daily walk and plenty of interactive playtime. Her family must be able and willing to provide this for her every day. 2. A small, playful dog of equal energy would be great for Bella. She enjoys playing with another dog and thoroughly enjoys other canine companionship. 3. A fenced yard would be a bonus, but is not a deal breaker. Because Bella loves to run and explore, she would enjoy a secure area in which to do so under supervision. 4. A family who is home much of the day and will include her in their daily activities. Bella attaches easily to her people and just wants to be with them. 5. An adults only family; children over the age of ten who understand how to interact gently with a small dog will be considered. 6. A family who will understand, be patient, and continue helping Bella with her house training. She is doing well while in foster care, but it is not guaranteed that she will be housetrained when she is adopted. 7. Adoptive family should live within 45 miles of the Twin City area so Bella’s foster mom can schedule a home visit. 8. Adoptive family must commit to attend the Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion of Minnesota held in September each year. Bella will be available for adoption near the end of November due to necessary upcoming surgeries. But applications for adoption are being accepted now. She is scheduled to be spayed November 11th. She is currently in heat, so her spay had to be postponed for two months for medical safety. At the time of her spay she will also have her left cherry eye repaired. as a red, swollen mass on the lower eyelid near the nose resembling a cherry. The official name is a prolapse of the third eyelid gland. To meet Bella, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see her and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at the Southtown PetCo in Bloomington, MN

In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Shih Tzu Rescue of MN has five adorable Shih Tzu/Poodle/Yorkie mix puppies who are now available for adoption. The puppies were born on October 9th. There are two female and 3 male puppies. Their mom Nova, along with their foster parents, has been taking excellent care of the pups and they are healthy and happy! All of the puppies are social, happy and playful. Mel has been the tiny sister since she was born! She always had to fight a little harder to get what she wants. She is now growing into a confident pup who knows what she wants! Mel is usually the first one to crawl into your lap for a snuggle. If there is another pet in the home, she would do best with one that is gentle and easy going. If you are interested in adopting Mel, please go to our website at shihtzurescuemn.org and fill out a puppy application. After you submit your application, we will contact you by email to confirm your application. If approved, your family will then be invited to a meet and greet to be held for approved applicants only. Here are the adoption requirements for adoption of one of the puppies: * Because Shih Tzus often live 16+ years, applications will only be considered from age appropriate individuals who will be able to provide the care and activity necessary for the rest of the dog’s life. * A puppy’s new home could be an adults only home, but could also include children who have been around small dogs and have learned appropriate behavior with small dogs. * A new family must commit to training their new puppy and providing opportunities for the puppy to become socialized to people and other dogs. * Please keep in mind that when training a puppy they need to be able to go outside every 2 to 3 hours. So the new family must be able to initially accommodate this schedule until the puppy can be left for a longer period of time. * Another small, playful dog in the home would be considered, but is not a requirement. * Before adoption the puppies will have their puppy vaccines. The adoption contract will require you that have your new pup spayed or neutered and provide verification that it has been done. * Must live within 40 miles of the Minneapolis and St Paul, MN area. * The new family must be willing to keep in touch and follow up with Shih Tzu Rescue of MN. We also ask adopters to attend our rescue’s Rescue Reunion held in September each year. The puppy’s adoption fee is $470.00 plus $40.07 sales tax. There is an additional spay/neuter deposit of $150.00 which will be refunded upon proof of the procedure. So the total amount due upon adoption is $660.07.

Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Starla is a confident, playful, and affectionate two year old, 16 pound Maltese-Shih Tzu mix with a heart full of love to give. Starla came into our rescue via another rescue in Iowa. It is thought that she was given up because she required hip surgery due to a previous injury, possibly being hit by a car. She’s adjusting well to her new foster home and is ready to find her forever family. Starla is confident, playful, and loving. She enjoys sitting on laps and is a true cuddle bug, always seeking close contact with her humans. Sleeping in bed with her family is heaven for her. She loves playing with other dogs and can be found whining trying to get her senior foster brother to play! Starla is an active girl who loves to play and engage with her family. She enjoys running around the yard and would thrive in a home where she can get plenty of exercise and stimulation. She does well with walks but is still learning proper leash manners. A fenced yard would be ideal for her to burn off some energy. Starla is doing great with house training but there may be some accidents as she adjusts to a new home. Starla knows a few commands like sit and stand. She’s very smart and quick to learn, making her a great candidate for further training. She would benefit from some behavioral training, but she is treat-motivated and eager to please. Starla would thrive in an active home, preferably with a family who enjoys outdoor activities. She will do well in a home with children over the age of ten who have had experience interacting with a small dog. She gets along well with other dogs and would love a small canine companion who has a similar energy level. Starla recently had successful hip surgery (femoral head and neck excision) and is recovering well. While she’s already bouncing around more than she should, she requires at-home therapy to support her recovery and won’t be available for adoption until the first week in February. But applications for her adoption are being accepted now. Depending on her stage of recovery, her new family may need to continue performing some in-home therapy after adoption. These are the requirements for Starla’s new home: · Starla needs a family who can provide her with plenty of daily exercise and playtime, including long walks. A secure fenced yard would be ideal. · A family who is home much of the day and will include Starla in their daily activities. · Starla recently had hip surgery and her new family may need to continue with in-home therapy for a while after her adoption. It is imperative that her new family commit to doing so. · A family with children over the age of ten who have had experience with a small dog will be considered. · Starla would enjoy another small playful dog in the family, but it is not a deal breaker. · Starla loves to cuddle and be near her people, and sleeping in bed at night with her family members is a must. · Hew new family should live within 30 miles of Roseville, MN and be willing to attend the annual Shih Tzu Rescue reunion every September. Starla is spayed, current on vaccinations, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. She may need to complete at-home therapy after her adoption depending on the healing of her hip and her new family must agree to do required exercises. Her adoption fee is $420.00 plus $35.81 in sales tax, for a total cost of $455.81. To meet Starla, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see her and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at the Southtown PetCo in Bloomington, MN.

Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Are you looking for a best friend? A sweet dog, that is adorable and just a little bit shy? If you are, I am your girl! My name is Daisy Mae. I am 5 years old, and weigh 8 pounds. Everyone thinks I am cute as I always wag my tail and will roll over for a tummy rub once I know you. Daisy came to our rescue after her owner passed away after a serious illness. This past year, Daisy spent all her time inside and had to rely exclusively on potty pads. Her foster mom is now frequently taking her outside for potty and Daisy is doing a well at learning to go “potty outside”. Daisy had a very sheltered but loving home before she came into rescue. Now she needs to learn to enjoy walks and outside activities, and to socialize with people and other dogs. Her future family must commit to providing time for Daisy’s outside experiences and socialization. Daisy is a bit shy at first, but as soon as she knows you all is well and she is very happy. Sitting by you on the couch or sleeping at the foot of your bed are Daisy’s favorite past times. Daisy has really benefited from having another small, calm dog in her foster home. So her foster mom is looking for a home that will give her a canine friend as a companion and to also help Daisy learn how to be a more confident dog. She needs a quiet, calm household with adults only. Daisy will be adopted to a family within the Twin Cities area, no more than 40 miles from Burnsville, MN. Daisy is a very special girl who wants a perfect home and family. In order to ensure that, here are the requirements that are required for her new family: • Daisy needs a family that is experienced with dogs and will continue to help her with training and socialization. This means time devoted to her socialization/training and learning other important doggy behaviors, such as leash walks outside, exposure to new, safe experiences, and lots of ear scratching and belly rubs. • Daisy’s new home should include another confident, small dog who will help her learn by being a role model and friend. • An adults only family that works from home or is home much of the day would be best for Daisy. • Daisy is not fully trained for going potty outside. Her new family needs to understand this and must take her out every couple hours during the day, although she can does not require this overnight. She will definitely want to sleep in bed with her new family as she loves to be near you! Daisy is not crate trained, but does just fine in a gated area when family is gone. • Daisy’s new family should live within 40 miles of Burnsville, MN and commit to attending the annual Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held each year in September. We understand there are quite a few requirements for Daisy’s new family. But if you meet the requirements, you will have abundant joy with this beautiful girl. Daisy just had a dental, is spayed, current on vaccinations, microchipped and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. Her adoption fee is $320.00 plus $27.28 in sales tax for a total of $347.28. To meet Daisy, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see her and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at the Southtown PetCo in Bloomington, MN.

Story
Every minute matters when it comes to rescuing a Shih Tzu.  We may get a short notice that someone needs to surrender their dog or a puppy mill dog needs a temporary home. We can’t help if we don’t have families willing to foster, and we are always in need of more foster homes! If you live in the Minneapolis/Saint Paul area and want to help save lives, please complete either our online Foster Sign-Up or download a word version here: http://www.northstarshihtzurescue.org/foster/ (please note: neither dog pictured are available to foster or adopt, both are in their forever homes) NorthStar Shih Tzu Rescue exists to benefit both Shih Tzu and Shih Tzu blend dogs and the people of our community. We operate as a no-kill rescue that provides rescue and adoption services, and meaningful outreach programs in order to advance the welfare of these companion animals, to serve and educate our community, and to make a positive, loving impact on the lives of both. NorthStar, located in Excelsior, MN, actively works to rescue Shih Tzu and Shih Tzu blend dogs from dangerous environments and shelters with the ultimate goal of placing them in loving, permanent, adoptive homes. We rescue unwanted, abandoned, and abused dogs. We have them vaccinated, micro-chipped, spayed or neutered, provide other medical care, and rehabilitate them in carefully selected foster homes. We also serve as a resource to our community and all pet owners by providing education and information on the benefits of adopting an animal in need as well as responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spay/neuter, good nutrition, and positive behavior training. We strive to increase public awareness about companion animal overpopulation, commercial breeders, and to offer solutions to end the killing of adoptable animals. We work in alliance with local animal shelters, pounds, other rescue groups, and humane society organizations to ensure these animals are not forgotten. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 1, 2024, 5:42 pm
