Story
Introducing sweet Jemi 3 yr female (spayed) mini poodle/bernese mountain dog mix, Jemi weighs 25 lbs with a long lean body type more similar to her poodle side of genetics Jemi would love to be matched with a young confident dog or as a single dog with someone who has lots of time to provide human companionship. Like many mill dogs she is nervous of men and will take time to feel safe with all family members. She must have a securely fenced in yard in her new home to meet her specific needs as a flight risk. She would like to live in a quiet or rural neighborhood. She would not do well in apartments or condos or in areas with lots of loud vehicle traffic. ENERGY LEVEL: medium DOG'S DAILY ROUTINE FOR EXERCISE, TRAINING ETC Jemi is a smart dog who likes to spend time with her people. She wants love and time to build a relationship through confidence building and positive experiences. She completed a training program for adolescent dogs at Mapleton Bark and showed a love of training, responding well to praise and treats. FOOD MOTIVATED? Jemi is food motivated, but she is also very sound sensitive which can keep her from taking treats. Jemi loves attention! She will push between her foster dog siblings and anyone willing to share love, so dogs in the home would need to not object to Jemi's attention seeking behaviour with their humans. On walks, Jemi shows interest in other dogs but is nervous of their owners and terrified of loud vehicles, so we are currently only walking her on trails. She is happy in a yard however, and loves to sniff and explore. She is generally indifferent of dogs when she meets them. Jemi is very nervous of people. She requires slow, gentle introductions and many positive experiences with the same person to feel truly comfortable. She prefers women over men and is very loving when she gets comfortable. Jemi will bark at new people coming into the home until she can sniff the person and get petted by them. She recently did very well with a houseful of people at Thanksgiving. She quietly lay in her crate chewing a bully stick as people arrived and when uncrated, she sniffed and snuggled. GOOD WITH CATS? Jemi generally ignores the cat in her foster home. She does not want to interact with it, but she will chase it in the yard if it runs by her. ANY GUARDING BEHAVIOURS As Jemi becomes more comfortable, she is guarding the house by barking at visitors HOUSETRAINED? Yes CRATE TRAINED? Jemi loves to relax in the crate. She goes into the crate willingly and feels comfortable in that space. Jemi is not able to be crated when people are not nearby. DOES YOUR FOSTER DOG SHOW SIGNS OF SEPARATION ANXIETY? She does well loose in the home, but she does not like to be crated when her people are away. This is a skill the foster is working on for short periods. LEASH SKILLS. Jemi can be very unsure in new environments and hesitant to leave the house if the street is busy or loud. She is becoming more comfortable walking on leash, and she is becoming very interested in the smells around her and in the grass. She still bolts to the end of the leash at loud sounds like a bus exhaust or loud motorcycle and will need time to trust herself in her environment. She is walked using both a harness and a non slip collar linked with a coupler for added safety. GROOMING HANDLING Jemi loves to be petted but avoids being groomed if possible. She is compliant if necessary. She is nervous and submissive due to her history of being poorly handled. PERSONALITY/TEMPERAMENT Jemi is a cuddle bug who craves human interaction! She is eager to please and truly just wants to be loved and safe. Jemi needs time to become more confident. Jemi can get overexcited and paw at people for affection. She jumps around and paws repeatedly at her humans in the mornings and when they return from work and this is a behaviour we are working to reduce using redirection and only rewarding other behaviours like sitting or touching people with her nose instead of pawing. She would love slow and consistent training to help her build confidence and connection with her new family. MEDICAL NOTES- She had a variety of parasites when she arrived into rescue and has been treated and tested monthly along with her Advantage Multi topical applied every four weeks to treat hookworm. Jemi started her journey in foster vomiting many times each day due to stress and anxiety. She is now one month without vomiting aside from carsickness, which is also improving. She is an extremely sensitive soul who thrives on routine and love. FOOD AMOUNT/TYPE: Jemi gets 3/4 of pound of raw food split into several portions throughout the day. Maintaining a raw food diet seems to be a big part in her overcoming her past digestive issues. FEEDING ROUTINES: Food and supplements and meds are mixed together. Jemi builds her relationships, in part, based on who brings her food, so her new owners should take turns feeding her to help build her trust. POTTY HABITS: Jemi only wants to go outside with of one of her foster family members. Jemi is comfortable peeing while leashed, but prefers off-leash in a quiet yard. Skills/Commands SIT? Yes STAY? No WAIT? No LAY DOWN? No LEAVE IT? No OFF? Yes DOWN? No COME? Yes Jemi will