Story
Coming soon in Salt Point! Meet Baby Blue a diamond in the ruff. He is a blue healer mix who is around 2 years old. He came into the shelter as a stray so nothing is known about his earlier life but since coming to my house he has been working on manners and basic obedience. This will need to continue in his new home. He is a big dog at 65 pounds and can be pushy, rude, and sometimes pulls hard while on leash. He loves to cuddle and will force himself onto your lap and flip your hand to make you pet him. He is very active and needs a home who will exercise his body and mind. No cats or small children, he will knock them down, but older dog savy kids are ok. He loves to chew bones, is good loose in the house, and sometimes sleeps upside down in the cutest way. Baby Blue gets along with all the dogs in the house and needs a fenced in yard to run and sunbathe. He is currently in foster in Salt Point, NY. If this cute boy sounds perfect for you , please fill out our application: https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application There is an additional $20 microchip fee which includes registration and transfer to his new furever family. All adoption fees are used for future rescue efforts.

Story
Courtesy Post: Owner Surrender/Rehoming- West Islip, NY Allie is an 17 week old Australian Shepherd/Blue Heeler mix and weighs between 15-18 lbs. She is microchipped and up to date on shots, but isn’t spayed or on heartworm prevention. Allie is good with kids and farm animals! She hasn’t been tested around cats or other dogs, but is good with the other dogs inside of the home. She is crate-trained, but isn’t housebroken. The owner rescued them from a puppy mill in Ohio and can’t provide what she needs. She needs to find her furever home as soon as possible! If you think you can provide a great home for Allie, please contact the owner listed below. There is a $100 rehoming fee to assure good folks with good intentions. This fee will be donated to Australian Shepherds Furever for their assistance in placing Allie. Owner’s Contact Information: Tara at taragargano@gmail.com.

Story
My name is Mako in Corinth, NY. I am 2 yrs old and here’s my Christmas wish list. - A home with lots of snuggles, treatos and toys. - My person to love me forever - A fenced yard I can play in. I love being outside. - Another dog friend to keep me company would be great. Although I am okay as a single dog too. A little more about me.. I’m a double Merle Australian shepherd. I’m a smaller guy at almost 40 pounds and I am partially blind. It does not hold me back though. I navigate new areas well, I just may occasionally bump into things that I can’t see in my peripheral. Oops it happens. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I am currently living with a foster doggy brother and sister who are bigger than me. I love playing with them. My foster parents also have a cat. I like her too. I lived with a cat and a smaller dog in my previous home. I can get a little grumbly towards the other dogs over bones. My foster mom just redirects me and then I’m back to being a good boy. I used a crate in my previous home but I’m also a good boy when left home alone outside of the crate. I have a crate available for comfort in my foster home but I haven’t needed it. Nobody’s perfect so I do have some basic skills I could work on like down and stay. I’m a master at sit though. 🤓 I won’t lie, I could use some help with walking on a leash too. I just get so excited! I am skittish around loud noises so I’d probably be most comfortable in a home with older kiddos. I’m a friendly guy and have loved everyone I’ve met so far! Do I sound like the perfect pup for you? If so, please fill out our application: https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application There is an additional $20 microchip fee which includes registration and transfer to my new furever family.

Our beautiful pup (8months old) is not happy in our home and nervous around our kids. Our youngest is also suffering with allergies which are getting worse. He would be a perfect dog for any owner or family with older kids.

Story
Asher is an extremely kind dog who does well with people, especially kids. I got Asher when he was only 2 months and he is now 1.5 years old. He’s taught me so much as a dog owner and I’m upset for even going through this process but my busy schedule and city life make it difficult for me to keep him. He deserves a home where he is able to get more attention - ideally a large family with lots of space for him to play.

Story
Emma is a sweet and super smart girl that has so much love to give. Emma has been living at the shelter since 2016, and it's about time this girl find her "furever" family. Emma loves going on long walks on nature trails, crushing an agility course, and of course, a nice petting session. Emma is the perfect balance of playful and couch potato; outside she can keep up with the best of them, but once she's inside, a couch and a soft blanket are all she needs to relax. She loves to cuddle up and get a belly rub! Emma is thrilled to meet all people, but she wants to be the only canine child in the household. **Reminder** We are facilitating adoptions by appointment ONLY. If you arrive at the shelter without an appointment we will not be able to accommodate you. Thank you for your understanding. Please call the shelter (516-869-6311) during working hours (Mon. to Fri. 9AM-4PM; Sat. 10AM-4PM) for more information about Emma, the adoption process at the shelter, and to confirm availability. Please go to www.theshelterconnection.org for more information about and directions to the shelter.
