Sweet Ana was found by our rescue partners struggling to survive on the streets while battling a severe skin infection. Sadly, people misunderstood her condition and deemed it contagious, leading to her being mistreated and shunned. Eventually, the local pound was called to take her away, but a kind person brought her to the shelter instead. Ana’s foster describes her as sweet and calm most of the time. She loves going on her walks and does well on a leash. She loves playing with her toys as well as her canine foster sister, however, on walks she is hesitant around dogs she is unfamiliar with. With that said, Ana could be the only dog in the home where she can soak up all the love and attention from her adoptive family. She is super sweet and a lot of fun when her goofy side comes out. She is very comfortable with people she knows, and people she is meeting for the first time, however, she will bark when someone new enters her home. Ana gets two walks a day and enrichment activities. She walks well on the leash and is comfortable in the car, ready for her next adventure. Ana is potty trained but may need an adjustment period when she moves homes. Ana is learning basic commands, like paw, sit and wait. Her adopter will need to continue basic training. Ana is not crate-trained and has free roam of the home. She has been left alone for 6 hours with no issues. She is not destructive in the home but she's very interested in food and will investigate anything left out. For her safety, all food needs to be stored out of reach. Ana sleeps through the night in her bed. Ana’s ideal family would be one that can include her daily activities, whether it be a good walk or a good snuggle. She is flexible and adaptable in her needs; she just needs someone committed to whom she can show her love to. Ana is a testament to resilience and love. This sweet girl has a heart full of affection and a longing for a forever family. Interacting with humans and her furry companions brings her so much joy. Her moderate energy level makes her an ideal partner for long walks and cozy cuddle sessions. Ana shows her love by following you around, seeking belly rubs and simply enjoying your company. Ana has shown prey drive toward cats and is looking for a cat-free home at this time. She has not been tested with children so we suggest that she is adopted into a child-free home. Ana has shown signs of protectiveness towards her foster parents. With that said, Ana will require proper and slow introductions when it comes to welcoming new people into the home as she can get overly excited. If you're interested in fostering with the intention of adopting Ana, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Ana's adoption fee is $250. Story
Kika / Female / Approximately 2.5 years old / 60 lbs / Terrier Mix / Good with Dogs / Good with Older Children / Not Tested with Cats / From Mexico / Fostered in Mississauga Meet Kika! Kika's foster describes her as a very loving girl who adores affection and attention. Kika came to us after she wandered into the home of a volunteer at our partner rescue badly injured and clearly the subject of mistreatment. She was in terrible shape and must have known the right place to come. They say that she rescued herself! Kika loves giving kisses and twisting into weird shapes to sit on your lap (even though she is not really the right size for a lap dog). She never stops giving her people attention. She follows her fosters around the house with a very wiggly bum trying to get pets and scratches. Kika is overcoming her tragic beginning and learning how to be a great companion. She is a very sweet and deserving girl and is eager to find her forever! After attention and love from her people, Kika's favourite thing is toys. She loves playing by herself and will throw her toys around and chase them down. Her favourites are toys that make loud and preferably obnoxious noises. Once her play time is done, she will lay in the middle of the room and flip herself over when someone walks by in the hopes of getting belly rubs. Kika also enjoys enrichment games and searching for treats hidden around the house. Kika is still very nervous in the outside world and prefers walks in the early morning or later in the evening when things are quiet. She does not like being approached by strangers and will demand her own space and may react if a stranger crosses her threshold. Kika prefers quieter areas, she does not like busy areas and gets spooked by scooters. Kika can take some time to warm up to new people, especially men, but once she does she is the most affectionate girl. In the house, Kika has been left alone for several hours in one room of the house with food, water, and toys, and has done well. She is not usually crated and takes a few minutes to settle but is then fine on her own and not destructive. When her people are home she likes being close to them. Kika sleeps through the night on a couch or in her crate without issue. Kika is food motivated and loves to learn new things, though she can be a bit clumsy. She is fully potty trained. Kika is social with other dogs but prefers calmer, respectful dogs, and appreciates being able to get her own space if she feels overwhelmed. Generally though she seems to find the presence of another dog soothing and we think she would do great in a home with a calm, respectful dog who can reassure her and show her the ropes. Kika has not been tested with cats but may be able to live with a cat. Kika currently lives with two teenage girls who she adores and loves playing with. Kika could live in a home with older kids, aged 12+. The energy and unpredictable nature of smaller kids might be too much for Kika. Kika's ideal home would be a patient family that can give her time to feel secure and gain her trust. Once she trusts, Kika wants to be with her people all the time. She would love a quiet home where someone is home more often than not. She would do best in a home with mostly females. Kika needs a family who understands her boundaries and is willing to advocate for her space, especially when meeting new people. Kika would do best in a home in a quieter area. Kika is a sweet girl who had an extremely difficult start to life. Kika has been given a new opportunity and is looking to join a very lucky family. If you’re interested in adopting Kika, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Kika’s adoption fee is $850. Lexi is a sweet and special dog who is waiting