Story
"Dogs bring special gifts to those who live with them." This makes us think of our dear Meech, who will be such a fun and devoted family companion!
Why we love him: Meech has such an exuberant personality and is one of the first dogs we take out every day. He is such wonderful friend!
This great dog is truly the resident hunk of our kennels! Meech is two years old and weighs 60 pounds. His shiny black coat has snow white markings on his chest and his warm brown eyes reflect a joy for life. Meech is so handsome!
He is an active companion on daily walks and will go for as long as you want. Meech would be an enthusiastic hiking or running buddy, too. He loves to roll on the ground, kick up his legs, and have a belly rub after he is done. We enjoy seeing him have such a great time!
Meech looks forward to play time in the fenced yard, where he bounds about joyfully and has such fun. He is so athletic and agile! He especially enjoys playing with the toys and is always ready for a game of fetch. One of his favorite things is splashing around in the doggy pool during the warm months.
Meech has had a blast in play groups with his fellow shelter companions and is an absolute star! If you have another dog, we do require a meet and greet to ensure compatibility.
Meech has such a friendly, good natured personality and is a wonderful cuddle buddy! He loves to crawl on your lap to be petted and enjoy the day with you! We enjoy his company so much! Meech truly has a heart full of love he gladly shares!
One of our dedicated volunteers says: "Meech is the first dog I take out at the shelter! I truly enjoy his happy go lucky, effervescent demeanor. Meech is one of the smartest, most loving and fun dogs I have ever met. Every day is a true adventure for him! He is the best lap dog, too!"
Another volunteer took Meech on an outing at a local park and she reports: "The sweetest moment ever was as I was driving and Meech stood and put his head over my shoulder to rest his head against my chest! It was the closest thing to a doggie hug I have ever experienced and it totally melted me! We also spent portions of the drive “cheek to cheek” so he could see the road as I drove and stay close. I have never had a pup do this and it was such a sweet gesture." Meech also loved his hike in the woods and relaxing on a swing."
Meech attended an offsite event and was the best representative for our shelter!
Meech is very bright and will already sit, offer you his paw to shake and roll over.
Smart, handsome, and so much fun - Meech is all of this and much more!
Meech will be such an amazing companion and the best buddy a family could want! He is much loved by our staff and volunteers!
Lucky Meech is currently spending some time at the home of one of our dedicated volunteers. Patrick, his foster Dad, says: "Meech has a lot of energy and loves to run around and play a lot outdoors particularly watching birds, squirrels and he keeps a close watch on neighborhood cats. He is for sure a high energy dog but at nighttime becomes quite the cuddler and can be very affectionate once he knows you well. You can tell when Meech is happy because he gets a little excited and has a very unique low pitch bark and wants to play.
Meech will crate but really doesn't care for it and sleeps reasonably well all night. He does bark some if he hears loud noises but does this only minimally. He is a big chewer so he needs to have plenty of chew toys and you should not leave anything where he can get it to prevent him chewing it." So far I have not had him chew my furniture or anything of value. Just things like pillows and cloth and pads and the like. I really want to find the person or family that needs this dog. He is very much a people dog and will enjoy your presence. Meech listens well and follows many voice commands as he seems to be a very intelligent dog and always wants to please you."
To sum up:
THE GREAT:
*Smart, with amazing recall
*Loyal
*Affectionate and cuddly
*Silly and playful
*Housetrained
*People oriented
*He likes some, but not all dogs, so a meet and greet would be required
*Likes kids
*Knows many commands including Sit, Come, Settle, Off, Down, & Roll Over
WORKING ON:
*Separation anxiety - he stresses when he sees you leaving but will settle once out of site (as seen on camera)
*Can become amped up and play a little rough if bored or overstimulated. This usually involves him being jumpy or grabbing at shirt sleeves or shoe laces. Leaving him and returning minutes later helps.
*Tolerates storms but does not like loud unexpected sounds such as lawnmowers, weed eaters, motorcycles, and fireworks
Takes CBD calming chews and has a thundershirt to help with these things.
HIS IDEAL HOME:
*Dog savvy owner(s)
*Fenced yard
*No kids or older kids
*No dogs or a well matched one
*Someone who is home a lot
*Consistent, structured schedule
WILL COME WITH:
*Thundershirt
*Durable Crate
*Session with Trainer
*Our gratitude
Since Meech is not at the shelter, we will put you in touch with his foster to set up a meet and greet.
