Story
Meet Namaste! This handsome 6-year-old boy has spent the last several years here at Animal Friends and is counting down the minutes until he finds his forever home. He loves being outside on walks and enjoys enrichment like sniffle mats and ripping up egg cartons full of treats. Our behavior team has done a lot of positive reinforcement training in with him here in the shelter and he will benefit from continued training in his new home. Namaste can go to an adult only home and wants to be the king of his castle and your only pet to soak up all your attention for himself! This 45lb boy is also a part of our Foster-To-Adopt program, which means for 4 weeks our trainers here at Animal Friends will work with you and Namaste on his behavior and positive reinforcement training to facilitate a gentle transition into his new home. He is the perfect example of our mission: to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals. This dog is also a part of our Rosie's Rule program. Animal Friends has teamed up with Fi Smart Dog Collar to provide GPS-enabled dog collars for Animal Friends’ canine residents who are at an increased risk of becoming separated from their handler and not being safely reunited. These dogs may startle easily, have had a lack of human socialization or attempt to flee or hide in unfamiliar settings. Once outfitted with a Fi collar, Rosie’s Rule dogs will keep their collar through adoption along with a one-year subscription to the Fi App – at no cost to their new family. Namaste is one of our Extra Loved residents. Although all our resident animals get plenty of love, many of them come from backgrounds where they may need a little extra care, extra attention, and extra patience. To help this special resident find their adoptive home, a generous donor has sponsored their adoption donation, to help them feel extra loved! Fill out an application; thinkingoutsidethecage.org All of our animals are altered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines before being made available for adoption. Story
Meet Yogi! He is a happy, loved boy here at Animal Friends, but unfortunately his life before coming here was difficult. This cute boy came to the shelter through our Humane Investigation department as just a small puppy. Due to Yogi's court case, he had no choice but to grow up in the shelter. Yogi has made so many friends, learned wonderful doggy manners, and has made great strides during his time here with us. Now it is finally time for this boy to get to know a true home! This 50lb boy is also a part of our Foster-To-Adopt program, which means for 4 weeks our trainers here at Animal Friends will work with you and Yogi on his behavior and training within his new home. Yogi is a high energy boy who loves to play, and do enrichment, but Yogi does need to live in a home that is adults-only. He also could potentially live with another dog pending a successful meet and greet. Yogi is one of our Extra Loved residents. Although all of our resident animals get plenty of love, many of them come from backgrounds that require them to need a little extra. Extra care. Extra attention. Extra patience. They've certainly been extra loved here! If you have room in your heart and your home to give one of our special animals, check with our Adoption team to learn about our Extra Loved program and if there is any additional support we may be able to offer alongside your adoption! This dog is also a part of our Rosie's Rule program. Animal Friends has teamed up with Fi Smart Dog Collar to provide GPS-enabled dog collars for Animal Friends’ canine residents who are at an increased risk of becoming separated from their handler and not being safely reunited. Story
This handsome guy is RJ! He came to Animal Friends as part of a transfer from another organization. Throughout the months RJ has been with us, he has shown us how intelligent and playful he is. While interacting with staff and volunteers, RJ has learned obedience commands, and would love to expand upon training in his new home. He loves having his daily enrichment time, and adopters should continue providing opportunities for him to sniff, solve puzzles, and more! RJ takes some time to warm up to new people, and may prefer to meet a few times before finally going home! RJ can go home to a family with children 13 years or older and can not live with any smaller mammals like cats or rabbits. RJ can be dog selective, and would prefer to go as a single dog; he might enjoy some canine friends, but not a roommate! RJ is one of our Extra Loved residents. Although all our resident animals get plenty of love, many of them come from backgrounds where they may need a little extra care, extra attention, and extra patience. To help this special resident find their adoptive home, a generous donor has sponsored their adoption donation, to help them feel extra loved! RJ is a part of our Foster-To-Adopt program, which means for 3 weeks our trainers here at Animal Friends will work with you and RJ on his behavior and positive reinforcement training to facilitate a gentle transition into his new home. Story
Meet Voter! Voter came to us in the fall of 2022 as a stray, but she isn't looking to live that lifestyle anymore. Voter loves walks along our trails and rolling around in the grass. Voter's love language is respecting her boundaries and taking your time when getting to know her; she needs some time and patience (and lots of treats!) but trust us when we say it will pay off. She loves ear scratches and belly rubs from people she trusts and has an established bond with. Voter is incredibly smart and ready to continue her positive reinforcement training in her new home. She would prefer that all her family members are at least 13 years old and though she doesn't get along with cats, she could potentially go to a home with other dogs pending a successful meet and greet. This dog is also a part of our Rosie's Rule program. Animal Friends has teamed up with Fi Smart Dog Collar to provide GPS-enabled dog collars for Animal Friends’ canine residents who may be at an increased risk of becoming separated from their handler. Story
Meet Theo! This sweet, but still very shy guy came to the shelter through a Humane Investigations case for having too many dogs within the home. Theo is still learning on how to be comfortable around humans so he would benefit from a loving and patient home, who will allow him plenty of time to adjust. He would prefer a home with children 13 years or older. Theo has previously lived with a cat in his foster home, and could possibly live with other dogs pending a successful meet and greet. Since Theo can be nervous around people he does not know - he is unable to live in any type of communal living environments. Theo is one of Aurora's "Special Canines", meaning that his requested adoption donation has been underwritten, and his new family will receive a starter kit of supplies and other support based on his unique needs. This special package is made possible by Aurora's Special Canines Fund established in honor of a spunky little dog named Aurora to ensure that dogs in our care who are struggling to find a suitable home due to their age, or unique medical or behavior needs are given that extra support. Theo is a part of our Foster-To-Adopt program, which means for 3 weeks our trainers here at Animal Friends will work with you and Theo on his behavior and positive reinforcement training to facilitate a gentle transition into his new home. He is the perfect example of our mission: to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals. Interested? Story
Meet Parker! Parker was brought in through our Humane Investigations Department after unfortunately being found in a crate inside of a dumpster. We don't know much about this boy's past, but we are working with him and getting to know him every day. What we have learned so far is that this smart boy is absolutely goofy, loves pets and cuddles, and is a ball of fun. We've also learned that Parker does not like other dogs or cats, so he needs to be the only animal in his home and should live with kids 13+. Parker's ideal adopters should not live in communal housing and won't be able to take him to dog parks, to help him avoid other doggies and be his best self. Parker is also currently undergoing muzzle training and is doing an incredible job with it! Parker is available as a Foster-to-adopt dog so that his future adopters get the best start with him and have access to our resources. Are you falling in love with Parker yet? Parker is one of our Extra Loved residents. Although all of our resident animals get plenty of love, many of them come from backgrounds where they may need a little extra care, extra attention and extra patience. To help Parker find his adoptive home, a generous donor has sponsored his adoption donation to help him feel extra loved.
