Story
Buddy is a good boy! He is a mutt through and through, with a DNA test showing he is a mix of several different breeds. He's just under 50 lbs. Buddy was born to our rescue on 07/04/2020 and adopted out as a puppy. He was recently returned and it broke his heart. Buddy was adopted out to a home with other dogs and after a few years started not getting along with them so well. His dad's schedule changed and he was not home so much anymore, and Buddy just lost his way in the pack. When we were contacted about him being returned, in an effort to keep him in the only home he'd known for years, we sent a trainer to work with his family. Our trainer immediately knew Buddy wasn't dog aggressive, he simply lacked confidence and didn't know his place in the pack. We hoped the family would continue with training, but he was returned to us. It took him about 2 weeks to start coming out of his funk, he was shut down and depressed initially. Buddy is not even close to being a difficult dog. He would absolutely benefit from taking a class to boost his confidence (which we will pay for with an approved adoption). People don't realize how much dogs need leadership and structure! That's all this sweet boy needs. He's housebroken, knows basic commands, he's not destructive and he's fine being left alone, he enjoys playing with toys, overall he's pretty unassuming and what we would consider a low maintenance dog! He's neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, etc. His adoption fee is $250.

Story
Fred! Our sweet, always smiling Fredly. He's such a good boy! Fred was left at a very crowded shelter with all of his (adult) littermates and was the only one to make it out alive :( What we know about Fred since he's been in our care is that he can be resource guard-y with other dogs, NOT with people. We have always been able to take food/toys away from him. He is fine with cats (actually they tend to bully him). He can be a bit nervous with new people, especially men, but honestly it takes him all of 24-48 hours to warm up and then he's a velcro dog! Never wants to leave your side! He is not destructive and is content to just curl up and sleep in bed while you are at work. He is a wonderful cuddler, his head feels like velvet, and he's just a doll of a 53# mutt. No idea what breeds he is, he's just a perfect muttly mix. Fred is almost 3 years old and just waiting for his forever person/family to find him.

Story
Tito is seriously about as handsome as it gets, and just as sweet! He is 2.5 years old and just a beautiful soul. He is shy with new people, and we believe he'll do best as the only pet. He needs to build some confidence to get over his fear of "new," but he warms up quickly and oh my goodness, you just won't find a more loving and snuggly cuddle buddy. He is just an absolute doll who wants to be loved. He is fully vetted and his adoption fee is $250.

Story
Ryder is a truly special boy. He's a Dogo Argentino. His front legs are extremely deformed and we call him Jelly Legs. We've been down this road before (some of you may remember our original Wonky Legs, aka Jem). We figured we'd be taking on a major medical case, have to do lots of fundraising, but we'd find a way to "fix" his legs if possible. Well, months later, our sweet Jelly Legs is always going to remain Jelly Legs. We have consulted with some of the top orthopedic teams in the country, and the answers have always been the same. It boils down to this: "...feel that any surgery options he has would only have very minimal impact on his lameness and would do little to slow the progression of his arthritis. He may also require several surgeries to achieve even minimal improvement. Essentially, the surgical process and recovery would not outweigh the benefit." All of the teams have been lovely and we really appreciate their input and their honesty that surgery wouldn't have the outcome we hoped for. And so, we move on and look to Ryder's future! He does not act as if he's in pain, but he has to be - at the very least - in a measure of discomfort. This bubs never lets on though. He's such a happy-go-lucky lovebug! Because of his legs, he can't really hold a bone or toy in between his front paws, like you've seen a million dogs do. His foster mama will sit with him on the couch and hold a bone for him, and he will happily gnaw away on it for an hour while she watches TV or reads a book. He still loves to play, he LOVES to give kisses, he loves to cuddle. He's such a handsome guy! We asked Ryder for his wishlist and here was his response: - Need to be the one and only pet - Carpet is nice but not a requirement! It's so much easier for me to navigate (even walking outside, I prefer to walk on the grass over the sidewalk, more cush for my joints) - No more than 3 steps to get in and out of the house is also ideal, stairs aren't my friend - I gets vocal when I'm lonely. I can howl with the best of them. I'm not at all destructive, but I'd be sad with someone who was gone 10 hours a day - Cheese. I need lots of cheese. - A dad with a bald head would be ideal. Polishing my foster dad's noggin is my favorite pastime. - I may weigh 85 lbs, but I'm a lapdog. Yes, I am. I fit, I swear. - I love to give kisses, it's my favorite Ryder is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and in much better health than when he came to us. He and his brother were found in an abandoned building in Chicago Heights, with some severe skin infections and grossly underweight. This boy looks SO much better than he did, and he really is a happy and healthy guy. He doesn't let birth defect get him down at all! His adoption fee is $250.

Story
KC Miller is the best good boy! He initially came to us in January of 2021 from an overcrowded shelter when he was put on the euthanasia list. He was adopted out and had a dad who loved him very, very much. Imagine our shock and sadness when we recently got a call from Gary Animal Control that they had KC Miller! Unfortunately, his dad had passed away. So terribly sad, and so devastating for KC. But thank goodness for microchips, as they were able to contact us and we went and got him out of AC immediately! So now we are once again trying to find this guy a forever home. Back in 2021, he was a husky's husky. What do we mean by that? No dog, and I mean NO DOG, has ever been a bigger escape artist (in our experience) than KC. He had to be supervised at all times. Oh, the stories we could tell (like the time he got out of the yard and wandered into a stranger's home as they were bringing groceries in from the car, just walked in like he owned the place!) Now that he has matured some (he will be 5 years old this summer), he seems to have settled down quite a bit and doesn't seem quite as keen on adventures - which doesn't mean he wouldn't go on one if he was given the opportunity :) He is just as friendly with people and with other dogs as he ever was. When he was fostered with us initially, he used to go to doggy daycare and he loved it! Now he is fostered with other dogs and we've had him at adoption events with other dogs and he's still just as happy. Probably a bit TOO interested in the kitties, though. He's a very, very sweet boy. KC is incredibly smart and affectionate to boot. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, on heartworm/flea/tick prevention. His adoption fee is $250.
