Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.ROUGE is one of the “Fab Four” we saved from being euthanized at the Pound. The only reason that was going to happen to her was because they needed the space to bring in more unwanted or dumped dogs. She’s spayed, microchipped and was just vaccinated including rabies with her annual ones for this year. She is a beautiful girl with lots of energy and she’s looking for an experienced Shepherd owner.  ROUGE has both beauty and brains and is a very smart, loving girl who loves attention. Her favourite place to be is right beside you on the couch so she can get snuggles and belly rubs. She does need lots of exercise to help burn off that young dog energy so she’s definitely looking for an active family who can give her the exercise she desires, take her on trail hikes and lots of adventures. She travels well in a vehicle and gets excited when she knows she’s going in it as it usually leads to a nice long walk in the woods for her. She loves to play fetch and when you throw the ball for her, she’ll chase after it and retrieve it back to you and drop it out your feet. A fenced-in yard is required for her as she loves to run around in one and chase out the birds, squirrels, chipmunks and well, let’s just say any creature that dares to land in her yard. She does need a fenced-in yard as she does love to run around and play outside. She hasn’t met a cat but we’re advising no cats in the home as she’s never met one and also due to her high prey drive. She has a dog savvy 6yr old child in her foster home and they get along great and the young boy will play fetch with her and walk her around on her leash. She takes it all in her stride and just follows behind him just like his little shadow. She’ll do great with children in her new home as long as they’re calm, loving and considerate to animals. ROUGE is crate trained and will sleep soundly in it at night. She’ll also go in it during the day and nap while left alone. She’s housetrained and will let you know when she needs to go outside for a bathroom break. She’s a very social girl and loves to chase and run around with the other 2 dogs in her foster home, they’re a female dog around her size and a small male Chihuahua. They’re both calm and that’s the type of dog that would suit her best in her new home. Saying that though she would do equally as well as an only dog too. She’s regularly taken to the off-leach dog park and does extremely well there with the other dogs. A video had been added to show just how well she does there.   ROUGE recently completed a 3-week board and train programme at Sunnidale Kennels in Angus. She did amazing there and the biggest improvement was her leash walking skills. She’s always been good on her leash mind but would just get reactive when she saw another dog, especially if it was an energetic dog like her. She’ll now walk calmly by those other dogs and is rewarded with a couple of treats each time for being a good girl. Sunnidale is offering some free sessions with a trainer for Rouge and her new owner. This is so they can fully understand the commands she knows and the best way for them to communicate with her. She was also trained on an e-collar and she responds very well go it. We have a full assessment report on her behaviour and training at the kennel to share with her adoptive family. She had really good manners and fits quietly for her dinner and loves it when there’s berries, carrots or other tasty vegetables topping it.  ROUGE is a very special girl who has been in care since she was just a pup of 5 months old. What she endured in those first few months of her life we’ll never know but we do know it wasn’t good. She has now been with us in foster care for over a year and we’re really not sure why no one has come forward to adopt her. ROUGE sadly does have a couple of bite incidents that happened at her foster home but her foster says she completely blames herself for the incidents and feels they could’ve been avoided. Both these incidents happened early on when she first came into her foster home and that was about 8 months ago and nothing at all has happened since.  If you’re interested in meeting the loveable ROUGE then please put in an application to meet her. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 4, 2024, 1:30 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.MOLASSES hails from Moose Lake in Northern Manitoba and came down south to find her forever family. She’s spayed, vaccinated including rabies and microchipped. We have no knowledge of her parents so the breeds we have her listed as are merely a guess based on the breeds she looks like. She’s just the sweetest little lady and she loves to cuddle up with you and will try and sit on your lap too. She’s pretty laid back and has a low energy level so would definitely suit a quiet home with a retired couple or one with someone who works from home.  MOLASSES is house trained and also crate trained and will sleep in her crate all night without a peep. She was originally fostered with an older cat who would just lay around or sit in his chair and she really took no notice of him. However she then went to another home and seemed to have a prey drive for the cat who lived there. So it’s hard to say whether or not she would get along with the next cat she meets and at this point in time, we’re not recommending she be with one even if they’re dog savvy. She’s really good with other dogs but she doesn’t appreciate rude dogs who’ll get into het face and bark at her as she’ll just bark right back. We are only letting her be adopted to an adults only home and one that doesn’t have children coming to visit. A fenced yard would be great for her as she does enjoy being outside.  A little bit of background history on MOLASSES: she was in her Northern community when one of the networks we work with had volunteers there to do a spay/neuter/Clinic and fell in love with the wonderful nature she has. She needed to have a spay but no one came forward to claim her afterwards so they decided she was too great of a dog to leave behind so brought her back with them. They then posted her for a rescue to take and this rescue stepped up to take her in. That little tidbit is important to point out on how they felt about her and it’s relevant to this next part about her. Molasses was adopted out into a home for 9 months with young teenagers in it and there ended up being an incident and we now have to say she has a bite history. We’re a full disclosure rescue and this incident will be discussed in full with a potential adopter. It should be noted that as soon as we received her back into the rescue she went straight to a board and train programme for 4 weeks with a Behaviourist/trainer for a full assessment and she wrote up a very detailed report on her and it is also available to a potential adopter.  