed breed with the soulful eyes and kindest smile! Gil stands out at the shelter with his endearing personality and gentle nature. Walking with Gil is a delightful experience, on account of his wonderful leash manners and eagerness to please. He also loves to play fetch and has good interactions with children. He is remarkably intelligent, and quickly learns new skills with ease. His treat-motivated nature adds an extra layer of fun to training sessions, as he eagerly responds to cues and patiently awaits his reward! He knows commands and is potty trained. He does not do well with cats as he tends to see them more as playmates. As far as dogs go Gil has had many friends at the shelter, however we have noticed that he prefers submissive female dogs. This is the reason he is listed as selective with canine companions. Gil is also a champion snuggle bug and he loves to cozy up in any open lap. Gil's kind disposition and affectionate nature make him the perfect furry friend for families seeking a devoted companion to share in life's adventures. He also absolutely loves to play in water so he is perfect to take swimming. Come say hello to this sweet boy, he can't wait to meet you!

Introducing Reno, the tall and lanky canine with a heart full of love and a goofy disposition! Reno is young, athletic, and playful; he is the embodiment of absolute joy and he can light up a room with his beautiful smile. He is very friendly and gets along well with dogs of all shapes and sizes, his play style is energetic yet submissive. Reno can sometimes get a bit nippy so we believe he would do best with older children in the home. Reno often attends PAWS off-site adoption events, where he always shows off his exceptional manners and outgoing personality. Reno should not live with cats as he tends to see them more as playmates. Reno also enjoys frequent outings with his most favorite volunteers. He is quite cultured and enjoys visiting public places such as parks, cafes, and feed stores. He loves car rides and hops right in, so happy to go anywhere his people are going! Reno has lovely leash manners, he is such a gentleman and very easy to handle. If you are looking for a loyal and affectionate companion who will always bring a smile to your face, Reno is your boy! He is absolutely delightful in every way, and he will be a wonderful addition to any family lucky enough to adopt him.

Story
Meet Indiana (Indy), a most handsome blend of Shepherd and Border Collie! True to his heritage, Indy is highly intelligent and very athletic. He relishes physical activity such as romping in the play yards and hiking the trails with his favorite volunteers. His happy energy is boundless; he is a perfect workout buddy for someone who loves to run and exercise outdoors! Here are some glowing notes his foster family shared with us: "Indiana is such a sweet and affectionate boy! The way he belly crawls into our laps and gives full-body hugs just melts our hearts. Indy is extremely smart and easy to teach, and has already mastered basic commands like "come and "sit. He is potty-trained, sleeps quietly all night in his kennel, and he has lovely house manners. This handsome boy plays so nicely with other dogs, he and his PAWS foster brother (Theo) have so much fun together! Indy just adores people, he is instant friends with adults and kids alike. A cool thing about Indy is that even though he is part Border Collie, he has no desire whatsoever to herd or chase our livestock. You can see in the photos he wanders peacefully around our horses like they aren't even there. He would do great as a family pet or a farm dog, he is such a good boy! INDY gets serious "wiggle-booty" when excited and mimics the movements of a sssssnake!

Story
This is beautiful Godiva, the delightful pup who captures the hearts of everyone she meets with her irresistible charm and loving spirit! She is incredibly sociable and adores human affection, forming deep connections and bonding strongly with her people. Godiva's affectionate nature makes her a favorite among shelter staff and visitors alike. We believe she would do best with older children rather than younger. She eagerly greets every new face with a wag of her tail and a gentle nuzzle. She is not a big fan of cats or other dogs, so she will do best in a home where she is the only furry companion. Godiva has one of the brightest minds and quickly picks up on new commands. She knows all the basics in addition to some fun tricks, she'll even give hugs and kisses when asked! This sweet girl is also potty trained and she has lovely house manners. She walks perfectly on a leash and enjoys quiet strolls with her person. She behaves so beautifully in foster homes and during shelter breaks with her favorite volunteers. This video shows how perfect she is: https://www.instagram.com/reel/C1MsCnkuymD/?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA%3D%3D Recently, Godiva starred in her first news debut as a featured pet of the week and she did wonderfully traveling and on set! As Godiva patiently waits for forever home, her spirit remains unbroken and her hopeful gaze is a testament to her enduring resilience. For those fortunate enough to welcome Godiva into their lives, their reward is a loyal and loving friend who will bring joy, laughter, and endless love to their home for years to come.

Story
Texas, a medium-sized dog with a heart full of loyalty and affection, is the embodiment of charm and unique quirks that make him a truly unforgettable companion. His journey began at PAWS in August 2020, where his gentle demeanor and stunning appearance quickly won hearts, leading to his adoption just a couple of months later. However, due to unforeseen financial issues, Texas was sadly returned to the shelter almost three years later. Texas is now a long stay at PAWS, but his story has taken a positive turn. He's currently in a committed foster home, where he's thriving and has proven to be an exceptional companion, especially with the cats in his foster family. His foster family has had nothing but praise for Texas, highlighting his seamless transition into their home and the bond they have formed. Texas' personality is a unique blend of affection and quirks. While he can be fearful of men, he just needs a bit more time and patience to get comfortable around them. In fact, he loves his current foster dad! His love for human affection shines through as he eagerly cozies up in laps and showers his loved ones with endless cuddles. His endearing bond with cats makes him an ideal match for households with feline companions. Texas is selective with other dogs and has had a few past dog friends, though he'd probably be better suited as the only dog in the home. Housebroken, well-behaved, and incredibly smart, Texas knows multiple commands such as "sit" and "lay down." His love for water adds a fun twist to his daily routine, and he thrives in environments with plenty of space to explore. He is not suited for homes with small children, but his loyalty and affection make him a cherished member of the family, perfect for those seeking a devoted companion.
