Story
Meet Niko, a six-year-old Standard Poodle whose world has always revolved around his people. When his prior family reached out to SPIN, it wasn’t because they didn’t love him — in fact, it was quite the opposite. Life changes meant they could no longer give him the structure, time, and one-on-one attention he thrives on. They wanted to set him up for success, and that meant finding a home that could truly match his energy, his intelligence, and his big, loyal heart. Niko arrived in foster care with the sweetness, house manners, and affectionate nature he’d always had — and he’s been blossoming with the predictability, routine, and kindness of his foster home. He’s a fun, bouncy, endlessly curious boy who loves fetch, outdoor adventures, and staying close to “his” person. He isn’t the laid-back golden-retriever type; Niko is a sensitive, intuitive poodle who notices everything, learns quickly, and thrives when his world makes sense.

Story
We recently adopted Buddy just over 1.5yrs ago from the Clarington shelter. He was brought in as a stray so unfortunately we have no idea what he truly went through. Buddy is a very sweet, loving and caring dog. He is extremely affectionate, loves his treats and loves to cuddle. He is also a very anxious dog which unfortunately comes off as reactivity. In the time that weve had him, he did bite once. We briefly tried behavioural training but unfortunately we did not make much progress as we weret able to devote enough time for Buddy due to our work schedules. Although he is a much different dog now than he was 1.5 years ago, its unfortunately not something we can keep up with in our family. He really has made tremendous progress these last 18 months. Is gotten to the point where we feel like weve done all we can but he just needs more. He needs a good, healthy and calm environment. He needs someone who has more experience with dogs with behavioural issues and consistency.

Story
Thank you for your interest in Mozart. Some dogs get every opportunity. Mozart is not one of them. Despite his sweetness, loyalty, and gentle nature, life has handed this beautiful Standard Poodle the short end of the stick far too many times. He has been owned, surrendered, adopted, returned, adopted again, returned again, transferred to SPIN, moved between fosters, adopted once more — and then returned yet again. Each time, Mozart tried. Each time, he bonded. And each time, humans let him down. When a Quebec shelter reached out for help after his second return, we knew we had to step in. Beneath his stress and confusion, there was a wonderful dog whose emotional needs simply weren’t being met. Once in our care, we discovered he was a purebred Standard Poodle with a heart bigger than his struggles — and a history that finally needed to change. Today, Mozart has been with dedicated, experienced fosters for two months. He is decompressing, learning, and showing us exactly who he is when he feels safe and understood.

Meet VIOLETVIOLET / AGE: 9 yrs / FEMALE / BREED: GERMAN SHEPHERD and HUSKY MIX / WEIGHT: 90lbs (41kgs) / Currently fostered in WARKWORTH, ONGood with other dogs, older children and farm animals (cows and horses)NO Cats pleaseHouse trainedMajor medical concerns: NoneMeet Violet, a gentle soul with a quiet charm that’s impossible to resist. At around nine years young, Violet is gracefully stepping into her golden years and searching for a peaceful retirement home where she can be cherished as much as she’ll cherish you.Unlike most dogs, Violet doesn’t bark — she speaks. Her soft vocalizations are reserved for special moments, like mealtime, which she absolutely adores. She’s had two TPLO surgeries, so she prefers short, leisurely walks, but that doesn’t stop her from playing with her favourite squeaky toys in the yard. Her playful spirit still shines through, especially when she’s surrounded by the things she loves: treats, food, and squeaky balls.Violet is wonderfully social and carries herself with the grace of a seasoned hostess. Off-leash, she’s Miss Congeniality, getting along beautifully with other dogs and greeting people with friendly curiosity. Her personality is a lovely blend of curiosity, intelligence, and quiet affection. She’s also impeccably clean and fully house-trained, making her an easy and delightful companion. Her ideal home would be in a quiet rural or suburban setting — she’s comfortable around cows and horses, but cats and city life aren’t her cup of tea. A secure, fully fenced yard would give her the outdoor space she’s used to, and she’d love to share her days with another calm, balanced dog. Violet thrives in a mature household, preferably without young children, though older teens are just fine. She would be happiest with someone who works from home or is retired, someone who has time to share with her and is looking for a loyal companion to walk through life together. If you’re looking for a sweet, soulful friend who will fill your home with love and gentle companionship, apply to meet Violet at www.caninehaven.org/dog-application. She is waiting patiently to meet you!Spayed / Microchipped / Vaccinations up to date**PLEASE FILL OUT OUR ADOPTION APPLICATION TO BE CONSIDERED -https://caninehaven.org/dog-application/*