come, if called in a sweet high pitched way. She is beginning to respond to the command "touch" by booping an outstretched hand for a treat and this is one way we can redirect her from barking. CURRENT ROUTINES AND PREFERENCES THAT WILL HELP THE DOG SETTLE INTO THEIR NEW HOME: Jemi gets up at 6:00 am with the foster and other dogs, she is then uncrated, goes outside to pee, lounges until breakfast, eats and sits on the porch or goes for a walk if it is quiet. She pees again around 8:00am and then she spends the day loose on the mainfloor of the home with two other dogs and a cat mainly sleeping and looking outside or chewing toys. Foster dad works from home, but on another floor, blocked by a baby gate. She hangs out with the foster during lunch, but currently will refuse to go outside with him or the other dogs. At approx.4:30 pm when foster mom is home, she will go outside with the other dogs and pee, gets fed at 6pm. Then she does some activities, or goes for a field walk, gets groomed etc and hangs out in her crate, until last pee and then in a pet bed next to the foster dogs overnight. STRENGTHS/AREAS THEY HAVE IMPROVED ON: Jemi is less jumpy, less submissive and more bouncy. She is becoming interested in the world around her and sometimes takes treats outside. Jemi has learned to love to chew and play with toys, she is attention and love seeking TRANSPORTATION-ANY MOTION SICKNESS OR ANXIETY IN VEHICLES? Jemi is very quiet when travelling and is on medicine for anxiety which helps her to handle car trips although she sometimes vomits or drools on long drives, so crating is recommended. Jemi needs a home where everyone will commit to forming a bond with her. She would like a fairly small social circle where she can become comfortable and feel safe in a home that is not chaotic or too loud. Although she is interested and sweet with our neighborhood kids, a house without kids would suit her best. Jemi will need a yard to have freedom outside as long as her human companion is close by to help her feel safe and play with her. She loves quiet outdoor spaces and long forest walks. Adoption Fee $500 Notes: *Children are not recommended due to Jemi's need for a calm, quiet environment * Mandatory registration with an approved trainer is required to set Jemi up for success with her new family to attend once she has bonded and settled into her new home. Story
Millie has been our loyal and loving companion for over 6 years. Sadly, she no longer gets along with our other dog, and we now face the difficult task of finding her a new forever home. We acquired Millie from a Kijiji listing when she was just 6 weeks old. She’s a high-energy dog who would thrive on a property with a sizeable yard where she can roam and play freely. Being part Collie, Millie needs purpose. She thrives with daily long walks (at least 20 minutes) and engaging play sessions with her new owner—whether it’s fetch, tug, or using a flirt pole. Millie’s journey hasn’t been easy, and she’s faced some challenges, but she’s also made incredible progress. Her recent 7-week board and train program helped her learn how to regulate her nervous system, build confidence, and stay calm in public. Millie is the kind of dog who changes your life for the better. She’s an exceptionally loyal companion who loves with all her heart.

Story
Hey there, I'm Jordan!💚You know, I ended up here in the most hilarious way. I was chasing my own tail, got dizzy, and ended up taking a wrong turn at the park. Next thing I knew, I was at this place they call a 'shelter'. It's not too bad here, but I'm a curious fella who loves to explore. I'm smart too, already figured out how to open the treat jar. Oh, and I'm friendly and independent. I'll be your loyal companion but won't smother you. I promise to bring laughter, adventure, and a whole lot of love into your life. So, what do you say, want to be partners in crime? You can come in and meet me from 11 to 5:30 everyday of the week but, I can't go home until November 3rd. The humans here say I need to be neutered...whatever that is.If you would like more information please give them a call 519-942-3140 or an email orangeville@ontariospca.ca.-Jordan💚🐾✨ Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 25.5 Age: 4yrs 9mths 2wks

Story
Hi there, I'm Flynn! 💙🐾✨ I'm a big ball of love, with a heart that's always ready to play. I've got energy for days, but I'm also a master at the gentle cuddle. I've been told I'm a bit goofy, but I think that's just because I love to make my human friends laugh. I'm loyal to a fault, always by your side, ready to lend a paw or a comforting nuzzle. I'm friendly to everyone I meet, always wagging my tail and ready for a good game of fetch. But what I want most is a forever home, where I can share all my love and laughter. So, why should you adopt me? Because I promise to fill your days with joy, laughter, and unconditional love. I'm all heart, all love, and I can't wait to share it with you.If you are interested in me, please email orangeville@ontariospca.ca and include your phone number so we can better contact you.I can't wait to come home to you! 💙🐾 - Flynn 💚🐾✨ Primary Color: Brown Secondary Color: Black Weight: 28.5 Age: 2yrs 1mths 1wks
