Story
Walter is a very sweet dog. He's eager to please and has a positive attitude. He is big and can be a little too much for a kid to play with. Our 6 year old seems to be too small to handle his energy and enthusiasm if he wants to play. He is smart and would love an owner that had more time to train him better. We got him from an Indianapolis animal shelter 6 months ago and he's come a long way. He was advertised as being more house trained than he was. He only has the occasional relapse on the floor. He is NOT cat friendly. We have tried for months to acclimate our cat with him and we're genuinely concerned he would possibly kill her. He is kennel trained when we are gone or asleep. He appears to have attachement anxiety issues. Which makes sense because he was in the shelter for 2 1/2 months. He is a loyal dog and has never remotely tried to run away. He is semi-leash trained. We have too many cats and squirrels around our neighborhood. Very affectionate, loving, and hadsome!!!

Story
Lottie is one of our longest residents here at ECAC. This girl has been at the shelter for 8 months and we cannot believe no one has scooped her up. Lottie is the BEST girl. She is the sweetest girl to her people and all of us here at ECAC absolutely adore her. She is a 3-4 year old Great Pyrenees. She is completely house trained and does well with cats. Her favorite toys are the smallest squeaky toys that she loves to throw into the air and around the room. When she gets excited she prances around the room and loves to play a game of catch me if you can with her people 😂 She absolutely loves to be brushed and will sit there for hours enjoying her best life. All in all Lottie is the best girl... however she does have some quirks that come with her. Lottie came to us after living with an older gentleman. It was always just the two of them so unfortunately she wasn't socialized properly. Being a Great Pyrenees it is in her DNA to guard so she tends to stick close to her people. You can always find her close by and she loves to lean up against her person for pets 🩷 Lottie does well meeting new people without "her" people being around so a special meet and greet with her could be arranged. Lottie needs a home with very low traffic or a home where she could be put up when company comes over.

Story
Loki is still searching for his furever Valentine 💝 Loki has been at the shelter for 434 days, making this his second Valentine's Day without a home 💔 Loki is the sweetest boy who deserves the best home. He has come a long way from the scared, starving boy who was left in a hotel room. Loki loves going on walks with our volunteers, hanging out in the office for his one on one time, and getting all the love from his shelter family. Despite us making the shelter feel like home as much as possible, it's not the same as a furever home. Loki recently was a hero and went to the Petwellness Center, where he donated blood to a dog in need. ❤️‍🩹 Loki is 6 years old & the bestest boy all around 🥹 Loki does need to be the only animal in the home and a home with no small children. To apply to adopt Loki, fill out our adoption application.

Story
Dwight was originally adopted as a puppy and sadly returned to the shelter after a year. He is looking for a new furever family that won't give up on him. He is a large dog and a DNA test done by one of his siblings has revealed that he is 64% Doberman! He is used to living indoors and was likely potty trained before being returned. He is very treat motivated and picks up on new tricks very quickly! This boy loves to learn! He is very smart and needs a somewhat active family willing to play and exercise him every day. He is such a cool dog. If interested in adding him to your family, please fill out our application on our website at effinghamcountyhumanesociety.org

Meesha is anxiously awaiting for her Christmas miracle of a furever home. Meesha is a petite girl with a big attitude. She is a year pittie mix weighing around 35lbs. She is a sweet girl who zooms around the office trying to soak up all the love she can get. She likes to play with toys and loves treats. She has been going on walks with our volunteer dog walkers to learn how to properly walk on a leash and learn some leash manners. Meesha needs a patient owner who can work with her through her quirks and give her the love & patience she deserves. She does ok with some other dogs (her size or larger) but needs a home with no children or cats. Her adoption fee is $130. To apply fill out our adoption application.
