Story
FELICE - Lab-Mix / 10 years / 20kg / F-Spayed Beautiful Felice turns 10 in January and we hope to start her year off on the right foot! After being with the same family for the past 6 years, she finds herself ready for a new beginning! She has gone to bootcamp, and girl has been rocking it since day 1! She knows a lot of "rules" already and benefits from consistency. If you say place, she may give you a look that says "do you mean it" and if you simply give her a "yup" she will trot off to settle. She has been a bit confused by her role of "dog", but is catching on quickly to understand her place in the family. Her play style with other dogs is a smidge wonky, as if she hasn't learned to play. Her new canine buddy Michael is working with her on chase, sharing and having fun together. (She loves it!) She is great with dogs, but has the confidence to be a solo dog in the home. She is good with kids too and had some wee humans in her past home. If you think you could be Felice’s forever, check out the adoption process and application at www.dibsrescue.com. Her adoption fee is $500. If you are a family with kids, please check out our resources on kids and dogs before you apply (https://dibsrescue.com/kids-dogs/).

Story
Capuchina is available for Foster to Adopt! ***Please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form*** As a foster-to-adopt family, you will have two weeks to get to know your new furry house guest before committing to adoption. At the end of two weeks, if you choose not to move forward with adoption, we simply ask that you continue to provide a safe and loving home until their new forever family can be found. During your foster-to-adopt trial, you’ll receive the support of a Fetch + Releash mentor to help you through the transition and answer any questions or concerns you may have. Foster-to-adopt families will be required to pay a $200 deposit on the adoption fee and sign our foster-to-adopt waiver in advance. If you choose not to adopt, your $200 will be refunded to you within 30 days of your dog being adopted into a new family provided you see your pup through to adoption. If you choose not to see your dog through to adoption, you will forfeit your deposit. Foster-to-adopt families will be expected to provide their own supplies. Visit https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info for more info on mandatory supplies. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Capuchina / F / 7Y / 35lbs / Mixed Breed / Medium energy / Dog selective / No cats please / Kids 14+/ From Mexico / Fostered in Warkworth Meet Capuchina! Capuchina's foster describes her as energetic and affectionate. Capuchina came into our care after being abandoned in a house with no food or water. After this heartbreaking chapter in her life, Capuchina is ready to start fresh with her very special forever family. She loves bell rubs and massages and will approach her fosters to ask for cuddles. Capuchina loves playing with humans and dogs who have gained her trust. She enjoys walkies, fetch and, of course, treats! Her fosters say that she is wonderfully goofy and expressive. When asked to shake a paw, Capuchina is sure to do so with dramatic gusto that will put a smile on anyone's face. With people she knows and trusts, Capuchina will be your little shadow. She will approach you with a little reindeer prance to show her happiness. If you are patient enough for her to come out of her shell, Capuchina will reward you with unwavering love and adoration. Given her past, Capuchina is understandably wary of unfamiliar people. She has been making great improvements with meeting new people though. Her fosters describe her as apprehensive but curious and friendly whenever she meets someone new. Capuchina can play a bit rough with children so her perfect family would be one without any young kids. It is also important that all members of the family respect Capuchina's feelings and give her space and time to adjust as needed. Capuchina's ideal forever home would be in a rural or suburban setting with a balanced resident dog to help her settle in and feel more comfortable. Her forever family should be familiar and dedicated to positive reinforcement training and be patient and understanding of her decompression period and nervousness. Capuchina is currently doing very well on a raw diet and her forever family would ideally be willing to continue this diet with her or at least be committed to feeding high-quality kibble like Acana or Orijen. Capuchina would do best in a home where she is not left alone for long periods, where she can get lots of mental enrichment and physical exercise. Her foster thinks she would do wonderfully in agility sports! Capuchina has not lived with a cat while in care but has previously shown some prey drive. While she may eventually be able to share her home with a dog-savvy kitty