Story
Winnie is a beautiful pitty girl looking for a particular home. She came to us after being found living in an abandoned van in a junkyard. She was thin and not in the best shape after fending for herself on the streets, She was under-socialized and unsure about people. We were not sure if she would be adoptable. After many weeks working with Winnie, she had her favorite people she was eager to please, but still struggled with more than one human at a time, and showed some nervous behaviors. After consulting with our vet, we decided to try Prozac, which has worked wonders for our Winnie girl! Winnie would do best in a home with an owner who is educated about the stigma pit bulls face in society, and who can make sure she has a spot in their home and family for her entire life anyways. She would prefer an adult only home, without other animals, that is willing to make her the “kiddo” of the family. Winnie does not seem to be a big fan of children and we will not adopt her into a home with children of any any age or regular kiddo visitors. She will need continued training and to stay on Prozac or to consult with your own vet about alternative anxiety medications that can help her continue to live her best life. Winnie loves walks in the world, creek stomping, car rides, snuffle mats, and things she can chew. She has done well here going outside if let out on regular schedule and doesn’t destroy her furniture in her room. She will destroy stuffies and sissy toys with glee. Winnie is looking for a human who wants a loyal best friend that doesn’t have a perfect past, but is committed to a beautiful forever.

Story
We rescued Doyle from our local shelter as we suspected an obstruction. He received surgery, in which several things were found, including foam and screws. He has recovered nicely from the procedure and has gained over 20lbs! He has had no interested in eating anything other than food since his surgery. We suspect he was starved, and resorted to eating whatever he could find at the time. Doyle is delightful, friendly and low energy. He has no clue that he doesn't fit in your lap, and wants nothing more than to flop his body all over you in lovings! If you have kids, we would recommend children over the age of 10, as he is a big boy!

Story
Big Mama came to us during a large hoarding case, where we took in 20+ animals. We called her Big Mama, as it was thought she was pregnant, and fed her as such. Turns out, she was NOT pregnant, and had to lose some weight. Over time she has been on a low calorie (supplemented with green beans) diet, exercise, and has lost a lot of weight! She is a stout, friendly, happy girl. She loves everyone, toys, walks, and being next to you. She also loves her crate! Is housetrained when she is able to go out often. Owners would have to stick to her diet and exercise to make her most comfortable.

Story
Danny Lee is a whippet mix. He came to us as a crisis response foster when he and his human were living outside in freezing weather. Danny loves other dogs, but despite his petite size is a strong and avid wrestling champion. He does best with dogs that have similar play styles and are good dog communicators. Danny has done really well on housebreaking, but does sometimes backslide when stressed. He needs a home that has a schedule/routine and is ok working with him while he learns he’s safe and home. He’s had a tough background and come so far - and is a complete love. He likes his toys, and giving kisses. He’s one of the fastest runners we’ve seen, and can also jump high. When he’s all done playing likes to sit directly at your side or in your lap. When Danny is excited you’re home, and is ready to go out, he is vocal. He would prefer a family who will make sure his exercise and socializing needs are met, and that has another dog, or will consider adopting him with his best friend. They should be patient and love active and intelligent dogs that need the mind worked with the body. He’s been around all people, all ages, and has done well. We do not know about cats but do not recommend.

Story
Kade is a one year old Goldendoodle. He arrived at SOAR when he escaped from a new family that purchased him from a breeder. Instead of waiting for him to be safely returned, they bought another pup from the same breeder. One of our partners rescued Kade after tracking his movements over time outside. He was surrendered to the shelter, where we pulled him. Kade likes other dogs, big and small, and has found a best friend here in another dog, Bubba. He is housed with a crew of dogs of all ages and types. We think he would do well with or without another dog. Kade has been around humans of all ages and sizes, and does fine. Because of his experience as a pup, he still sometimes lacks confidence. He prefers a family who thrives with structure and daily/weekly routine, so he knows what to expect and what happens next in his day. Kade would like to be included in family activities, and likes people who are gentle and patient, so he can continue to grow into a confident boy. He is flight risk until he knows his people, so will require a secure and fenced yard. He has been joining our dog walker and does excellently on a leash. He’s very sweet, and once you’re his person, likes to snuggle and gives little small kisses. Kade has done well crated here, and goes potty outside using a crate. Our team has recently started working with him to be left free-roaming in his space as well. Kade requires grooming every 6-8 weeks, so adopters should be aware of that financially.
