Story
My wife and I adopted Archie when he was just a couple of months old in 2019. His birthday is August 4, 2019. Over the years, our family has grown to include a now 3-year-old, but our home remains a 2-bedroom townhome. As our careers have advanced, our time has become extremely limited with the demands of raising a child and working full-time.   We believe Archie would have a more fulfilling life in a larger home with parents who have more time to dedicate to him. Archie is a very sweet boy who loves people and playing fetch. He is full of energy and will be a wonderful cuddle partner when the time comes. We are looking for a loving home with a backyard, that way he has the space to be free! This is not an easy decision, but it’s the right one, for Archie and for us.   I will have some of his stuff to give away with him. Toys and anything else we have. Thanks!

Story
Alfie is being fostered in Cincinnati OH Meet Alfie!  Alfie is a blue merle male, standard Australian Shepherd, who is just over a year old and currently weighs approximately 35lbs.  We imagine Alfie will stay on the smaller side even at his full weight, possibly gettin to 45 lbs at max.  Alfie is a typical aussie that LOVES to go for walks, play with sqeaky toys, and play with his foster sibling that is the same age and size.  Once a good play session is over, he will curl up next to his foster momma.  He definitely has a nice off switch.   Alfie would do best with some that is experienced with the herding breed, and has some prior dog handling experience.  He was was WAY to much dog for his prior owner and because of this, he came to us with some undesired behavioral traits which his foster mom has been working on.  She has solicited help of a trainer and he has responded remarkably well.  When arriving in rescue, he had no manners or self control.  He has learned SO MUCH and with his foster mom's help, he is doing amazing at leash walking, not barking at things that frighten him and getting used to lots of different stimuli.  Given this information, Alfie will do best with a home that would continue the training he has been doing, even working with his foster mom on what this looks like.  This is a MUST for his forever home.  We recommend a home with children over 12 years of age.  Off leash, Alfie enjoys meeting and greeting people and other dogs. On leash, Alfie can become unsure of himself so this is an area he will continue to work on.  Alfie enjoys playing with other dogs, so a playful dog and a physically fenced yard would be ideal for Alfie.  If you are looking for a devoted companion, who will curl up with you, go on long walks, runs, or maybe agility, this is your boy!!! Alfie is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, negative for tick borne diseases, microchipped and taking monthly prevention for fleas, ticks and heartworm.  Proof of heartworm prevention for any current or previous pets is required to adopt from our organization.  For more information on our adoption process, please visit our website at www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org. NOTE:  All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers so we need an approved application on file to set up a meet with a dog you might have an interest in.  Please visit our website for more information on our adoption process, our adoption fees and a link to our adoption application.  We pride ourselves on matches that work for both the dog and your family.  MASR is here for your support, advice and safety net for our dogs for the remainder of their lives.  www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org ##2152129##

Story
0756 Chicago, now called Sunday, is fostered in Wayland, MI. Hello potential adopters! Introducing our handsome boy Sunday who has been in his foster home since the end of January 2025. He was found as a stray on the streets of Chicago and spent a few days at their shelter.  He was sprung on Sunday, hence his name!  Sunday is a red tri standard male Australian Shepehrd with double blue eyes, a bobtail, and freckles. He has been slimmed down from 67 lbs. to a healthier 60 lbs.  He is estimated to be 2 - 3 years old.   Sunday's ideal home would be with either a single adopter looking for a 4-legged best friend or an active couple. Sunday would do best in a home with no kids or other pets as he loves to have undivided attention!  Sunday does like to guard some of the bowls and doorways, but with verbal corrections, this has greatly improved.  Sunday is a work in progress, as we like to call it.   Sunday has not been a big fan of being held or restrained (flails & thrashes to get away), but with food and practice he is doing better. Sunday's love for food is unmatched and makes training a breeze!  He is a ball enthusiast who would love someone that is willing to join him in fetch sessions. He will give you the ball or drop it on you, so no reaching required!  Sunday also loves car rides, hikes, sniffaris, playtime, and simply being with you. He is ready to go on adventures with you or just hang out on the couch! His intelligence, energy, and playful nature make him a good addition for the right home. For Sunday, the right home would be someone with some herding breed experience and an ability to continue positive reinforcement training to help him build on the wonderful progress his foster home has started.  If you would like to learn more about Sunday and his progress, we would love to chat with you! Click on adopt and get the adoption process started! Sunday is neutered, up-to-date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative, microchipped and receiving monthly preventatives for fleas, ticks and heartworms.  Proof of heartworm prevention for any current or previous pets is required to adopt from our organization.  For more information on our adoption process or to complete an adoption application, please visit our website at www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org. Story
Arthur is fostered in Pontiac MO This handsome boy is Arthur.  He ha been with us since August and he is a 2 - 3 year old male, currently weighing about 60 lbs.and at shoulder 24’ and top of head 33’.  Arthur has already stolen our hearts! This charming fellow was found as a stray around July 4th, where kind neighborhood families fed him while searching for his owners. When he came to us, he was severely matted, but after a some grooming, he looks FANTASTIC.  This boy has the BEST personality.   With a DNA test revealing that he’s 85% Australian Shepherd and 15% Boxer, we affectionately call him an Australian Boxherd. Arthur is a smart boy who knows commands like:  No, Sit, Down,  Shake and he's actually quite impressive.  At his intake vet appointment, it was discovered that Arthur was both ehrlichiosis (from ticks) and is also heartworm positive.  Arthur has gone through the gruesome heartworm treatment.  He will need to remain heartworm prevention for the duration of his life (as any dog should).   Arthur is a playful and affectionate boy who absolutely loves to play ball!  After his heartworm treatment, he is super eager to get back to chasing his favorite toy and enjoying life to the fullest.  This charming pup gets along wonderfully with the 5 resident dogs in his foster home.  He is sticks your side wherever you go. In the kitchen, he’s like a little shadow, alwayscurious about what’s happening—especially when it comes to the oven or dishwasher. You might even catch him with his nose in the cabinets, as his playful nature knows no bounds! Arthur is a tall guy, which means he could be a potential counter surfer, so watch out for any snacks left unattended!  He’s also known to be a paper enthusiast—if there’s paper on the table, it’s fair game for him.  Arthur potty trained and knows basic commands like “sit” and “down.” While he does have some enthusiasm on the leash, he’s learning and improving every day. To help with his eagerness at mealtime, we use a slow feeder bowl, so he can savor his food rather than gobbling it down.   Arthur is not just a beautiful dog with stunning eyes; he’s a friendly, funny, and goofy companion who will bring endless joy to your life. If you’re looking for a best friend who is full of love and laughter, Arthur is your guy! Arthur is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on vaccinations and receiving monthly prevention for fleas, ticks and heartworms.  He has been medically cleared after heartworm treatment.  Proof of heartworm for any past or current pets must be provided to adopt from our rescue. MASR is here for your support, advice and safety net for our dogs for the remainder of their lives.  www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org ##2142296##

