Story
This little cutie has been adopted,,, but check back for newcomers soon.   This little cutie is estimated to be 10-12 years old,, but she's got the spunk of someone much younger..... She's bright eyed and bushy tailed, as they say,,, and always rarin' to go and keep up with any activity going on in her vicinity. She gets along fine with the other small dogs except when access to a food bowl might become contentious.  She was brought into rescue and immediately updated on her vaccinations and heartworm testing as well as being spayed and having a dental done... So now she's ready to go somewhere where she's get lots of love and attention..... She's only about 9#,,,,, so perfect for someone wanting a pint sized lap companion.November 6, 2024, 12:12 am

Story
TOBY HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!!   This little fella is a real love bug!  I'm hoping one of the kind of adopters who call and ask for a sweet little lap dog will decide he's the right one.  He wants to be with his human all the time,,, so needs someone who is around home most of the time. He's thru his vetting,,,, he got a dental done this week and  is ready to go.  I figured a little preview might be a good idea so you got to see his "before pics".... now I have a couple newer ones to share We think Toby is about 10 years old and he weighs about 14 pounds.  So far, he's been happy to interact with every human he's met.  He's been fine with all the other dogs, but doesn't seem to have much interest in them, one way or the other,,,, he wants a person.  We haven't had any opportunity to see how he is with cats.November 6, 2024, 12:12 am

Story
This little fella needs to find a very special adopter!!  We don't know much about his background, but he came to us because his person had died,, and after the trauma of that event,, he had to deal with strange people and new places and other critters and it was all a bit much for him.... His default position when scared is to growl and snarl! We set him up in a nice quiet spot without anyone threatening on the other side of a partition, and just pretty much let him chill..... One day a week or two into this routine, it was like a light switch had been turned on!  He decided I was an okay person and the growling and snarling was replaced by an enthusiastic little dog spinning and jumping around and wanting to give kisses. He didn't initially want anything to do with the other small dogs, but after a bit he decided they were okay and he likes to go out in the area with them and explore,  he doesn't have much to do with them as far as playing, but there is no aggression.  We've also learned that he has a definite preference for the ladies.... Skipper needs a quiet environment with not a lot of folks coming and going and I would be concerned that kids wouldn't read his signals well enough  not to create a problem..... So we need to find just the right home for him.  He's not snapped or bit anyone here and we want that record to continue..... and it will require time and patience and  consistency to manage that. If you are up for the challenge and feel you have the situation and the commitment to give this little dog that stability he needs to feel safe and loved again.... we'd love to discuss it with you. We have an update on Skipper's health that might discourage some folks from pursuing the adoption idea...... He has a significant heart murmur, and while we are treating that with oral meds, there is a possibility that the condition could progress to heart failure with a very hard to estimate time line.November 20, 2024, 4:12 pm

Story
,,,, Molly is the typical cream or light blond Peke.  Her coat looked like she's had it rough for awhile, but that has improved with time and good food.  And she loves food.   She's a real sweet girl who came to us blind and after checking with our vet, it was determined that while she had no vision, her eyes weren't bothering her at all, so we just left well enough alone. She adapts well to new surroundings and has been remarkable in her ability to wander around amongst other small dogs and just find her way without any problem.  Blindness is totally different for dogs than we humans think it would be,,,, vision isn't the sense they depend on most... She has developed a heighten sense of smell I guess,,, and can notice a hot dog treat at quite a distance! December 14, 2024, 11:36 am

Story
Update on ViVi..... she was adopted into a multi-pet household and over a period of a couple months, she made it quite clear that she wasn't very interested in sharing space with other dogs... She seems quite fine with  cats,,, but became quite territorial with the dogs. So we're looking for a more appropriate home for this little girl.... she gets around real well,,, seems to be in need of a bit of a diet,,, as carrying extra weight on three legs won't help her in the long run.  But otherwise,,, she's happy healthy and ready to find a place where she can be queen of the castle. We've been having a new adventure recently!  We took in a little Peke girl who had sustained an injury to one front leg that had destroyed the nerves,,, so while the leg was not broken,,, it was useless and not fixable.... She has recently gone thru the surgery to have that leg amputated and does amazingly well on three legs ,,, both before dealing with the useless one,, and since even better without that nuisance..... She's a darling little girl ,, she's been spayed and all ready to find a forever home with someone who doesn't need to provide much in the way of special treatment,, but who will need to be careful that she doesn't do more than she should as far as jumping off things and dealing with stairs etc.... (she doesn't consider herself the least bit handicapped and won't hesitate to try things on her own). She has been kept pretty much on her own here, but has interacted with several other small dogs.  The rest of our crew are pretty much old, blind, or grumpy,,, so she's not had much opportunity to find a suitable playmate.  Nor has she seemed unhappy when she was left without other canine company. She will be a wonderful companion for someone and just needs a person to keep an eye on her enthusiasm and youthful exuberance....  December 14, 2024, 11:36 am

Story
See Courtesy Posting Disclaimer * Nia is a gorgeous high energy chow/husky mix. She loves to hike and be outside!. She has a very high prey drive and will dig out of a fence at times if there is incentive (prey). She does fine with not going over a fence and so far has done very well with a woven wire fence. Nia appears housebroken and crate trained but she is not trustworthy with cats. Nia would do best in a home with no small children/younger children, a fenced back yard, an active experienced owner, no other female dogs, likely no cats, and maybe a male dog friend. Nia gets along with two boy dogs in her foster home, but not with the largest male dog, and definitely not with the female dog in the house. Nia's history is unknown as she was a stray. However, Nia is very slow to trust men. She warms up pretty quickly to most women.   Nia already knows: sit, down, wait, drop it and leave it. She is very smart! She leash walks with a martingale collar and can easily hike up to 4 or more miles. She also loves squeaky toys and will toss them up to play. True to breed, Nia has a double coat and will shed out. She does well with brushing though and also loves belly rubs.   Nia is about 5 yrs old, up to date on vaccines, spayed, and current on heartworm and flea/tick prevention. . Please email critterdoc09@gmail.com if you are interested in meeting Nia.*Please be aware that this animal is a courtesy posting for the owner ONLY.
