Story
Petunia is around 3 years old. She came from TX to a shelter in Portland, Oregon, where my son adopted her. He lives in a very busy area, a lot of foot traffic. Petunia has anxiety - she is scared of strangers, cars, outside noises (when she is outside) so taking her for walks was/is a challenge. In Portland, she enjoyed visits to dog parks and played well with other dogs. She came to me in October 2024 as both my son and I thought she would thrive in a suburban setting with a back yard to alleviate her anxiety on walks. She has a congenital condition where lymphatic fluid pools in her right front leg. This is stable. She is not a dog who cuddles, she is more like a cat - she comes to you when she wants attention. She loves to fetch, but doesn't always bring it back. She is vigilant and spends hours looking out the window at all that is happening in the neighborhood, She needs to be the only pet in the house.

Story
Diesel was adopted last April in Lawrence, Kansas at just 8 weeks old from a humane society. The litter was 12 pups from a Catahoula Leopard mother, (given his brown merle coat). Diesel is now almost 11 months old and has his first birthday coming up on February 4th! We have all original birth documents, vet records, and microchip information. Currently, I am moving into a new job which will require travel to different states frequently. My mother is no longer willing to take care of him when I am not around. I dont want to do this, but I know this is whats best for him. Diesels traits: Very energetic, friendly, loving, confident, plays rough, can be reactive to different animals/people on walks Ideal home: Someone with an active lifestyle, spends time at home, has a family, space for him to run, commitment to training What I will provide: Vax records, food/toys/crate, guide to his favorite things

Story
To know Nina is to love Nina! She is the sweetest gal, she loves love! Nina has been with us for 5 years and is a ball of love! Nina has many wonderful qualities, I believe she would thrive better in a home that she will receive all the time and attention that she deserves. She is approximately 5 years old, spayed, house trained. She is loving, affectionate with people, and enjoys walks, cuddles, car rides, etc. Nina has lived with a small dog and cat; however we feel with an experienced adopter she may be open to gain more social skills with other furfriends. She has some anxiety and would love a solo owner but under the right circumstance and being well managed; we think she can flourish! We would prefer a family that is an experienced dog owner. Unfortunately, I am not in a position to continue providing the environment she requires, which is why I am reaching out for assistance. I want to ensure she has the best possible chance at a safe and happy life.

Story
Jinx is a sweet, loving, and well-behaved puppy with a heart full of joy and a personality that truly shines. She’s already showing what a wonderful companion she’ll grow up to be. With her soft brown coat and those expressive eyes, it’s impossible not to smile when you look at her—honestly, her name could just as easily be Joy. Jinx came to us as an owner surrender with another pup and has adjusted beautifully to her new environment. She’s great with other dogs and is always trying to convince them to play—often hopping and gliding around the yard like a little baby deer. She’s also been introduced to children ages 4–10 and has done wonderfully, making her a fantastic candidate for a family with kids. This girl loves to play and run outside, but she’s just as happy curling up for a nap on the couch or floor afterward. She has a very balanced personality: playful, gentle, and affectionate. Jinx is sweet, loyal, and loving, and she truly aims to please her people. Jinx is currently working on basic training, including sit, and is also in the process of crate training—she’s learning, though it’s still a work in progress. She doesn’t love being alone and would thrive in a home where she has companionship, whether from people or other pets. If you’re looking for a cuddly, playful, and devoted pup to grow with your family, Jinx would make an amazing lifelong companion. Looking for a cuddly cuddle bug to complete your home? Story
Meet Peanut Butter! Peanut Butter is a female pit mix with a stunning red, chestnut, orange coat and the most irresistible floppy ears and big puppy eyes. She is truly the cutest baby and has a way of melting hearts the moment you meet her. Peanut Butter came to Chicago Animal Care and Control when her owners were no longer able to care for her. Despite the change, she has shown nothing but joy, resilience, and a huge love for life. She wants to be every dog’s annoying little sister, even though she thinks that means instant best friend. She is playful, social, and full of puppy enthusiasm. Peanut Butter would likely do very well with kids and would love being a companion, cuddle buddy, and playmate. Older kids would be ideal since she is a rambunctious girl who does not quite realize her size yet. Peanut Butter lives every day with maximum excitement and joy. She is energetic, silly, and full of puppy antics, then happily curls up on top of you under a blanket to recharge. An active family who enjoys walks, playtime, fetch, and continuing her training would be a great match for her. She is very smart and extremely treat motivated, which makes her eager and easy to train. She already knows sit and bed, and she is currently working on down. She is spayed and continuing to work on her crate training. Peanut Butter has so much love to give and brings laughter wherever she goes. Sweet, goofy, intelligent, and affectionate, she is best described as an adorable sour patch kid who will be an absolute joy in the right home. Looking for a playful cuddle bug to complete your home? Story
If you don't see a dog currently with Players for Pits that interests you, please consider fostering. There are over 300 amazing dogs at Chicago Animal Care and Control (the shelter most our adoptable dogs come from) and we can match you with a good fit. The rescue covers the cost of all vetting and supplies needed for fostering and we will connect you with a support system of team members/volunteers from our rescue so you are not alone in the process. Fostering saves lives! When you decide to foster, you are temporarily opening your home up to a dog in need who may otherwise have been euthanized. We have many teirs of fosters. The first is "revolving fosters" meaning they take on one or two dogs at a time and when that dog or dog(s) get adopted, they get ready for a new foster to keep to cycle of saving lives going! Another large part of our rescue is Vacation Fosters who do short term fostering. To foster for us, we currently require you be within an hour of Roselle, Illinois where our main vet is located. But if you live out of state or too far, there will be a rescue local to you that could use your help! To register to foster with us, please start by doing a "Foster Sign Up" linked below. This will give us a brief summary of who you are without wasting your time in case you are too far or may be a better fit for another rescue. To sign up, visit https://www.playersforpits.com/foster or contact info@playersforpits.com for more information.