Story
0804 Maddy is fostered in Bancroft, MI. Meet Maddy! This sweet girl is around 4 years old and weighs 35 lbs. She is a smart girl that loves to please!  She will be your shadow and follow you anywhere. Her favorite place to be is by your side and at night time she will sleep all night long next to your bed. Maddy LOVES going for walks and  being able to run around outside. She currently has a fenced in yard that she runs around in. Maddy has been working on her off leash recall and making great improvements! She is eager to learn and you can teach her about any trick. Once in the house she settles down great and enjoys spending her day napping. Maddy is housebroke, respects baby gates and does not get on the furniture.  Maddy would be okay living with other animals but is just as content being the only dog too. She would love a home that includes her in all the fun activities as she is always down for a car ride. She was a previous stray so we don’t know much about her background. Her ideal home is one with patient owners that are willing to spend lots of time with her as she has some separation anxiety that her foster home is diligently working to train and help.  She is typically crated when left at home.  For a dog like this, separation anxiety is common at first, but typically subsides once they are in a home, understand the routine and have achieved nice bonds and have nice boundaries set for her.   Maddy has been around dogs and cat and kids ages over 6 years and does well with all.  Maddy needs a committed adopter who will continue working on basic obedience training. Maddy will bring so much joy, laughter and love into a household. She is a fun girl that is always ready to tag along on the next adventure.  Maddy is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on all vaccinations and receiving monthly prevention for fleas, ticks and heartworms. She does require a committed adopter who is willing to devote 1 - 2 hours of mental and physical stimulation per day. MASR is here for your support, advice and safety net for our dogs for the remainder of their lives.  www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org ##2353823##

Story
Cola is being fostered in Ottumwa IA Introducing Cola!  This ravishing beauty is a red tri Australian Shepherd girlie looking for her forevers!  Her date of birth is 3/27/2021 and she weighs 48lbs.  She LOVES other dogs and humans of all kinds.  She is just a TOTAL love bug!  Cola came to us as a breeder release from the Amish.  She hasn't spent much time in cars or on leash, so those 2 things are a work in progress.  She is potty trained and crate trained.  She LOVES to play with other dogs and we think would do best with another doggie friend to play with and show her the ropes in her new forever home, but it isn't necessary as long as her home will spend some much needed doggie playtime with other dogs, like doggie day care or playdates.   Cola knows a few basic commands like sit, down and paw, but would love to continue to learn stuff!  She is food motivated, likes to learn new things and is eager to please.  She has wonderful temperament!  She LOVES cats a little too much, so we don't recommend cats in her forever home.  While she is fostered with dog savvy cats, she likes to chase them a little too much for us to trust her 100% with kitties.  Does this beauty speak to your heart?  Please complete an adoption application today! Cola is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, negative for all tick borne diseases and on monthly prevention for fleas, ticks and heartworm.   Proof of heartworm prevention for any current or previous pets is required to adopt from our organization.  For more information on our adoption process or to complete an adoption application, please visit our website at www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org.
