Story
I’m Manny, a 12 year old, 20 pound, male Corgi mix. I’m looking for a special home to spend my golden years. I’m very loving and get along with dogs and cats. I take my time warming up to new things. I am house trained. I am blind but get around fine and have no problem with stairs. In my past life I was very secluded and not cared for. That gave me some triggers. Well really just one — gates, any kind of gate. Because of Manny’s nervousness and past life, we will plan of multiple meetings. Also, Manny will need to be adopted within 50 miles of Flossmoor, IL. Manny is microchipped as well as up to date on vaccines, monthly preventatives. He has had a dental. Manny’s adoption fee is $150. If you are think you are Manny’s special someone, please visit heathersfosterdogs.org to complete and submit your adoption application.

Story
Sheldon is a four and a half year old mix breed, possibly Yorkie and Dachshund. We started him on a weight management diet ( he's a bit pudgy at 20 lbs). In his heart, Sheldon is a sweet, loving little guy. Regretfully, something in his past, of which we know almost nothing, has made him distrustful and snappish. What we do know of his past, he was surrendered by his owner at three and a half years of age with raw feet and large spots of missing hair on his back from an untreated flea infestation. The fleas are long gone and the hair has grown back, gaining his trust has been another story. After several months in a foster home he has come to adore his foster mom. She is allowed to do just about anything, even baths! For nails he goes to a groomer and really doesn't put up a fuss. He is normally fine with his foster dad, but less trustful and has bit him, nothing horrible, more of a warning. Sheldon gets along OK with the resident dog. He would, however, would probably prefer being an only pet. We know it's a long shot but Sheldon needs a home of his very own. We feel he'd do well with an experienced dog owner, someone who is loving, compassionate and would allow as much time as necessary to gain his trust. Sheldon has been OK with adult visitors. He will bark at them until they sit down, then he'll approach for pets. We do not trust him around children. He's put in a room with a gate when kids visit. When no one is home he's happy in his crate with a special treat. He will bark to alert you if he hears something. Therefore an apartment or condo would not be a suitable living arrangement. Sheldon loves to go outside to chase the squirrels, sniff around for other critters and he likes you to stay out with him. He does not like the rain or the snow. He enjoys being brushed and then rolling around on the floor to mess it all up again. He lives to sit in your lap so you can gently rub his ears. If you think you might be interested in adopting Sheldon, please take the time to fill out an application. Sheldon is up to date on vaccinations, neutered, microchipped & current on heartworm & flea preventatives. Sheldon’s adoption fee is $350. If you are interested in adopting, then please go to heathersfosterdogs.org. Click on Adoption Application. Submit your completed application, which will serve as the basis for a conversation, & you will be contacted. Meetings are by appointment only with a reviewed adoption application. We are located in the south suburbs of Chicago and serve the Chicago metropolitan area. We do not ship dogs.

Story
Taurus is a 2 year old, 17 pound, neutered male Chihuahua/Min Pin/Yorkie mix (DNA tested). Taurus is a fun guy who may take his time to get to know you. He will then want to be your friend, go for walks with you, zoom around the yard whenever possible, perch high on a couch pillow while you watch TV or work on the computer & sleep in your bed (under the covers much of the time). Taurus is cautious when meeting new people. Taurus would love bonding & learning with his best friend while taking training classes. Our limited experience observing Taurus’s reaction to small children, & how quickly he will dart through an open door, leads us to recommend a household without younger children. Not a requirement, Taurus would consider a canine playmate a plus. He likes all the dogs he has met. A small dog secure FENCED yard is a virtual must. Quick Taurus loves to roam & survey his domain. His preferred activity level is higher than average. Taurus is housetrained, neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and up to date on heartworm, flea & tick preventatives. Our vet’s exam showed Taurus to be about 2 years old & in excellent health. Taurus may not be a health food nut, but he considers carrots, cauliflower & broccoli as good as any of the treats he has been offered. Taurus's adoption fee is $500. If you’re interested in Taurus, first you may want to see him in action & learn more about him on his public Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61566382906267) or search on Taurus of Heather’s Foster Dogs. If then you’re even more interested, then go to heathersfosterdogs.org. Using the menu at the top of the page, click on “Adoption Application.” Complete & submit an adoption application online. You will be contacted after it is forwarded to Taurus’s foster grandpa. No meeting will be scheduled before he has had an opportunity to review an application. *** Foster Location: South suburbs of Chicago. Please no applications outside the greater Chicagoland metropolitan area (within 2 hours) ***

ADOPT OLGA! American Staffy / German Shepherd mix (we have DNA results) -Housebroken / crate-trained -Sweet, fun, loving personality -Loves other dogs / is cat curious/pesty -Spayed & fully vetted, medium energy Meet Olga! She is a petite, 45 pound pitbull/shepherd mix. She is around 4 years old and was picked up stray by animal control. She is a brindle cutie with an adorable vanilla swirl next to her nose. If you have been looking for a nice medium sized dog that loves to play with other dogs, Olga is your gal! She is fostered with dogs & cats and is cat pesty/curious. Not aggressive towards them but better with no cats or dog savvy/playful cats that can give her a swat and put her in her place if needed. She is bouncy and happy to see her people, so may unintentionally knock down little kids, but still would likely make a great family dog with older/dog-experienced kids. She enjoys playing in the yard with her foster brothers and snuggling on the couch. She is medium energy – not super loud/energetic, and loves lounging on the couch. She is spayed, vaccinated against distemper/parvo, rabies, bordetella, heartworm negative and on heartworm/flea and tick prevention, and microchipped. She is housebroken, crate trained and fully grown at 45 pounds. Her adoption fee is $295. Her foster mom has lots of pics & videos of Olga in her foster home, please email amandarescues78@gmail.com with questions. Sound like a match? Visit www.heathersfosterdogs.org to fill out an application online, which will be forwarded to Olga’s foster mom. We are located in the south suburbs of Chicago, and adopt out to that general area and Northwest Indiana – we do not ship dogs.

