Forest Park, IL
Size
(when grown) Small 25 lbs (11 kg) or less
Details
Not good with kids, House-trained, Spayed or Neutered, Shots are up-to-date,
Story
Diego was adopted from Dogs without Borders in Los Angeles in 2015. They acquired him after someone had found him at the side of the road with two broken back legs after being hit by a car. When we adopted him, his legs had been healed. Diego is 10 or 11. We do not know his exact age as when they found him, he had no ID. For Diego to be happy in a new home, we believe he would do well in a calm environment; adults or adults with older kids, and a cozy spot to lay. Diego is calm when he is with adults that he knows. Diego is, in general, good with anyone once he get to know them. Diego does bark at knocks on the door and gets excited (jumps, etc.) when people enter out home. He has always been a nervous dog (shakes and stays close to whoever is cooking) when the oven or stove is on (we have never been able to identify why-possibly something in his past before adopting him).

Story
Serene is a sweet dog that loves treats and loves to play. She's patient and gentle with kids. She loves to sleep snuggled up or lay in the sun. She isn't picky about food, walks well on a leash and is house trained. She does get nervous around garbage trucks and she gets scared if she senses aggression. She barks when people come in the house but she settles down after a nice good sniff. She's a wonderful pup for a house with or without kids.

Good with kids, Not good with dogs, Needs experienced adopter, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Runo is 11 years old, he is a very loving sweet dog, I would love to keep it but my physical and financial condition are not the best, he was re-homed last year to a person that I thought was gonna take care of him but he was found on the streets a few days ago and it’s very noticeable that he has been neglected. He is very sweet and deserve a great final home. He is good with kids but it takes him a while to get along with other dogs, he is a very supportive animal so he would do great as an emotional support animal. He is an old guy but has a lot of energy, please only apply if you can offer him a forever loving forever home and are ok with sending me pictures of him once in a while to make sure he is ok, I don’t want find him on the streets again.

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Root Beer is no stranger to ALIVE Rescue. She was rescued by us back in August of 2017. Root Beer came from a hoarding situation in Chicago where over 40 dogs and puppies were living. Many of the dogs had parvo and Root Beer broke with parvo on the day we were saving her. Luckily, after staying in the ER for several days, she survived. Root Beer has been adopted twice into two loving families since her rescue and we have learned a lot about what makes her happy in a forever home. She bonds quickly to one person in a home and that person becomes HER person. She feels a sense of responsibility to protect that person from everyone else living and visiting the home. At this time, we will only be adopting Root Beer into a home with ONE adult and no children. She also has to be the only animal in the home, so no other dogs or cats. Root Beer doesn't do well with city life where there are too many people, cars and dogs. She'd do best in a single family home in the suburbs. Whoever adopts this girl is going to be really lucky. She will keep you laughing all day long with her happy-go-lucky personality. She's a total goof ball. She likes to feel the wind in her fur. If you are active and like the outdoors, she's your girl. She loves to be outside just sitting and smelling Mother Nature. If she's not resting outside, she is exploring and roaming around. She flourishes at the beach and will walk right in and swim. When she's not busy exploring and being adventurous, you'll find this girl snoozing. She's an expert napper and has never met a blanket or pillow she doesn't love. Falling asleep to tummy rubs is kind of the best. When she's feeling affectionate she'll let you scratch her head and she'll burrow her head into your hand. Let's talk toys....this girl LOVES tennis balls and her favorite is to sprint after the ball & catch it mid-air. Squeaker toy stuffies are the name of the game. And she's really great with puzzle toys. She's a smartie. Speaking of smart, Root Beer also knows basic commands including Shake, Toy, Ball. She will even make her way to the door when you say "inside and knows her bed to be "Place. Training her is easy because she is VERY treat motivated. Not sold on her yet? Root Beer is completely housebroken and is not destructive. Double bonus! Interested in learning more about this girl? Visit aliverescue.org and complete the adoption application.

(when grown) Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Look up "good boy" in the dictionary, and you're sure to find a picture of Randy! This playful pup is a trusty companion while you're working from home. He'll curl up and nap when you're busy, but he'll gladly play a game of tug-o-war with you during your 10-15 minute breaks. He's completely potty trained and is great at knowing which toys he can chew and which can't - this means he won't leave any surprises during any conference calls. During the weekends, he loves to chase tennis balls, go on walks and chew on his plush toys. But don't worry - if you need a calm night in, he'll happily curl up with you on the couch while watching TV. Randy is a curious creature who remains a bit cautious around new people and dogs. But he warms up after a few minutes and is very gentle and friendly. We can see him doing quite well in a house with kids, but he'll be great in any home that will give him the love he deserves. His foster parents have described him as "one of the easiest fosters we've ever had. Help us find his fur-ever home!

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
While Sparky has a forever home at Big Barn as one of our sanctuary dogs, we would entertain the right applicant who sees how special this spunky boy is. Sparky is a mischievous and handsome boy. His favorite things are playing fetch with tennis balls, snacks, and playing in the water. Rain or snow, hot or cold, Sparky will play and walk in all of it with no complaints. He is a medium to high energy dog who will be a great hiking companion-he loves walking, jogging, running etc., but he's also happy to lounge on the couch with you if it's a lazy day. He is potty trained and only uses the bathroom outside. Sparky's ideal home would be an adult-only, pet-free home, with owners who will respect Sparky and his special needs, which include sensitivity when petting him and being mindful of introducing him to strangers. Once he makes friends with you, he is an amazing pup who will accept pets and is sure to be your best friend. If you're looking for a hiking companion, jogging buddy, and a loyal, right-hand man, come meet Sparky at Big Barn!