companion, at this time we ask that she go to a cat-free home. In the past, Capuchina has been reactive to other dogs who are high-energy. She is currently doing wonderfully in her foster home and loves playing with specific canine companions. Capuchina will need an experienced forever home that will continue to work with her interactions with other dogs. We think she would do best with another well balanced dog in the home. Capuchina's foster describes her as a high-energy dog. She spends her days going for walks, playing fetch, hide and seek and running around with her selected doggy friends. She is currently focusing on impulse control exercises as a form of mental stimulation. Capuchina has made great improvements with walking on a leash. She can get excited by squirrels and pull at times, but she no longer reacts to normal traffic or people. Capuchina is house-trained and crate-trained. She is crated for a short period each day and she takes about two minutes to settle in. Capuchina does not show any destructive tendencies but she may find something to get into that she shouldn't. For this reason, she should be crated when her people are not home until they can build trust and boundaries with her. Capuchina spends the night in her crate and she sleeps soundly throughout the night. Capuchina is fine being left in her crate but she always has her doggy friends in the same room with her; a resident dog may help her to settle faster in her new home. Capuchina has mastered many basic obedience commands and loves her training sessions since she is very food-motivated. Capuchina is great at traveling in the car! Capuchina has mild enamel hypoplasia, which is thinning of the enamel on her teeth. Home care (brushing) will help but she may require professional dental cleaning in the future. She should avoid hard chews, toys, and treats as her teeth will be more prone to breaking during play. Capuchina is currently on 5mg of Melatonin to naturally assist with some anxiety, which she has been doing very well on and should continue this supplement. Due to Capuchina's unique circumstances, prospective adopters must commit to attending training sessions with her post-adoption with a certified R+ dog trainer to ensure a successful transition. If you’re interested in fostering with the intention of adopting, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Capuchina’s adoption fee is sponsored by Fetch + Releash as long as her future family is willing to attend training sessions with her to help set her up for success. Story
Duncan / Male / Approx. 4 Years / 66 lbs / Beagle x Bulldog / Good with Dogs / Good with Older Kids / Untested with Cats / From Tennessee / Fostered in Toronto **Follow Duncan on Instagram: @duncanintoronto Meet Duncan! Duncan's foster describes him as warm, loving, playful, and disciplined. Duncan came to us from Tennessee where he was rescued from a shelter. Much of his past is unknown but his future is bright! Duncan has an infectious smile that grabs the attention of everyone he meets, and will literally stop people in their tracks. He loves going for walks, running at the park, and playing with both toys and other dogs. Duncan is friendly with everyone and always happy to see new people. He stops to say hi to new people on walks. Sometimes he gets too excited and jumps up-he sometimes forgets his size but he’s working on it. He can adapt to any living environment, he’s currently living downtown in a condo and is doing very well. He would prefer a family who has at least one person home often. He does well on his own but definitely prefers company. Of course, having his very own yard to run and play would be great!! As Duncan loves to play with other dogs, he would love the company of a dog sibling. His exuberance can sometimes be overwhelming for smaller or older dogs, however a proper meet and greet will determine compatibility. He has not yet been tested with cats. His energy level is medium high and he sure loves his walks. He currently gets 3 walks a day around 30-45 minutes along with play time, and training. He pulls a lot on the leash and his foster ends up running with him sometimes, which he loves! Duncan is potty trained and does not have accidents in the house. He is currently working on basic obedience and will need a family who is willing to dedicate time to continuing his training. The main area he will need continued work is with leash skills, and learning not to jump up. When his fosters leave the house he is left free reign. Most of the time he chooses to go into his crate and calmly awaits their return. He’s very well behaved when left alone and has never caused any problems. His foster says he is the most discipled dog she’s met! One fun thing about Duncan is that he loves car rides. He is happy to stick his face out the window and puts on his big goofy grin as he enjoys the