Story
Hello, Annie is around 6 months old and is very friendly and cuddly. She loves to run and play and is great with kids and my German Shepherd. She follows me around the yard and listens to commands.(She doesn't chase stray cats or other people who walk past our house). We are fostering her from someone who wasn't able to keep her due to medical issues. We hope to find her a loving home and family. Thanks for your time.

Story
Hi, I'm Jack! I'm an 12 year old (mostly) Lab, looking to become part of a family and provide them with lots of love and companionship. My foster says I have a great personality and easy-going nature. I'm hoping to find a family that will provide a safe fenced yard for me to run around in, but I also enjoy long walks and do well on a leash. My foster will tell you how quiet I am, and while I don't like vacuum cleaners or the sound of lawn mowers, I'm not scared during thunderstorms or 4th of July fireworks. I do have to see my 'dog'tor a lot, but I am a really good patient! She calls me a lemon, but I just don’t see the resemblance to the yellow fruit. Unfortunately, I'm allergic to a lot of stuff, so I have to get allergy meds and shots, and I eat a special dog food. No matter how cute I make myself look, I do not get any treats, because my foster and 'dog'tor say they will make me itchy. I'm a really good boy for getting my paws wiped when I come inside, because the grass can make my feet itchy when my allergies are bad. Sometimes my ears get really uncomfortable and I have to get them checked, cleaned and medicated. I have had some painful infections in the past, so my ears can be sensitive. I'm housebroken and good about signaling when I need to go outside, but it would be great to have my own doggie door so I can go outside on my own. I’m embarrassed to say that I do have accidents on occasion; my old bladder can’t always hold it until I can get outside, so hard floors and puppy pads are my friends. I know and follow a few commands and I get along fine with kids, cats and kittens, but I'm not much for getting along with other dogs. Most important, I'm calm and loving and I very much like to snuggle! Even though I need a bit of extra help, I have more than enough love to give to make upfor it. My foster or 'dog'tor can tell you more about what I need to support me in my golden years. I'm one of the sweetest dogs you will ever meet. I look forward to meeting you and showing you how much love and companionship I have to offer! Shadow is the name. Pleased to meet you! I'm working on this whole civilized world thing. I roamed the countryside for around 6 months before some kind people managed to catch me. I knew all that free food had to be a trap! Turns out, getting caught hasn't been all bad. I live in a house now with 2 meals every day! Did you know that there were these things called belly rubs? I like to get them while lounging in my foster human's lap. I even like sitting in a recliner when I'm the only one in it. I'm getting pretty good at making new friends, but I need it to go a little slower with other male dogs. I learned house training fast - my new dog friends really helped with learning the housedog lifestyle. I still need to work on not being so nervous when a leash comes out. Oh, and I should probably tell that I'm a pretty high-energy kind of guy. I'm sure I'd do best in a furever home that has another dog and a fenced yard. No cats though, please! Well, that's enough about me for now. Maybe someday we can meet! Story
Hi there, my name is Nanette Marie, but you can call me Marie! I’m a 9 yr old, 18 lb. spayed Rat Terrier, but don’t let my age fool you, I’m full of life and love to play fetch with my toys. My foster mom says I’m a very well behaved little girl and know sit, stay, no, toy, and a few others. While I would love to sleep in bed with you, and will cover myself up if you provide me with a little light blanket, I can be persuaded to sleep in a crate. In fact, if you leave the crate door open, I will often go inside during the day to nap on my bed. Foster mom introduced me to some full grown (inside) cats and dogs and I did quite well. I didn’t bark or chase them, but it would take a few days or so to get fully acquainted with them. Being a Rat Terrier, I’m not sure how I would be with little pets such as gerbils etc., and I certainly would go after a wild rabbit out in the yard. Heck, I even tried to go after a wild turkey that strutted through mom’s front yard - that was fun! I like to sit in my foster mom’s lap and stare into her eyes, but I don’t try to lick her face, even when she gives me head kisses. I’ve never had an accident in the house nor have I torn anything up, even when she leaves me to go to town to shop once a week for 3 to 5 hours; she just makes sure to let me go potty before she leaves. I do have a very special need to keep me healthy and safe. I'm a type 1 diabetic and must have insulin twice a day. I require glucose testing (like a human diabetic), measured food and then an insulin shot every 12 hours. And please, no table scraps! While I don’t require a prescription or expensive food, I do have to have one that is low in fat and weighed out so that I get the exact amount at each meal. Foster mom has been working with me for several months to help teach me how to behave when she tests me, feeds me and then gives me my shot. I do quite well, even if I say so myself! She even gives me a green bean as a treat for being such a good girl. Although, it can take a little bit for someone to learn how to treat and learn my diabetes routine, once you get the hang of it, it only takes about 5 minutes twice a day to accomplish. Otherwise, I’m pretty much like any other furbaby. My foster mom can tell you all about it and even direct you to a great group of diabetic moms and dads online that can help you keep me safe and healthy. She tells me that most dogs can live a normal lifespan if properly treated. She can tell you all about it. Story
