Visit https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info for more info on mandatory supplies. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Capuchina / F / 7Y / 35lbs / Mixed Breed / Medium energy / Dog selective / No cats please / Kids 14+/ From Mexico / Fostered in Warkworth Meet Capuchina! Capuchina's foster describes her as energetic and affectionate. Capuchina came into our care after being abandoned in a house with no food or water. After this heartbreaking chapter in her life, Capuchina is ready to start fresh with her very special forever family. She loves bell rubs and massages and will approach her fosters to ask for cuddles. Capuchina loves playing with humans and dogs who have gained her trust. She enjoys walkies, fetch and, of course, treats! Her fosters say that she is wonderfully goofy and expressive. When asked to shake a paw, Capuchina is sure to do so with dramatic gusto that will put a smile on anyone's face. With people she knows and trusts, Capuchina will be your little shadow. She will approach you with a little reindeer prance to show her happiness. If you are patient enough for her to come out of her shell, Capuchina will reward you with unwavering love and adoration. Given her past, Capuchina is understandably wary of unfamiliar people. She has been making great improvements with meeting new people though. Her fosters describe her as apprehensive but curious and friendly whenever she meets someone new. Capuchina can play a bit rough with children so her perfect family would be one without any young kids. It is also important that all members of the family respect Capuchina's feelings and give her space and time to adjust as needed. Capuchina's ideal forever home would be in a rural or suburban setting with a balanced resident dog to help her settle in and feel more comfortable. Her forever family should be familiar and dedicated to positive reinforcement training and be patient and understanding of her decompression period and nervousness. Capuchina is currently doing very well on a raw diet and her forever family would ideally be willing to continue this diet with her or at least be committed to feeding high-quality kibble like Acana or Orijen. Capuchina would do best in a home where she is not left alone for long periods, where she can get lots of mental enrichment and physical exercise. Her foster thinks she would do wonderfully in agility sports! Capuchina has not lived with a cat while in care but has previously shown some prey drive. While she may eventually be able to share her home with a dog-savvy kitty companion, at this time we ask that she go to a cat-free home. In the past, Capuchina has been reactive to other dogs who are high-energy. She is currently doing wonderfully in her foster home and loves playing with specific canine companions. Capuchina will need an experienced forever home that will continue to work with her interactions with other dogs. We think she would do best with another well balanced dog in the home. Capuchina's foster describes her as a high-energy dog. She spends her days going for walks, playing fetch, hide and seek and running around with her selected doggy friends. She is currently focusing on impulse control exercises as a form of mental stimulation. Capuchina has made great improvements with walking on a leash. She can get excited by squirrels and pull at times, but she no longer reacts to normal traffic or people. Capuchina is house-trained and crate-trained. She is crated for a short period each day and she takes about two minutes to settle in. Capuchina does not show any destructive tendencies but she may find something to get into that she shouldn't. For this reason, she should be crated when her people are not home until they can build trust and boundaries with her. Capuchina spends the night in her crate and she sleeps soundly throughout the night. Capuchina is fine being left in her crate but she always has her doggy friends in the same room with her; a resident dog may help her to settle faster in her new home. Capuchina has mastered many basic obedience commands and loves her training sessions since she is very food-motivated. Capuchina is great at traveling in the car! Capuchina has mild enamel hypoplasia, which is thinning of the enamel on her teeth. Home care (brushing) will help but she may require professional dental cleaning in the future. She should avoid hard chews, toys, and treats as her teeth will be more prone to breaking during play. Capuchina is currently on 5mg of Melatonin to naturally assist with some anxiety, which she has been doing very well on and should continue this supplement. Due to Capuchina's unique circumstances, prospective adopters must commit to attending training sessions with her post-adoption with a certified R+ dog trainer to ensure a successful transition. If you’re interested in fostering with the intention of adopting, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Capuchina’s adoption fee is sponsored by Fetch + Releash as long as her future family is willing to attend training sessions with her to help set her up for success. Story