wind on his face. If you’re interested in adopting Duncan, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Duncan’s adoption fee is $850. Lexi is a sweet and special dog who is waiting for a forever home to call her own. She is curious, loving, enjoys little toys and all the cuddles from her trusted people. Lexi is much smaller than her photos make her look and is the perfect size for a calm cuddle on the couch. Lexi is described by her fosters as a relaxed girl who enjoys cuddles, toys and treats. She can be very shy at first and takes time to assess her surroundings, but once she is comfortable her loving personality shines! Lexi loves to play fetch, run outside and snuggle up for a good belly rub. With patience and time, Lexi will show you what a wonderful companion she is. With people she knows, Lexi is relaxed and always ready to soak up some love and attention. When meeting new people, Lexi will need time to warm up. She uses her crate as a safe space and needs support to learn it is safe to come out and get to know new people. Lexi has not met children yet, but given her calm nature we think she could live with older, respectful kids who understand her boundaries. Lexi is looking for a family with a home in a quiet area as loud city noises and busy streets make her nervous. A backyard in a quiet area would be great for Lexi to build her confidence outdoors. Lexi has recently started to venture into the world and with nicer weather, it’s the perfect time for her family to continue with this great progress. Lexi needs motivation and support from her humans, and sometimes a lift to get out of the door. Lexi is dog-social and would benefit from a canine sibling to help build her confidence and provide companionship. She could be a solo pet as long as she is provided opportunities to socialize. Lexi has not met cats but would likely be ok with proper introductions as she is passive in nature. As a nervous girl, Lexi is still learning that the outside world can be safe and fun. She is gradually learning to walk on leash, but will require support in this area. Lexi is very food-motivated, which makes her the perfect candidate for training. She loves to get her zoomies out in the yard, and is slowly gaining confidence to enjoy walks in quiet neighbourhoods, or parks. Lexi is a homebody and is on her best behaviour indoors. She is fully potty-trained and crate-trained. She can be left alone and is not destructive. She settles in her crate easily, as long as the crate is in a quiet part of the house away from windows and doors. Lexi is learning more commands over time. Her love of treats makes training a breeze! Lexi is a flight risk and our top priority in her furever home is safety. Her forever family must take precautions to keep her safe and secure, including the purchase of a GPS tracker, which will be required for adoption. Do you have a quiet, calm home and want a cuddly homebody? Lexi is your girl! If you’re interested in fostering with the intention of adopting Lexi, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Lexi’s adoption fee is $250. Story
King Tutt / Male / 2 years / 66 lbs / Mastiff Mix / Good with Dogs / No Cats Please / Good with Children / From Tennessee / Fostered in Toronto ** Follow King Tutt’s journey on Instagram @tk_fetchfosters Meet King Tutt! This beautiful brindle boy came to us from Tennessee where he, his brother and dad were left without a home. Despite his difficult past, King Tutt is full of charm and is sure to win over everyone he meets. King Tutt’s foster’s describe him as loyal, loving and playful. He loves to make new friends, whether human or canine. Being with his people is important to him, whether it is out on an adventure, playing at home, or lounging on the couch. King Tutt can be a silly guy, who enjoys exploring, playing with toys, swimming, and running in the yard. He will make a great addition to an active family. King Tutt is a social butterfly, who loves to meet new people, and soak up attention from those he already knows. He has shown no hesitation, and will greet people with excitement, ready for scritches and cuddles. King Tutt has met older children and done well. He sees them as more humans to give him love and attention and will soak it all up. He can get excited and jump, so interactions should be monitored. Although he has not met young children, given his demeanor we think he would do well with respectful, dog-savvy children. King Tutt is very adaptable and is happy to be where his people are. Given this he would do well in any living environment, so long as he has access to greenspace. A home with a yard would be amazing, as he loves to run and play, but if given sufficient exercise he will be good. He really does love to explore and play outdoors, so an active family that shares his love of nature would be perfect. Playing with other dogs is