for a forever home to call her own. She is curious, loving, enjoys little toys and all the cuddles from her trusted people. Lexi is much smaller than her photos make her look and is the perfect size for a calm cuddle on the couch. Lexi is described by her fosters as a relaxed girl who enjoys cuddles, toys and treats. She can be very shy at first and takes time to assess her surroundings, but once she is comfortable her loving personality shines! Lexi loves to play fetch, run outside and snuggle up for a good belly rub. With patience and time, Lexi will show you what a wonderful companion she is. With people she knows, Lexi is relaxed and always ready to soak up some love and attention. When meeting new people, Lexi will need time to warm up. She uses her crate as a safe space and needs support to learn it is safe to come out and get to know new people. Lexi has not met children yet, but given her calm nature we think she could live with older, respectful kids who understand her boundaries. Lexi is looking for a family with a home in a quiet area as loud city noises and busy streets make her nervous. A backyard in a quiet area would be great for Lexi to build her confidence outdoors. Lexi has recently started to venture into the world and with nicer weather, it’s the perfect time for her family to continue with this great progress. Lexi needs motivation and support from her humans, and sometimes a lift to get out of the door. Lexi is dog-social and would benefit from a canine sibling to help build her confidence and provide companionship. She could be a solo pet as long as she is provided opportunities to socialize. Lexi has not met cats but would likely be ok with proper introductions as she is passive in nature. As a nervous girl, Lexi is still learning that the outside world can be safe and fun. She is gradually learning to walk on leash, but will require support in this area. Lexi is very food-motivated, which makes her the perfect candidate for training. She loves to get her zoomies out in the yard, and is slowly gaining confidence to enjoy walks in quiet neighbourhoods, or parks. Lexi is a homebody and is on her best behaviour indoors. She is fully potty-trained and crate-trained. She can be left alone and is not destructive. She settles in her crate easily, as long as the crate is in a quiet part of the house away from windows and doors. Lexi is learning more commands over time. Her love of treats makes training a breeze! Lexi is a flight risk and our top priority in her furever home is safety. Her forever family must take precautions to keep her safe and secure, including the purchase of a GPS tracker, which will be required for adoption. Do you have a quiet, calm home and want a cuddly homebody? Lexi is your girl! If you’re interested in fostering with the intention of adopting Lexi, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Lexi’s adoption fee is $250. Story
King Tutt / Male / 2 years / 66 lbs / Mastiff Mix / Good with Dogs / No Cats Please / Good with Children / From Tennessee / Fostered in Toronto ** Follow King Tutt’s journey on Instagram @tk_fetchfosters Meet King Tutt! This beautiful brindle boy came to us from Tennessee where he, his brother and dad were left without a home. Despite his difficult past, King Tutt is full of charm and is sure to win over everyone he meets. King Tutt’s foster’s describe him as loyal, loving and playful. He loves to make new friends, whether human or canine. Being with his people is important to him, whether it is out on an adventure, playing at home, or lounging on the couch. King Tutt can be a silly guy, who enjoys exploring, playing with toys, swimming, and running in the yard. He will make a great addition to an active family. King Tutt is a social butterfly, who loves to meet new people, and soak up attention from those he already knows. He has shown no hesitation, and will greet people with excitement, ready for scritches and cuddles. King Tutt has met older children and done well. He sees them as more humans to give him love and attention and will soak it all up. He can get excited and jump, so interactions should be monitored. Although he has not met young children, given his demeanor we think he would do well with respectful, dog-savvy children. King Tutt is very adaptable and is happy to be where his people are. Given this he would do well in any living environment, so long as he has access to greenspace. A home with a yard would be amazing, as he loves to run and play, but if given sufficient exercise he will be good. He really does love to explore and play outdoors, so an active family that shares his love of nature would be perfect. Playing with other dogs is one of King Tutt’s favourite activities. He currently lives with another dog and enjoys his company. King Tutt would do well solo as well, he would just need opportunities to socialize and play with other dogs. King Tutt has not met cats yet, so we are looking for a cat-free home at this time. King Tutt is a busy guy, who needs both physical and mental activities each day. He is gradually learning his leash manners, and enjoys the time outside to sniff. He has shown no signs of reactivity, or fear with other people/dogs, or city sounds. He can pull when he gets excited, so his new family should be prepared to continue working with him with his leash manners. At home King Tutt is learning his house manners with ease. He is house-trained, crate-trained and working on his commands. He has not been given free reign of the house if he is alone yet, as he is curious and may counter surf. King Tutt is not overly food motivated, but he loves to make his humans proud, so training is lots of fun! Prior to coming into care, King Tutt tested positive for Ehrlichia which is a tick-borne infection and is not contagious. A CBC was performed to see if there is an active infection. King Tutt 's CBC came back indicating that there is no active infection however it is recommended that Ehrlichia positive dogs get an annual blood test to monitor and that pre-op blood work including a CBC test and platelet count be performed before any surgeries or dental extractions. King Tutt also has mild enamel hypoplasia which is thinning of the enamel on his teeth. Homecare will help with brushing but he may require professional dental cleaning in the future. He should avoid hard chews, toys, and treats as his teeth will be more prone to breaking during play. If you’re interested in adopting King Tutt, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form King Tutt’s adoption fee is $850. Story
