Story
Intake Date: 22 Jan 2022 ----- Adopted: 13 Feb 2022 ---- Returned to Rescue: 25 April 2024 ----- Age at latest Intake: 3 yrs ----- Breed: Husky or Akita or Shiba mix? ----- Estimated Size: 38 lbs ----- Status: Surrender at open surrender event. ----- Compatible with: Dogs, cats children. ----- Suitable for: home with a fenced yard ----- Medical/Behavioral Needs: none noted ----- Additional Notes: Welcome back Alaska! I remember Alaska fondly from our no judgment surrender event. He is a happy happy dog. Unfortunately after over 2 years in a home, he is returned to rescue due to no fault of his own. His owners medical health was getting in the way of proper care. Alaska is a young and active boy. He loves walks and playing. He came from a home with multiple children and cats too. He is a great dog. He is clean in his kennel. His one thing is that he does chew when bored. He loves everyone he meets! Is super happy all the time and even enjoys car rides. I adore this dog. He has a beautiful coat and his family definitely took great care of him. He deserves a final home for the rest of his life. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If interested in meeting and potentially adopting please read the adoption requirements and complete the adoption application located at forbellessake.org. Story
Intake Date: 6 October 2023 ----- Age at intake: 3 years ----- Breed: Boxer Bulldog mix ----- Size: 50 lbs ----- Status: pound pull/stray hold expiration ----- Compatible with: dogs, children. Cats unknown ----- Suitable for: home with a fenced yard, possible apartment with adequate daily leash exercise ----- Medical/Behavioral Needs: none noted ----- Additional Notes: Welcome Cora!! This beautiful girl came to rescue with Nora and these two gals are good buddies. Cora is a bit shy sometimes but she LOVES food and treats so she is easy to win over. She can be a bit dog selective and just needs slower introductions and her space in the beginning but she has made friends here. We have not cat tested yet but have a feeling she would do best in a cat free home. She deserves an amazing forever home. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If interested in meeting and potentially adopting please read the adoption requirements and complete the adoption application located at forbellessake.org. Story
Intake Date: 12 January 2024 ------ Adopted 24 February 2024 ------ Returned to Rescue: 1 June 2024 -------- Age at Original Intake: 7 weeks ----- Breed: GSD mix with ??? ----- Size: expected 45-55 lbs ----- Status: Pound Pull ----- Compatible with: Dogs, cats, children. ----- Suitable for: home with a fenced yard ----- Medical/Behavioral Needs: none noted ----- Additional Notes: Welcome Iclyn! She is gorgeous and the tiny one of the family, for now. And has such a sweet personality. She came to rescue with her mom, North, and 4 siblings in -53 temps. So their names are all corresponding to the weather and we are calling them the Winter Pups! If considering adoption, remember, this is an 18 year commitment and they deserve to be a part of their family for the duration. Puppies are not temporary. Iclyn is a beautiful pup. She is higher energy and will need an active owner. She is also young but so smart and easy to train. Iclyn is mouthy like a shepherd so we are working on that. She would do best with children 7+. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If interested in meeting and potentially adopting please read the adoption requirements and complete the adoption application located at forbellessake.org. Story
Intake Date: 23 February 2024 -------- Age at Intake: 2 yrs ----- Breed: Chihuahua ----- Size: 5 lbs ----- Status: Pound Pull/Unclaimed ----- Compatible with: No children. ----- Suitable for: home with adult(s) only ----- Medical/Behavioral Needs: Extremely fear Aggressive ----- Additional Notes: Welcome Capone. Named so for a reason. I really do not have a lot of good tings to say for this dude yet. He was found astray and was untouchable at the pound. Here in rescue, we have made progress in his rehab albeit slow. In nearly 20 years of rehabilitation, he is our worse case by far. He viciously bites and if he was any larger, would cause significant injury. We are figuring fear aggression with a combination of conditioning. We think he was exposed to some violance and biting or charging and biting caused people to back off, therefore conditioning him to that behavior to stay safe. We couldn't approach him at all without being attacked and he has bitten with enough force to bite through bite gloves and cause injury. We are going to continue working with him and have seen progress but he may never be considered safe for the public. We have earned his trust and he has accepted out boundaries and thrived with a routine. He may be a dog that just does best with a one or two owner home that is quieter and doesn't have a lot of guests. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If interested in meeting and potentially adopting please read the adoption requirements and complete the adoption application located at forbellessake.org. Story
Intake Date: 26 February 2024 -------- Age at Intake: 1.5 yrs ----- Breed: Poodle Mix ----- Size: 45 lbs ----- Status: Hoarding situation ----- Compatible with: Dogs, cats, calmer children ----- Suitable for: home with a fenced yard. No exceptions ----- Medical/Behavioral Needs: Undersocialized, requires regular grooming ----- Additional Notes: Welcome Pria! A stunning little beauty that was part of the 26 dog hoarding and neglect case. What we have learned so far is that she loves to eat. Has no idea that she is to go outside to go potty so she will need housetraining. She doesn't understand the leash and will need leash training as well. And she likes to chew and ripped up her bed already and every potty pad she gets so we are working on teaching her what to chew. She is quite shy but not aggressive or snappy. She will require regular grooming and coat maintenance to ensure it never gets to the condition it was in when she was brought to rescue. She will likely thrive in a calm home. An adopter will have to be very willing to understand and accept that she is not a "typical" dog but that that is not an excuse not to challenge her and expose to her to new things so that she can learn to navigate her emotions and responses. The only way for a dog to blossom is to not put them in a box and prevent them from encountering anything uncomfortable or that makes them uneasy. She deserves a family that will help her GROW and develop and get more and more confident, not shelter her. Knowing that is going to take time and a lot of consistent work. And she deserves to feel safe and confident in the world. The work is worth it! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If interested in meeting and potentially adopting please read the adoption requirements and complete the adoption application located at forbellessake.org. Story
Intake Date: 15 Mar 2024 ------ Adopted 23 March 2024 ------ Returned to Rescue: 28 April 2024 -------- Age at Intake: 2 yrs ----- Breed: Husky Mix ----- Size: 80 lbs ----- Status: Owner Surrender ----- Compatible with: Dogs, cats, calmer children ----- Suitable for: home with a fenced yard, or leash always. Possible apartment. ----- Medical/Behavioral Needs: none noted ----- Additional Notes: Welcome Beau. Another sad situation. His owner was losing a place to live and facing homelessness. For Beau's wellbeing, she made the toughest, selfless decision and asked us to find him a forever home that could care for him. Beau is a sweetheart but he is very shy here. He is a little overweight so we are working on that but should be easy. He seems housetrained and hasn't had a single accident in his room and his owner said he will hold it for hours. He is also very quiet and low energy. He LOVES small dogs. He is so gentle with them! Beau deserves to be in a forever home. Beau was adopted quickly after coming to rescue and really hadn't had time to adjust. I think it was all too quick for him. He was returned to rescue for getting out of their fence, chewing on things when left alone, and being too big in the home running into things. A lot of fear/anxiety and boredom behaviors. They were an elderly couple so Beau probably just needs a bit more exercise and exposure. Time to decompress and stability. He is a doll for us albeit shy. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If interested in meeting and potentially adopting please read the adoption requirements and complete the adoption application located at forbellessake.org.