one of King Tutt’s favourite activities. He currently lives with another dog and enjoys his company. King Tutt would do well solo as well, he would just need opportunities to socialize and play with other dogs. King Tutt has not met cats yet, so we are looking for a cat-free home at this time. King Tutt is a busy guy, who needs both physical and mental activities each day. He is gradually learning his leash manners, and enjoys the time outside to sniff. He has shown no signs of reactivity, or fear with other people/dogs, or city sounds. He can pull when he gets excited, so his new family should be prepared to continue working with him with his leash manners. At home King Tutt is learning his house manners with ease. He is house-trained, crate-trained and working on his commands. He has not been given free reign of the house if he is alone yet, as he is curious and may counter surf. King Tutt is not overly food motivated, but he loves to make his humans proud, so training is lots of fun! Prior to coming into care, King Tutt tested positive for Ehrlichia which is a tick-borne infection and is not contagious. A CBC was performed to see if there is an active infection. King Tutt 's CBC came back indicating that there is no active infection however it is recommended that Ehrlichia positive dogs get an annual blood test to monitor and that pre-op blood work including a CBC test and platelet count be performed before any surgeries or dental extractions. King Tutt also has mild enamel hypoplasia which is thinning of the enamel on his teeth. Homecare will help with brushing but he may require professional dental cleaning in the future. He should avoid hard chews, toys, and treats as his teeth will be more prone to breaking during play. Story
Yara / F / 3Y / 33 lbs / Egyptian Baladi Mix / Needs slow introductions with dogs / No children please / No cats please / From Egypt / Fostered in Toronto Follow Yara’s journey on Instagram @yaragirlpup Meet Yara! Yara was rescued after being dumped in a scrapyard in Egypt when she was just a few months old. She was nursed back to health and has since made the big trip to Canada. Yara's fosters describe her as a completely loveable little lady. She is gentle, polite, and affectionate. She can be a bit shy to start out but once she knows you, it is love and pets all day long. She will bring her head to your hand and just rest there. With people she knows, Yara is friendly and prefers to be nearby where she can soak up attention when she wants, or just be close to her pack. Yara can be hesitant, and sometimes vocal, when meeting new people so slow introductions are crucial. She needs time to observe and feel safe in new surroundings and with new people. Yara has had mixed experiences with children in the past, so we are recommending a child-free home at this time. The ideal home for Yara would be with a family that will include her in daily activities and advocate for her when out. A home in a quieter neighbourhood would be best as Yara is nervous of loud noises and busy streets. A yard where she can explore and lounge would be a bonus as she loves to be outside. Access to greenspace will be a necessity for Yara. Yara is a true sweetheart, who likes to take things slow. She is ready for a patient family who is willing to help her feel safe and loved. Yara needs proper, slow introductions with other dogs. She can be reactive with dogs on the street, especially if they are bigger than her. That being said, Yara has lived with other dogs in the past and done well. She enjoyed going for walks together and having their company in the house. Yara prefers the company of a calm, smaller dog. Yara has lived with cats in the past, but does have a high prey drive, so a cat-free home would be best. Yara absolutely loves being outdoors and enjoys walks, especially ones involving nature trails. Exploring new smells and places is one of her favourite things to do. She also loves to climb up on walls, or logs, as she explores. Yara thoroughly enjoys walks and is making good progress with loose leash training. That said, she will pull if she sees squirrels or birds and can be reactive in busy environments. A quiet neighbourhood street is her dream ‘go for a walk’ scenario. Yara is wonderful within the house. She has great manners and does well when left alone. She was crate-trained in the past, but shows no signs of anxiety or destructive behaviours so she is able to free roam. Yara tends not to use her crate in the house but does enjoy having it when she goes for car rides. Yara is not super food-motivated, but you can win her over with chicken and cheese. She already knows her basic commands and is house-trained. She enjoys playing with a snuffle-mat after she has finished dinner. If you’re interested in adopting Yara, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Yara’s adoption fee is $850.
