Story
Abby needed a home, so I agreed to take her. She was a rescue by an elderly couple and recently the wife had passed away. Abby is a very sweet quiet girl. She is 6 years old. She doesn't chew, bark and is not aggressive at all. She gets along with other dogs and she is very tender hearted. She is longing for acceptance into home that will live her. Abby pees in the kitchen on a rug at night. She does not seem to be able to go too many hours without being let out, although she tries. I do believe she may be lonely as she had a buddy in her previous home and I think she misses her friend and is lonely. Maybe her prior owners used pads with her that is unknown. She has scent hound in her and she follows her nose so she needs to be on a leash, if she doesn't have a fenced in area to be in. Looking for a good home for her, I have become attached to her but my husband is not wanting to have a dog right now.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Rowen came to us on 4/23/2022 from our friends at the Rescue Network after he was rescued from a reservation in South Dakota. He's now a long term resident who's been overlooked, which is a shame. Having been with us for so long, one of our volunteers was curious about his breed mix and decided to find out with a dog DNA test. He's a pit bull mix with about a quarter of German shepherd and his appearance does hint at these results. He's a big boy who's aged out of puppyhood, but is still a lot of fun and likes to play hard. Rowen loves people and would be a great walking/running companion. Rowen is fully vetted and his $125 adoption fee is sponsored. Rowen is doing really well with basic training but does forget his manners sometimes. He needs someone who is willing and able to provide him with the exercise he needs, along with consistent training and boundaries. He is strong and active. He's a happy and outgoing dog with a slight mischievous streak that is kinda endearing. Cats? Most likely a no for him. He's looking for an adult only home. Teens are fine. He will require regular exercise to keep him happy and well balanced. Story
Gunner is a great dog who isn't quite used to having little kids in his house. We recommend older children for him to be successful in a new home. Gunner is playful and loving. He gets along with other dogs but doesn't care for the cats much. Gunner is a bit of a parrot because he loves to lay on the back of whatever you're sitting on! He loves to be brushed and petted. :) You have to meet him to appreciate his quirky personality. Gunner has a bit of anxiety and would benefit from only having 1 other animal in the home or no other animals in the home. We feel he would also benefit from someone being home a majority of the time. He really is a good boy who just needs a chance to love someone. Gunner is microchipped and crate trained. He does howl once in a while in the night. :) Come meet him!

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Rudy, aka Rootin'Tootin'Rudy and the Rudinator, came to the shelter as an owner surrender on 11/6/2022. The woman had originally found him as a stray in a rural area. She was going to keep him as no owner was located. She decided that Rudy was just too energetic and strong for her to handle. He does have a slight impairment when it comes to his eyesight, perhaps due to an injury he sustained at one time or maybe a genetic thing. He has been vet checked and neutered and his fee is $125. Nothing slows Rudy down. He's a happy and rambunctious dude who literally bounces through life. He will need a lot of basic training and exercise. He keeps his kennel clean at the shelter. An adult only home would be best for Rudy (teens are okay). He is looking for a home with no other animals. A fenced yard would rock Rudy's world! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Forest is a wonderful work in progress. He is a mixed breed guy who has been with us since Dec., 2021. We didn't put him up for adoption right away as he was very shy and shutdown. Some of our wonderful volunteers have been working with him, taking baby steps, and we think he's ready to transition into a forever home. However it will have to be a very special, secure, and patient home. Forest has been fully vetted and his fee of $125 is sponsored. Forest originally came to rescue from a Reservation in South Dakota. He was on the run for quite a while before he was live trapped. He's a mature adult who could now be close to 7 years old. He is still extremely shy but responds well to treats and kind words. He's learning to go for walks and enjoys it. We think he would be okay with a well mannered, somewhat confident dog. Due to his shy nature, he's looking for an experienced ADULT only home (teens are fine). We have no way of knowing about cats. SECURELY FENCED YARD REQUIRED. NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications can be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. Story
Toby is looking for a patient home. He was picked up as a stray and never reclaimed. He was terrified in the shelter and hid under his kuranda bed most of the time. He is scared at his foster as well, but not as much. He's coming out of his shell. He loves the other dogs but doesn't seem very fond of cats. He's scared of doorways and sometimes people. He will follow the other dogs around though. He is fixed and utd on shots. Also, he is microchipped.