Micah / Male / 3 years old / 66 pounds / Mixed Breed / Good with Other Dogs / Good With Cats / Untested with Kids / Fostered in Georgetown / From Tennessee Meet Micah! This unique beauty was found as a stray in Tennessee and has made the journey to Ontario in search of his forever home. While we don’t know much about Micah’s past, his striking looks and unique personality ensure that he is destined to become a beloved pet. Micah’s foster describes him as sweet and gentle. He will lean his entire body on you for scratches. He likes to know where his foster is in the home and follows her around. He gets bursts of playful energy and will run a few laps in the backyard with his foster siblings. Micah loves toys and most games but is partial to “find it”. He is also learning the joys of fetch. He is medium energy and enjoys play time, as well as enrichment activities like snuffle mat, kong tire, and bully sticks. Micah loves sitting by the patio door and watching the backyard, barking at the occasional squirrel. Since coming from Tennessee where he lived outdoors in a pen for several years, Micah has adjusted well to domestic life. He is now walking well on a leash, occasionally pulling when excited, for long walks (about 1 hour) every morning. After walking, Micah settles for the day. He has developed a strong appreciation for the couch and is usually found laying around on it throughout the day. Micah does well in the house and has been left crated up to 8 hours and in a doggy proof space for up to 3 hours. He has not been destructive but should not be left with access to anything he should not chew on. He is learning that things on the counter are off limits to dogs and is very responsive to redirection. Micah sleeps through the night without issue. He is fully potty trained. Micah gets a little anxious getting into the car and may need to be lifted in. Once he is in he has not shown any signs of nerves or carsickness and will quietly lay down or look out the window. We believe this will improve as he continues to get used to the car. Micah lives with 2 other dogs in his foster home and has other dog friends. We believe he could join a family with another well-adjusted dog with proper intros, but would also be fine as the only dog soaking up all the attention. Micah has lived with a cat and they peacefully shared the house. When first introduced, Micah definitely seemed interested but would leave the cat alone and not fixate on her. Micah has not met children since being in care but would likely be fine with older, dog-savvy children. Micah is a special boy and is working so hard on becoming the best version of himself. He would benefit from an active family who likes to go on adventures outside the city. He needs a family that is committed to his ongoing training, which includes basic commands; particularly recall. He would do best in a home with a yard so he can spend time outside soaking up the sunshine. If you’re interested in adopting Micah, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form. Micah’s adoption fee is $850. Sweet Ana was found by our rescue partners struggling to survive on the streets while battling a severe skin infection. Sadly, people misunderstood her condition and deemed it contagious, leading to her being mistreated and shunned. Eventually, the local pound was called to take her away, but a kind person brought her to the shelter instead. Ana’s foster describes her as sweet and calm most of the time. She loves going on her walks and does well on a leash. She loves playing with her toys as well as her canine foster sister, however, on walks she is hesitant around dogs she is unfamiliar with. With that said, Ana could be the only dog in the home where she can soak up all the love and attention from her adoptive family. She is super sweet and a lot of fun when her goofy side comes out. She is very comfortable with people she knows, and people she is meeting for the first time, however, she will bark when someone new enters her home. Ana gets two walks a day and enrichment activities. She walks well on the leash and is comfortable in the car, ready for her next adventure. Ana is potty trained but may need an adjustment period when she moves homes. Ana is learning basic commands, like paw, sit and wait. Her adopter will need to continue basic training. Ana is not crate-trained and has free roam of the home. She has been left alone for 6 hours with no issues. She is not destructive in the home but she's very interested in food and will investigate anything left out. For her safety, all food needs to be stored out of reach. Ana sleeps through the night in her bed. Ana’s ideal family would be one that can include her daily activities, whether it be a good walk or a good snuggle. She is flexible and adaptable in her needs; she just needs someone committed to whom she can show her love to. Ana is a testament to resilience and love. This sweet girl has a heart full of affection and a longing for a forever family. Interacting with humans and her furry companions brings her so much joy. Her moderate energy level makes her an ideal partner for long walks and cozy cuddle sessions. Ana shows her love by following you around, seeking belly rubs and simply enjoying your company. Ana has shown prey drive toward cats and is looking for a cat-free home at this time. She has not been tested with children so we suggest that she is adopted into a child-free home. Ana has shown signs of protectiveness towards her foster parents. With that said, Ana will require proper and slow introductions when it comes to welcoming new people into the home as she can get overly excited. If you're interested in fostering with the intention of adopting Ana, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Ana's adoption fee is $250. Story
