Story
Meet our sweet Abril!    Abril is wonderful companion for any owner who is looking to add a single dog to their home. Abril seeks out pets, play time and love. She's a great leaner while you shower her with pets and lovins. Abril will impress you with her devotion and love. Our sweet Abril does require a home where she is the only dog, and definitely no cats. Despite how sweet she is, she is not a fan of other furry siblings. A secured fence is best as well.  Abril will ask that you help her with her fear of loud noises and fireworks, and in exchange she'll shower you with love and devotion.  You won't be disappointed when you fill out your application for this wonderful girl. Can you help heal her broken heart? Abril is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested negative and microchipped.  If you are interested in Abril, please email dogs@heartlandsmallanimalrescue.org or you can access an online application at www.heartlandsmallanimalrescue.org/canine-application.html ##55138##

Story
Zeus is 10-11 years old and weighs about 125 pounds. This guy is definitely not for everyone: as a Bullmastiff he is naturally suspicious of anyone and anything that might be a threat to his special person or his territory; he has some triggers from his past life that can cause him to misinterpret innocent motions as threatening, so care must always be taken when handling him; he is well past the normal lifespan of his breed and has the intervetrebral disk disease and spinal arthritis to show for it; and he requires a twice daily thyroid pill. However, his aches and pains are readily managed with standard medications, he adores his somewhat ponderous walk each morning, and treats and meals still give him a thrill. For obvious reasons, this big guy should not live with children or in an apartment, but a single person who is experienced with oversized, somewhat cranky dogs could be considered as an adopter. Zeus should have at least a modest-sized fenced yard to snuffle around in and, If he lives with any other animals, he must have his own separate space.   If you are viewing this pet's profile on Petfinder or Adopt-a-Pet,.please use the application link at the bottom of the profile to apply. Story
“He wants to be King but for now he’s just a Prince” Prince is a 10 year old Min Pin mix. He weighs around 25 pounds. Don’t let his age fool you he still has a lot of energy, he runs, likes to go for walks and car rides. Prince gets along with most dogs, but may take a while to warm up to them. He cannot live with cats due to the fact he likes to chase them and would make their life miserable.Prince was adopted about seven years ago and recently returned due to the family moving. He is back with his original foster and is pretty happy, but he really misses his family. Prince would do best as the only dog. A quiet home, a retired person that will love and pamper him and make him king of the house. If you’re considering adopting, please read the following before making that decision. Prince is all male, and likes to lift his legs on everything. A belly band should be used until he knows everything is his. He is also food aggressive with other dogs, but not with people. He has selected hearing and when he chooses he does obey commands. So Prince is not perfect but all in all he is a great little dog! All dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested negative (age 7 months and older) and microchipped. We do not ship or transport. A dog's adoption donation is $100. There is a $5 fee for credit/debit cards. Story
Poppy, 10+ yrs. old, 10lbs, Male, Chihuahua mix, established potty habits, crate trained Poppy came into foster care a timid and underweight little guy. Throughout his stay he has gained both weight and confidence. Although he is still unsure sometimes he regularly seeks out affection and continues to grow each day. Poppy does suffer from seizures, but his condition has improved greatly with medication and are now a very rare occassion. Our best guess is they are at least partially stress induced. Poppy does well enough with other dogs, but due to his age doesn't engage with them, cats are unknown and due to his size small children should be avoided. Poppy lives for food, tv watching and a good fluffy bed. He's a low maintenance lilttle guy who would do well in most homes.   If you are viewing this pet's profile on Petfinder or Adopt-a-Pet,.please use the application link at the bottom of the profile to apply.