Hi there, I’m MooMoo! Despite my name and my unique markings, I’m all dog — a 14-pound, 3-year-old Chihuahua mix looking for a special home where I can feel safe, loved, and understood. I’m a bit of a shy guy at first, so I need some time to come out of my shell. Once I feel secure, I’ll be your most loyal companion! I’m cautious around strangers and I’m not afraid to voice my opinions, so an apartment is not ideal for me. My foster has noticed I heavily prefer women, so I’d love to find a 1-2 person household with a kind lady to take care of me. It takes me quite a bit of time to warm up to people, especially men, so I need a laid back home. Since young children can be a little overwhelming and loud, I’m looking for a home without them, and I’d probably be happiest as the only dog. I’ve grown really attached to my foster mom and can be wary of new people, so I’m not the type of dog to spread my love around easily. Instead, I prefer to devote all my attention and affection to my “chosen person”—you’ll be my whole world once we bond! During the day, I love exploring my fenced yard, sunbathing on the porch, and sitting by the window watching the world go by. I also enjoy going on walks with my foster mom and curling up for long naps in bed. Once I settle into a routine, I’m a pretty low-maintenance and laid-back pup. I’m tidy around the house, eat throughout the day, and rarely have accidents inside as long as I stick to a routine and feel comfortable in my home. I am familiar with the crate and spend time in there when my foster mom is away, but she doesn’t consider me ‘crate trained’ because I don’t have a command and sometimes put up a protest at first. While I’m not a huge fan of traditional dog toys, I love a good lick mat or food puzzle — I could spend hours enjoying those! If you’re patient, understanding, and ready to meet your new best friend, I might be just the dog you’re looking for! As long as you let me take things at my own pace, I promise to give you all my love and devotion. Story
Courtesy Post* Tonka here, but I go by Tonkie, Honky Tonk, Tonka Truck, Honk or Tonk. Your choice, but I kinda also choose when to listen. I’m not sure what she means by it, but my mom tells me I’m a “classic husky.” There’s a lot to know about me, but some of the most important things are: I love to play, especially with my dog siblings and friends and I love playing with toys that squeak and I can destuff. I go to day care every day, it’s one of my favorite places to be. I have ALOT of energy and I’m very athletic and sometimes that gets me in a little trouble. Apparently it’s not okay to jump my backyard fence to go find new friends to play with. I don’t see an issue with it, a girl is just trying to have fun, but my mom tells says that isn’t safe. When it’s time to relax I have a couple spots I like to do that at. My favorite is my backyard; I love being outdoors, whether it’s to play or sleep. If I’m really sleepy, I like my spot on the couch or in the hall way. I form strong habits and do well with a consistent home and schedule. Change can be very upsetting for me. I can be very shy with new people, especially men, and typically will find my person and they are really the only person that I let pet me. I’m not mean, just wary of strangers and don’t make easy friends with humans. It makes me very anxious when people are at my house, I prefer to just go lay by my tree in the backyard when mom has guests. I don’t love being left alone, but I am getting better. If mom is home I do not want to be in my kennel and I will let her know, but if she’s gone I can settle and rest for a little bit. It helps to have my sisters around. One thing that has changed for me recently is I’m not allowed to be around my cat siblings anymore. If you apply to adopt me my mom will tell you more, but I cannot go into a home with anything small and furry. I would really love a larger dog sibling though. I lived with kids when I was growing up, but based off of what my mom knows about me, and she knows me best, she doesn’t think that young children would be a good fit for my new home. I do have a few things behavior-wise that I’m still working on. I am an escape artist, with kennels and fences. I have a kennel that looks pretty different from my sisters. I don’t love being in there so I will chew at the bars, I’m getting better with blankets though. I struggle to alert to needing to go outside to potty, and if I’m left alone when I get the need to go, I will potty inside. I struggle with boundaries when it comes to human food, it’s just so good. I can be a little protective over my toys when it comes to other dogs; nothing major, but I let them know I don’t want to share. I'm on the more confident and dominant side when it comes to my interactions with most other dogs, although in my current house I know I’m not top dog and I do just fine. Just as a quick synopsis here are my wants, as well as can’t haves for my new home: Wants: active, outdoor lifestyle, medium or bigger sized housemate, female as a main care taker, patience and dedication to work through behavioral problems, backyard - must be supervised and experience with Nordic breeds Can'ts: cats, small dogs, pocket pets, children under 12 years old, apartments or wolfdog restrictions. *Courtesy posting is a service RCHS provides to our community members who need to rehome an animal.
