Story
Petunia is around 3 years old. She came from TX to a shelter in Portland, Oregon, where my son adopted her. He lives in a very busy area, a lot of foot traffic. Petunia has anxiety - she is scared of strangers, cars, outside noises (when she is outside) so taking her for walks was/is a challenge. In Portland, she enjoyed visits to dog parks and played well with other dogs. She came to me in October 2024 as both my son and I thought she would thrive in a suburban setting with a back yard to alleviate her anxiety on walks. She has a congenital condition where lymphatic fluid pools in her right front leg. This is stable. She is not a dog who cuddles, she is more like a cat - she comes to you when she wants attention. She loves to fetch, but doesn't always bring it back. She is vigilant and spends hours looking out the window at all that is happening in the neighborhood, She needs to be the only pet in the house.

Story
Otis is such a sweet boy. We believe he is somewhere around 7-8 years old, weighs approximately 80lbs, and is a Boxer mix of some kind. We are only looking to rehome him because our youngest daughter (who was born after we got Otis) is allergic to dogs. Otis is very gentle and easy going, is great with kids, adults, other dogs, and cats (although he is very interested them when first meeting). We have not done any formal training other than at home, he does know basic commands. It breaks our hearts to give him up, but we would take great comfort in knowing he would go to a loving family.

Story
To know Nina is to love Nina! She is the sweetest gal, she loves love! Nina has been with us for 5 years and is a ball of love! Nina has many wonderful qualities, I believe she would thrive better in a home that she will receive all the time and attention that she deserves. She is approximately 5 years old, spayed, house trained. She is loving, affectionate with people, and enjoys walks, cuddles, car rides, etc. Nina has lived with a small dog and cat; however we feel with an experienced adopter she may be open to gain more social skills with other furfriends. She has some anxiety and would love a solo owner but under the right circumstance and being well managed; we think she can flourish! We would prefer a family that is an experienced dog owner. Unfortunately, I am not in a position to continue providing the environment she requires, which is why I am reaching out for assistance. I want to ensure she has the best possible chance at a safe and happy life.

Story
If you don't see a dog currently with Players for Pits that interests you, please consider fostering. There are over 300 amazing dogs at Chicago Animal Care and Control (the shelter most our adoptable dogs come from) and we can match you with a good fit. The rescue covers the cost of all vetting and supplies needed for fostering and we will connect you with a support system of team members/volunteers from our rescue so you are not alone in the process. Fostering saves lives! When you decide to foster, you are temporarily opening your home up to a dog in need who may otherwise have been euthanized. We have many teirs of fosters. The first is "revolving fosters" meaning they take on one or two dogs at a time and when that dog or dog(s) get adopted, they get ready for a new foster to keep to cycle of saving lives going! Another large part of our rescue is Vacation Fosters who do short term fostering. To foster for us, we currently require you be within an hour of Roselle, Illinois where our main vet is located. But if you live out of state or too far, there will be a rescue local to you that could use your help! To register to foster with us, please start by doing a "Foster Sign Up" linked below. This will give us a brief summary of who you are without wasting your time in case you are too far or may be a better fit for another rescue. To sign up, visit https://www.playersforpits.com/foster or contact info@playersforpits.com for more information.

Story
We love Ivy! Ivy is such a charming and friendly dog who makes instant friends with anyone she meets (sometimes needs a minute or 2 with some dogs.) Ivy loves kiddie pools and will entertain herself with toys. Even after they're gutted, she enjoys flipping them around and catching them. If the shred lands in your lap, then you're in on the game too! Ivy's foster mom says: "Boxer mix Ivy is delightful, with excellent house manners, good with small kids, good on a leash. Great with other dogs after a proper introduction. Loves watersports: pools, hoses, and squirt guns. Sweet, friendly, and affectionate with excellent house manners." Ivy is crate trained and has excellent house manners. She is fine with small children. She walks well on a leash but can be strong. Ivy is about 2 yo and weighs about 55 lbs. She is spayed, vaccinated, screened for parasites, and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $390 cash and she is available for foster-to-adopt within the Chicago area. Story
Meet Glacier! Glacier is a lovable, male Pitbull mix with a face that looks almost identical to the dog emoji! His adorable white face with tan markings is sure to steal your heart, and his sweet, playful personality will brighten your days. Glacier and his sister were surrendered to PFP at a very young age, and he’s been growing up in a loving foster home, surrounded by care, attention, and plenty of snuggles. Now, he’s ready to find his forever family! Glacier is an active and curious little guy. He’s full of energy and loves to explore, but he also knows how to balance his exercise with cozy couch naps and plenty of cuddle time. Glacier is very smart and wants to please his people. He’s a bit stubborn at times, but he’s working hard with his foster to improve his skills and learn the best ways to interact with other dogs. Right now, he prefers to have his circle small, and he feels most comfortable with the people he loves. He’s still learning how to communicate appropriately with other dogs and will need time to gain confidence in doggy interactions. Glacier has briefly interacted with younger kids, and while he may not have been around children much, he’d likely do well with older kids who understand how to respectfully and appropriately play with him. He’s a little ball of sweetness who truly wants to be the best boy he can be, and his growth has been nothing short of rewarding. If you’re looking for a smart, affectionate puppy who will thrive in a home with lots of love, patience, and understanding, Glacier might just be the perfect addition. His journey is still unfolding, and he’s ready to continue it with a family who will support him as he grows into the amazing dog he’s meant to be. Are you ready to welcome Glacier into your heart and home? Fill out an application here: https://www.playersforpits.com/adoption-survey. If you have specific questions before applying, please feel free to email inquiries@playersforpits.com. If you're interested in adopting, please visit www.playersforpits.com to apply.
