Story
Foster update: Bean is such a happy soul, there isn’t a mean bone in his body. He is an absolute baby who loves everyone and everything. He loves on and kisses his foster parents and the other dogs in the home; this boy is all heart. Bean is the best-behaved dog - he is learning basic commands, has a calm energy, loves to nap on his dog bed, and loves attention! Bean learns very quickly and is food motivated. Once he knows the routine and what is expected, he does not push boundaries - he is eager to please and craves affection. Bean is smart and enjoys food puzzles and games. He LOVES toys and carries one in his mouth when he’s excited, feeling happy, or when it’s time for breakfast/dinner. Most of all, Bean loves his people and wants to be with his pack. He is a cuddler and shares space and affection with other dogs in the home. Bean would benefit from another playful dog in his new home since he adores his canine friends, and is submissive. I can take toys, food, and bones away from him, no issues. He takes food from our hands very gently, with nice manners. Waits patiently for his meals and hasn't shown any resource guarding. For the first few weeks, Bean was nervous about going into a crate. We crate 2 days a week, just to get him used to it if his forever family needs to use one. He did great once he was in, it was just the going in part he didn’t like. I throw a treat in every time he goes in, and now he walks in confidently on his own! Not one peep from him when he’s crated. Bean does great being left alone without issues (crated or not).
Bean will need to work on leash manners, based on his size (70 pounds) and strength. We have started to condition/expose him to a gentle leader rather than collar and leash and this should help! When I've taken him to tractor supply and parks, he does great! Enjoys meeting other people and dogs, and is easy-going about it. Also enjoys car rides! Bean is aware of what is happening around him, and keeps an eye on the property/perimeter. He alerts to people who come to the home/driveway. What more could you ask for?! This handsome boy is extremely friendly and ready for his new home.
Bean is a 3-yr old Boxer mix whose time was up at a southern shelter. Because he was such a great boy and a shelter favorite he needed a ticket out. Bean is a super sweet and goofy boy. Not only is he housebroken but he is great with dogs, kids and cats. He is fostered in Newport ME.
Bean foster update:
Bean LOVES to play with toys and carries one in his mouth at all times!! He does settle when he needs to and loves to cuddle. He has so much love to give, he's such a happy soul. He is pretty bomb proof - not scared of sounds or new things. Bean would REALLY benefit from another big dog to play with in his new home. He really loves other dogs, and seems submissive when it comes to play.
I can take toys and bones away from him, no issues. He hides his bones, which is cute. He takes food from our hands very gently, nice manners. Waits patiently for his meals and hasn't shown any issues with food sharing or handling. I don't see signs of resource guarding so far.
Bean doesn't like going INTO a crate, but once he's in, he's fine.
Bean will need work on leash manners, but I think he would do much better using a gentle leader rather than collar, based on his size and strength! When I've taken him on car rides or in public, he does great!!
He knows his name and knows the word "ball". Plays fetch very well! We are working on "sit".
He does jump up gently for affection and to lick us all over neck/hands. He's so desperate for love, but too big to jump, so we're working with him on that.
Bean is a great dog and can be left alone without issues. He stays close to people and hasn't tried to chase the deer and birds in the backyard. Watches life quietly with curiosity. So far not a barker at all.
If you are looking for a big, gentle, and playful boy who would love you forever, he's your guy!
