Story
Gracie is an 8-year-old blue merle Australian Shepherd that is up for an adventure or some down time with her people. Her family situation has changed and her people just can’t give her the time and attention she needs. They are looking out for her best interests by helping her get into a home that will be best for her. When the family had more free time, they regularly hiked with her and she loved that. Gracie loves hiking, swimming, paddle boarding—really anything that gets her outside. She’s been more idle lately and that’s been hard for her. The ideal setting for her is in a home with person or people without young kids, or other pets. She really just wants to be the apple of your eye. She would love land to run, but can also do well with a fenced in yard and regular exercise. Her biggest desire is simply to be with her people. It doesn’t take much for her to claim someone as a friend—if she’s met you once, she’ll be over the moon to see you again. At home, she’s usually very calm and happy to follow the house rules. Gracie can be a little timid when it comes to new things. Shes not much of a barker, either. Though Gracie is young at heart and still very agile, she has a few bumps that have been medically found to be benign fatty lumps. Nothing of concern. Very typical. Gracie is an amazing dog who’ll keep you laughing with her reactions and expressive little face, and she’d love to join you for daily walks, hikes or adventures. Gracie is spayed, up to date on vaccines and is working on getting a microchip. She is being fostered in Redmond, OR. Her adoption fee is $300. Story
Hi, I’m Pete. For MY sake, consider adopting me! I am a ten-year old, male border collie mix. I LOVE life and am a very fun loving and loyal dog, and I absolutely LOVE to be with my people. While I do love humans, it can take me a little while to trust new people even though I really, really want to be everybody’s BFF eventually. So my new owner will have to give me the time and space to make introductions and to not rush me. Busy, hectic environments like the shelter, police stations, or veterinary offices make me a little bit defensive but when approached with respect to my privacy I am a good boy and deal with it well. I love car rides and being out in the countryside . In spite of my age I am a high energy dog but will settle down in the house. I am smart too. I have a decent recall, am house trained and crate trained, I ride well in the car, I like cats, and I like dogs that are not overly dominant or too wild. I would be an awesome only dog but I would be okay with another friendly dog in the family also. I am not a good fit for small children, horses, or cattle. I am not a ball or toy playing dog, but if you want a super snuggly border collie, I am the dog for you! One thing to note is before I was picked up and taken to the shelter, I was a stray dog that ran and ran and hurt my paw pads. They are tender and scarred in places. So my adopter has to be mindful of keeping me off of jagged, rocky, or hot surfaces. And keeping me from running too far at one time. I’m okay with the pasture and even dirt as long as it doesn't have sharp rocks. Pete is presently being fostered in Southeastern Oregon. He is neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. He has also just had a full dental cleaning! DNA testing has been sent with results still forthcoming. Pete’s adoption fee is $300. Story
Annie, a nearly 6-month-old red heeler or red heeler mix, presently weighing in at 33 pounds. She came from a home with small children whom she absolutely adored. She is somewhat less trusting of adults but at the same time feels like she needs to be close enough to them for safety. She does have a little separation anxiety but is getting much better with that. She is OK on leash but is very shy when you put it on her. Her recall off leash is decent although sometimes not immediate, but if you turn to leave she is right there by you because she is afraid of being left behind. She just needs some time and love to build confidence. She is good in her crate for feeding time and sleeping. She has no trouble sleeping through the night and potty training is going very well with and without a doggy door. She will bark at new dogs and needs to be introduced slowly, but once she knows they don't mean to hurt her she loves to play with them. She is currently living with dogs ranging in size from 6 pounds to 80 pounds and gets along with all of them. She is gaining some comfort around horses and cattle but doesn't want to be close. She is fine with dog savvy cats. Apparently, she likes to put her foot on them and push them down (maybe she thinks they are supposed to be squeaky toys? - 😊). If they run, she would likely chase but not hurt them. Will Annie be your perfect family dog? Annie is presently being fostered in Southeastern Oregon. She is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. DNA testing has been sent with results still forth coming. Annie’s adoption fee is $400. If you are interested in adopting Annie and are pre-approved, please contact the adoption team at hunahapps@gmail.com. Story
This 5-month-old red and white beauty is Nutmeg! She currently weighs a svelte 28 lbs. She could stand a bit more meat on her bones, but currently, eating is less important to her than taking care of all the other exciting things in her life. Nutmeg is your typical sensitive, yet high drive Border Collie. She came into foster very timid but has made great progress on that front and enjoys cuddles. On the high drive end, she is a busy pup in constant motion and will herd anything that moves – other dogs, the cat (but has learned to be respectful of the fosters’ dog savvy cat), horses, etc. Nutmeg will need someone who will continue her training to make her into the best dog possible. Her ideal adopter(s) will be very active and outdoorsy. Nutmeg’s energy needs will not be satisfied with hanging out in the backyard all day and twice a day leash walks around the neighborhood. She would likely turn to destructive behaviors out of boredom. Because of her high drive herding tendency, Nutmeg should not be placed in a home with livestock unless her adopters are very experienced with how to train and channel this energy. Her strong herding tendency also would not make her a great candidate for a home with young children. Nutmeg is mostly potty trained and likes her crate at night, but she’ll sleep with you too if that is an option! Nutmeg will alert bark, such as when guests or the UPS man arrives, but is not much of a barker. Nutmeg is presently being fostered in Bend, Oregon. She is up to date on her vaccinations and has been wormed and microchipped. Nutmeg’s adoption fee is $400. If you are interested in adopting Nutmeg and are pre-approved, please contact the adoption team at hunahapps@gmail.com. Story
Meet Echo Meet Echo! This 7-month-old pup is as smart as they come and looking for the perfect home to match her energy and intelligence. She thrives with an experienced handler who can provide structure, clear boundaries, and plenty of mental and physical stimulation. Echo is highly food- and toy-motivated, with strong obedience skills and a handler-oriented personality. She’s dog-neutral, not cat-friendly, and would do best in a home without young kids—though dog-savvy kids (10+) who understand working breeds may be okay. Echo is crate trained, potty trained with bells, and very clear with her body language. She does have some food-guarding tendencies, so continued training and management will be important. Echo needs an active home where she can channel her energy productively, but when the time is right (morning or evening), she’s happy to soak up affection. If you’re looking for a bright, driven companion and can offer the structured home she needs, Echo might just be your perfect match! Story
Sweet Jade needed out of a bad situation fast. Thankfully a few of our fantastic fosters stepped up to give her a soft landing spot. And look at the smile she has rewarded us with!!!! It will melt your heart. ❤️ Jade is 1.5-2 years old and full of love. She is playful, medium energy, more on the submissive side, and she LOVES people! She also loves playing with other dogs, and hasn’t shown any food or treat agression. She has learned about a dog door and mastered it quickly. She likes playing in the doggy pool and romping around in the yard with her dog friends. She needs some work on boundaries … mainly jumping up on people and crowding the front door. The perfect home for her will have plenty of room to run and a similar medium energy dog to run, play and wrestle with. She is a little too interested in chickens, so a home without or with them securely confined would be best. Jade is sleeping in a crate beautifully, but her foster may try letting her sleep unsecured tonight. She has had zero accidents in the house and loves to curl up on the couch. We know that loud sounds currently bother her, mainly the chainsaw and propane torch. She just went in the house to hide away from those sounds. She has been spayed, and we got her current on vaccinations and a microchip. She is being fostered in Bend, and we will be considering applications carefully to find her the perfect landing in a love filled forever home. Her adoption fee is $400. If you are interested in meeting this sweet love, please fill out an application at http://herduneededahome.com/adoption-process/ or email us with questions at hunahapps@gmail.com.