Story
ADOPT CARL! 6 y.o., 20 pound, housetrained neutered Miniature Poodle/Pomeranian Mix Carl is a wonderful little fellow who makes a great companion once you earn his trust. Carl often lies with his foster grandpa while he watches TV. With people he is comfortable with, Carl shows he is a friendly, affectionate, playful dog who (naturally) loves his treats, those made specifically for dogs or broccoli, carrots or cauliflower. Our vet estimates that Carl is approximately 6 years old. We know virtually nothing about Carl’s past. He was picked up as a stray & taken to the local animal control as a scared boy who did not want to be touched. It took days for him to decompress in a foster home. Carl likes to chase thrown balls. He doesn’t often return them. He chases, picks them up, turns & waits for you to throw another. He also likes to chew on sticks. Carl’s anxiety is with unknown humans, not dogs. Carl gets along well with the other dogs in his foster home & has shown interest in other dogs he has met. Carl has quickly become friends with a few people who met him at his foster home & strictly followed our meeting protocol. Once he gets to know & trust you, you remain his friend, even after you leave him at the vet for a procedure. Carl does love his foster grandpa. While Carl is quite fond of sitting or lying on his foster grandpa on the couch, he needs & loves to run and play. A small dog secure fenced yard is an ABSOLUTE NECESSITY for Carl. Carl likes to spend significant time outside every day. Carl likes car rides & to explore on a leash walk. Carl will often bark at strangers, but calms down when not forced to interact. When he senses no danger, he will willingly walk with strangers with or without dogs. In the company of people he does not know, Carl naturally seeks reassurance from his foster grandpa. Do not expect Carl to go out in the rain. Carl needs a patient adopter without children with whom he can thrive. While prospective adopters’ children & Carl may form a mutual admiration society, it’s too much to expect their friends to understand just how different Carl’s fear makes his behavior. Carl’s trust in his foster grandpa has since achieved a level where his foster grandpa now shaves & cuts Carl’s coarse locks. For nail trims, his foster grandpa puts a cloth muzzle on Carl & holds him while the vet tech snips. We encourage you to see & learn more about Carl on his public Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61563018184933, or search FB on Carl Heather’s Foster Dogs. Carl is housetrained, neutered & microchipped as well as up to date on his vaccinations & monthly heartworm, flea & tick preventatives. Half of Carl’s $400 adoption fee has been sponsored. If you are interested in meeting Carl, then go to heathersfosterdogs.org. Using the menu at the top of the page, click on Adoption Application. Complete & submit your application, which will serve as the basis for a conversation, & you will be contacted. We will make arrangements to meet with prospective adopters for Carl only after a submitted application has been reviewed & a phone conversation has taken place. ***Please note that we are a foster based group located in the southern suburbs of Chicago. Carl's adopter must live in the greater Chicago metropolitan area.***

Story
Hi there, my name is Rosie and I’m a 4 year old Goldendoodle currently weighing in at around 21 lbs. Best word to describe me would be sweet. And happy. I’m always wagging my tail. I’m a pretty laid back little girl. I am good about entertaining myself in the house and love to play ball in the yard. I will bring it back to you most times. Also love to go on my walks, I have a little pep in my step and walk really well on a leash. I can be a bit shy at first and may take a little bit of time to completely trust. I will get there though so please be patient with me. Once I trust, I love being around people, and if someone is home, I will be wherever you are. I do love to take my naps during the day and am a pretty good little sleeper at night as well. My preference is to be curled up next to my mommy when I sleep at night. I do well in a crate, I may cry for a little bit once first put in there. Currently when home alone though I’m given a treat and left out. I do well if you don’t leave any papers at my level. Oh speaking of treats, I love my treats and just about anything you give me to eat. I am VERY food motivated. I get along very well with other dogs, although I can tend to be a little pushy and jealous when it comes to affection. I guess I probably need to learn a few more manners. Nothing a little training can’t fix, and I do feel like I learn quickly, I am potty trained, but sometimes you have to make sure I stay out long enough to do my business. I don’t want to miss anything going on inside, so I may not stay out as long as I should. The term Nosey Rosie may apply here. Overall, I’m a very sweet girl with a lot of personality, just a little on the shy side. I know it won’t take long before you fall in love though. My big brown eyes and cute face are hard to resist. And I think I am ready to go to my new permanent family. I have been vet checked, spayed, microchipped, heartworm tested negative, am up to date on routine shots including rabies and have been treated with flea & heartworm preventative. My adoption fee is $495. If you are interested in adopting Rosie, and ready to give her a lifelong commitment, then go to our website, www.heathersfosterdogs.org to complete an electronic application.