Miel / Female / 24 lbs / 1.5 year old / Whippet Cross / Good Second Dog / No Cats Please / Untested with Kids / Prefers Quieter Home / From Mexico / Fostered in Peterborough Follow Miel’s adventures on Instagram @barkingatthebowl Meet Miel! This girl is true to her name, sweet and cuddly and eager to please! Miel previously had a loving family who took care of her and brought her in to be spayed by our partner rescue in Mexico. After the successful operation, her family opted to surrender her to the rescue. She has since made her way to Canada to find her forever family. Miel is a real sweetheart and her fosters describe her as loving, smart, excitable, and eager to please. Her favourite things are cuddling, being close to her people, chewing on stuffies, going on walks and keeping those pesky birds and squirrels in line. She is a true lap dog and always wants to be as close to you as possible. She will slide up onto the couch and give you kisses. She is always happy when her fosters get home and will leap onto the couch for snuggles. She really wants to show her good girl nature and will sit politely to get your attention. Miel bonded quickly with her fosters and is snuggly and loving. She is, however, apprehensive of new people in the home and will growl to indicate she needs space. She can be won over by treats and ignoring her, and creating a safe space where she can be left alone. Her forever home will have to keep this in mind and advocate for her space and comfort with any visitors in the home. Miel really loves getting out for her walks. She currently gets 3 walks a day for about 20-30 minutes, plus some pee breaks and time to play in the yard. She is a puller on leash because she has a strong prey drive for small critters. Miel can be reactive to people, dogs, and cars and will start barking and trying to chase. Miel’s fosters are working on this and will usually keep her leash short when she is close to a trigger and calm her down using sit and down commands. Her forever family should be prepared to work on some leash reactivity with her so she can be supported and learn that outside does not need to be so overwhelming. Miel lives with another dog and they coexist well. Miel finds comfort in his presence but they are not overly playful. She may be more playful with a different dog. She is fed separately from the resident dog as she does guard her food and will growl if he gets too close. She may also guard her people if she is on the couch with them and the other dog approaches. Her fosters are working on this with her. Miel is looking for a home without cats or other small critters as she will definitely chase. Miel has not been tested with children. She would likely bond with children in the home but she would not like a busy home with lots of people going in or out so an adult-only home, or a home with older children who can give her space would be best. Miel currently stays home most days with her dog foster brother. She is not crated but is kept out of the kitchen and other parts of the house. She stays in the living room with her foster bro and settles quickly. She has only been left alone once and was distraught and vocal. If Miel joins a family as the only dog she will need practice being left alone and would probably not do well being left on her own for a full work day. Miel is a very smart little cookie. She is working on basic training and knows sit, touch, and her name. She is eager to learn and food-motivated so training is really fun. She is working on her leash manners but is otherwise a real dream girl. Miel would do best in a quieter neighbourhood and living with a few devoted people. She is an incredible companion and would love nothing more than to be her loyal and loving self with the right family. If you’re interested in adopting Miel, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Miel’s adoption fee is $850. Story
Kika / Female / Approximately 2.5 years old / 60 lbs / Terrier Mix / Good with Dogs / Good with Older Children / Not Tested with Cats / From Mexico / Fostered in Mississauga Meet Kika! Kika's foster describes her as a very loving girl who adores affection and attention. Kika came to us after she wandered into the home of a volunteer at our partner rescue badly injured and clearly the subject of mistreatment. She was in terrible shape and must have known the right place to come. They say that she rescued herself! Kika loves giving kisses and twisting into weird shapes to sit on your lap (even though she is not really the right size for a lap dog). She never stops giving her people attention. She follows her fosters around the house with a very wiggly bum trying to get pets and scratches. Kika is overcoming her tragic beginning and learning how to be a great companion. She is a very sweet and deserving girl and is eager to find her forever! After attention and love from her people, Kika's favourite thing is toys. She loves playing by herself and will throw her toys around and chase them down. Her favourites are toys that make loud and preferably obnoxious noises. Once her play time is done, she will lay in the middle of the room and flip herself over when