Story
TRAVIS / Male / 4 years old / Mixed Breed / 50lbs / Rescued from Hamilton Animal Services / Fostered in TorontoGood with well-balanced dogs / Untested with cats / Older kids only / House and crate trainedTravis is a 4-year-old, medium-sized bundle of energy and enthusiasm who’s ready to leap into his next chapter, with you of course! Travis is a confident, curious, and playful guy who loves trying new things - whether it’s agility, hiking, fetch, or any dog sport you can think of, Travis is all in, even if he’s not a pro at first. What he lacks in polish, he makes up for with heart and determination, and will keep you laughing and smiling all day long. This athletic pup thrives on adventure and would make an amazing partner for someone who enjoys staying active and having fun with their dog. With his higher energy, Travis does best with daily walks, play sessions, and training games to help keep him engaged. The good news? He’s fabulous on walks, especially with his head halter, and loves exploring the world around him.Travis is crate trained, house trained, and can be left alone for stretches of time. He’s mouthy and still learning his manners, but he’s eager to please and enjoys practicing new skills. When meeting new people, he’s excited and friendly (sometimes with a little too much enthusiasm!), but his happy energy makes him a joy to be around. Due to some jumping and mouthy behaviour, he would do best in a home without small kids. Social by nature, Travis loves other dogs, but he can be a bit much at first—think overexcited puppy energy in a grown-up body. Because of this, he’d do best with a confident handler who can help him continue working on polite greetings. Travis could live with another dog, but it would need to be the right fit—ideally a well-balanced dog who’s okay with slow introductions and can match his energy without being overwhelmed. Travis would do well in almost any living environment - apartment, house, or busy neighborhood—as long as he gets enough exercise and structure to keep him happy. With the right balance of activity, patience, and love, Travis will be the ultimate loyal and fun-loving companion. This sweet boy is ready to make you his whole world! Story
?BEAR / 10 yrs / Male / Yellow Labrador Retriever and Golden Retriever mix? / 60 lbs (27 kgs) / Currently fostered in Roseneath, ONMajor medical concerns: gastric ulcer - he thrives best in a calm, low-stress environmentMeet Bear, a wise and wonderful 10-year-old Yellow Labrador Retriever and Golden Retriever mix from Roseneath, ON, whose golden spirit is as warm and comforting as a sunny afternoon nap. Weighing in at about 60 pounds, Bear is the kind of dog who’s mastered the art of living gently—he’s quiet, clever, and always ready for a peaceful stroll or a cozy cuddle with his favorite toy.Bear’s gentle nature and calm demeanor are perfect companions for someone who appreciates life’s quieter moments. He’s house and crate trained, walks like a dream on leash, and responds beautifully to positive reinforcement. With excellent recall and zero interest in resource guarding, Bear is the kind of trustworthy buddy you’ll never have to second-guess.Bear does have a gastric ulcer, so he thrives best in a calm, low-stress environment. His ideal day? A relaxing walk in nature, a bit of playtime with his favorite toy, a tasty meal followed by classical or country tunes (his two favorite genres), and a long, satisfying nap in a comfy bed. He enjoys meeting other dogs on walks but would prefer to be the only dog in the home so he can fully enjoy his golden years in peace. While he’s friendly with people one-on-one, Bear is not one for crowds or hustle and bustle. He’s hoping to find a home with a dog-experienced, gentle-hearted person who can offer clear rules, consistency, and lots of outdoor adventures. A rural or suburban setting with green space and a fully fenced yard would be his paradise.Bear doesn’t need chaos—just someone who values calm companionship, loves outdoor time, and believes that joy can come from the simple things: a quiet walk, a kind word, and a soft place to rest.Could your peaceful home be the one where Bear can continue to shine?Neutered / Microchipped / Vaccinations up to date**PLEASE FILL OUT OUR ADOPTION APPLICATION TO BE CONSIDERED - https://caninehaven.org/dog-application/*