Ford / Male / Approx. 9 months / Weight 50 lbs / Mixed Breed / Good with Dogs / Good with Kids / Untested with Cats / From Tennessee/ Fostered in Port Perry Follow Ford’s journey on Instagram: @bennyandtheriggs Meet Ford! Ford’s foster describes his as sweet and spunky! Ford came into our care after he was found by our rescue partner in Tennessee alone with his siblings. They were very skinny when found but have since been nursed back to health. Ford is now fostered locally and is getting ready to meet his forever family. A very sweet boy-Ford loves to snuggle and give hugs. Some of his favourite activities are chewing, running around, and playing with his foster siblings. Ford is working on his confidence and is sometimes nervous when meeting new people (he is also spooked by his own reflection-cute!). His fosters believe he is best meeting people in his own home where he is most confident. He has met children as young as three and did very well with them. However, he is still a puppy and proper precautions should be taken to ensure the wellbeing of all family members. Ford is fostered on a big property with a fenced yard. He does well in this environment but would also do well on a property not as large. His fosters do not believe that he is suited for big city living. Currently, Ford is living with two foster brothers and gets along with them very well. He would certainly enjoy the company of another dog, and his fosters believe this is the ideal situation for him. He has not yet been tested with cats. Being a puppy, Ford has a higher energy level and requires regular exercise. He walks well on a leash and loves to run and play in the yard. He does not like going to the bathroom on his leash and will try to avoid it. He is doing very well with potty training but has had a few accidents in new environments. He is nervous on the street and gets scared easily. Ford is working on basic training and recall. He loves his treats and learns quickly however being so young he will need ongoing support from his new family. He has been left alone for up to four hours and has done well. He is left in his crate and cannot yet be trusted free reign as he can sometimes chew and try to ingest his toys. He sleeps well in his crate at night and settles very quickly. Ford is a lovely boy who is waiting for his perfect forever family. We believe that with the right family, his confidence will show, and he will truly shine. As a condition of the adoption contract, Ford’s new family will be required to: - Ensure he has an opportunity to go outside every 2-3 hours. If you work full time, this means hiring a dog walker to come in 2x per day for a puppy visit - Attend and complete a basic obedience class at your own cost (proof required). - Provide plenty of socialization opportunities – both dog and human – it's important at this stage. - Spay/neuter within 6 mos of adoption. If done at our partner vet in Mississauga, the spay/neuter will be included in the adoption fee. If you choose to do it elsewhere, it will be done at your own cost. Proof of neuter is required to finalize the adoption. If you are interested in adopting Ford please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Ford’s adoption fee is $900. Story
Yara / F / 3Y / 33 lbs / Egyptian Baladi Mix / Needs slow introductions with dogs / No children please / No cats please / From Egypt / Fostered in Toronto Follow Yara’s journey on Instagram @yaragirlpup Meet Yara! Yara was rescued after being dumped in a scrapyard in Egypt when she was just a few months old. She was nursed back to health and has since made the big trip to Canada. Yara's fosters describe her as a completely loveable little lady. She is gentle, polite, and affectionate. She can be a bit shy to start out but once she knows you, it is love and pets all day long. She will bring her head to your hand and just rest there. With people she knows, Yara is friendly and prefers to be nearby where she can soak up attention when she wants, or just be close to her pack. Yara can be hesitant, and sometimes vocal, when meeting new people so slow introductions are crucial. She needs time to observe and feel safe in new surroundings and with new people. Yara has had mixed experiences with children in the past, so we are recommending a child-free home at this time. The ideal home for Yara would be with a family that will include her in daily activities and advocate for her when out. A home in a quieter neighbourhood would be best as Yara is nervous of loud noises and busy streets. A yard where she can explore and lounge would be a bonus as she loves to be outside. Access to greenspace will be a necessity for Yara. Yara is a true sweetheart, who likes to take things slow. She is ready for a patient family who is willing to help her feel safe and loved. Yara needs proper, slow introductions with other dogs. She can be reactive with dogs on the street, especially if they are bigger than her. That being said, Yara has lived with other dogs in the past and done well. She enjoyed going for walks together and having their company in the house. Yara prefers the company of a calm, smaller dog. Yara has lived with cats in the past, but does have a high prey drive, so a cat-free home would be best. Yara absolutely loves being outdoors and enjoys walks, especially ones involving nature trails. Exploring new smells and places is one of her favourite things to do. She also loves to climb up on walls, or logs, as she explores. Yara thoroughly enjoys walks and is making good progress with loose leash training. That said, she will pull if she sees squirrels or birds and can be reactive in busy environments. A quiet neighbourhood street is her dream ‘go for a walk’ scenario. Yara is wonderful within the house. She has great manners and does well when left alone. She was crate-trained in the past, but shows no signs of anxiety or destructive behaviours so she is able to free roam. Yara tends not to use her crate in the house but does enjoy having it when she goes for car rides. Yara is not super food-motivated, but you can win her over with chicken and cheese. She already knows her basic commands and is house-trained. She enjoys playing with a snuffle-mat after she has finished dinner. If you’re interested in adopting Yara, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Yara’s adoption fee is $850.