It is important that the adopter of MOLASSES be prepared to take her for basic training as it not only benefits her but will help to form a bond between her and her new owner. If you feel MOLASSES would be suitable for your home and lifestyle plus you have somewhat of an understanding about her then please fill out an application to meet her. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 4, 2024, 1:30 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.CRANBERRY hails from the Northern community of Poplar Hill and cane south with her brother (Blueberry) to find her loving family. She’s  had 2 sets of puppy vaccines, a microchip and been deemed a healthy girl by her vet. We have no information on her parents so the breeds we have her listed as is just a guess based on what she looks like. She has some small breed mixed in there too and we’re leaning towards a JRT due to her small stature. This little girl is super friendly, loveable and very snuggly.   CRANBERRY’s crate trained and sleeps quietly in it at night and will also take naps in there during the day. She loves to go on walks and enjoys being outside and playing in the grass. She’s in a foster home with kittens and loves to play with them and chase them around. She would suit a home with another dog and a cat in it due to her exposure with both. She loves to play with all sorts of toys and really likes to play with the many stuffies she has. She’ll run around and play and then just walk over to her dog bed and crash for a nap and sometimes she’s been spotted snuggling up to the kittens in her dog bed too.  CRANBERRY would love a family who’s active and will take her on the walks she loves and even get her out on the hiking trails. She travels well in a vehicle and she’s always up and ready to be taken on an adventure or two. She loves people and will follow her foster around wherever she goes so she’d love to have someone home with her for most of the day. She requires a fenced in yard to keep her safe and children should be 6 plus and be loving, caring and gentle with animals. It should be noted that just because she’s small now it’s no guarantee that she’ll be a small breed dog and the expectation on her growth should be for a medium sized dog of around 45-50lbs.  Puppies are fun, cute and playful but they also require a lot of work and dedication to training. We need her adopter to be committed to signing her up for obedience/puppy training in order to adopt her.  Her spay is included in her adoption fee and has to be performed by the time she’s 6 months of age and we need her adopter to also be in agreement with that in order to adopt her. The adopter can opt to get her spayed at their own vet and we’ll reimburse what we would’ve paid for it to be performed at the SPCA. In order for that to happen though the same age for the spay applies.  If you would like to meet CRANBERRY then please submit an adoption application to do so. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 6, 2024, 5:15 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.BLISSFUL came into rescue from a backyard breeder along with her sisters (Grateful and Thankful. She’s had her first and second vaccines, a microchip and been deemed a healthy girl by her vet and ready to find her loving family. We were told her parents are Collie/Mastiff mixes of around 55-69lbs but it’s just a guess on the weight she’ll grow to be. This loveable, happy girl loves people and gets very excited when she meets new people and especially so with people she already knows.  BLISSFUL is crate trained and sleeps soundly in it at night and will also nap in it quietly during the day. She loves to play with a variety of toys and especially likes the ones that squeak and roll around. Tug-of-war with a rope toy is one of her favourite things to do but of course she does likes to win. Housetraining is going very well and she hasn’t had an accident in the home              for a couple of weeks now but she is taken outside often. She’s quite food motivated and currently uses a slow feeder for her meals to help her slow down when she eats. We do recommend that she be fed in her crate if other dogs are in the home until she learns to slow down when eating. She loves her treats and has been easy to give basic training to due to her love of food.  BLISSFUL’s ideal family is an active one who will take her on lots of walks and hikes on the trails to help her burn iff that puppy energy.?She’s adventurous so would always be up for one especially seeing as she travels so well in a vehicle she would always be up for one. She’s fostered with a large dog and loves to play with him but when he’s had enough of her puppy antics he’ll let her know and she heeds his cues. She hasn’t met a cat but if they’re dog savvy and a slow, monitored introduction is done then they should get along okay. She requires a fenced-in yard as she loves to run around and play outside (under supervision) and it will also keep her safe.  Children should be aged 6 and up and be caring, gentle and loving towards animals. They also need to understand that puppies will chase, nibble on toes and generally be very playful. BLISSFUL’s spay is included in the adoption fee and as per our rescue agreement must be performed by the time she hits 6 months of age. If preferred, the adopter can use their own vet and we’ll reimburse what we would’ve paid for it if it was performed at the Barrie SPCA as we use them for our spay/neuters. We just need a copy of the invoice and a picture of the pet (preferably in a cone or onesie) to do so. We also need her adopter to be in agreement to sign her up for obedience/puppy training in order to adopt her.  If you’re interested in BLISSFUL and would like to meet her then please submit an adoption application to do so. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 18, 2024, 10:48 pm