someone walks by in the hopes of getting belly rubs. Kika also enjoys enrichment games and searching for treats hidden around the house. Kika is still very nervous in the outside world and prefers walks in the early morning or later in the evening when things are quiet. She does not like being approached by strangers and will demand her own space and may react if a stranger crosses her threshold. Kika prefers quieter areas, she does not like busy areas and gets spooked by scooters. Kika can take some time to warm up to new people, especially men, but once she does she is the most affectionate girl. In the house, Kika has been left alone for several hours in one room of the house with food, water, and toys, and has done well. She is not usually crated and takes a few minutes to settle but is then fine on her own and not destructive. When her people are home she likes being close to them. Kika sleeps through the night on a couch or in her crate without issue. Kika is food motivated and loves to learn new things, though she can be a bit clumsy. She is fully potty trained. Kika is social with other dogs but prefers calmer, respectful dogs, and appreciates being able to get her own space if she feels overwhelmed. Generally though she seems to find the presence of another dog soothing and we think she would do great in a home with a calm, respectful dog who can reassure her and show her the ropes. Kika has not been tested with cats but may be able to live with a cat. Kika currently lives with two teenage girls who she adores and loves playing with. Kika could live in a home with older kids, aged 12+. The energy and unpredictable nature of smaller kids might be too much for Kika. Kika's ideal home would be a patient family that can give her time to feel secure and gain her trust. Once she trusts, Kika wants to be with her people all the time. She would love a quiet home where someone is home more often than not. She would do best in a home with mostly females. Kika needs a family who understands her boundaries and is willing to advocate for her space, especially when meeting new people. Kika would do best in a home in a quieter area. Kika is a sweet girl who had an extremely difficult start to life. Kika has been given a new opportunity and is looking to join a very lucky family. If you’re interested in adopting Kika, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Kika’s adoption fee is $850. Lexi is a sweet and special dog who is waiting for a forever home to call her own. She is curious, loving, enjoys little toys and all the cuddles from her trusted people. Lexi is much smaller than her photos make her look and is the perfect size for a calm cuddle on the couch. Lexi is described by her fosters as a relaxed girl who enjoys cuddles, toys and treats. She can be very shy at first and takes time to assess her surroundings, but once she is comfortable her loving personality shines! Lexi loves to play fetch, run outside and snuggle up for a good belly rub. With patience and time, Lexi will show you what a wonderful companion she is. With people she knows, Lexi is relaxed and always ready to soak up some love and attention. When meeting new people, Lexi will need time to warm up. She uses her crate as a safe space and needs support to learn it is safe to come out and get to know new people. Lexi has not met children yet, but given her calm nature we think she could live with older, respectful kids who understand her boundaries. Lexi is looking for a family with a home in a quiet area as loud city noises and busy streets make her nervous. A backyard in a quiet area would be great for Lexi to build her confidence outdoors. Lexi has recently started to venture into the world and with nicer weather, it’s the perfect time for her family to continue with this great progress. Lexi needs motivation and support from her humans, and sometimes a lift to get out of the door. Lexi is dog-social and would benefit from a canine sibling to help build her confidence and provide companionship. She could be a solo pet as long as she is provided opportunities to socialize. Lexi has not met cats but would likely be ok with proper introductions as she is passive in nature. As a nervous girl, Lexi is still learning that the outside world can be safe and fun. She is gradually learning to walk on leash, but will require support in this area. Lexi is very food-motivated, which makes her the perfect candidate for training. She loves to get her zoomies out in the yard, and is slowly gaining confidence to enjoy walks in quiet neighbourhoods, or parks. Lexi is a homebody and is on her best behaviour indoors. She is fully potty-trained and crate-trained. She can be left alone and is not destructive. She settles in her crate easily, as long as the crate is in a quiet part of the house away from windows and doors. Lexi is learning more commands over time. Her love of treats makes training a breeze! Lexi is a flight risk and our top priority in her furever home is safety. Her forever family must take precautions to keep her safe and secure, including the purchase of a GPS tracker, which will be required for adoption. Do you have a quiet, calm home and want a cuddly homebody? Lexi is your girl! If you’re interested in fostering with the intention of adopting Lexi, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Lexi’s adoption fee is $250.
