Story
Ellie Sue is a super sweet happy chihuahua. She isn't for everyone so please read carefully before you apply to adopt. Ellie Sue will steal your heart. That being said, before you apply you need to accept 2 conditions. Ellie Sue has a cataract that requires eye meds. They come from the compounder and she needs to see the opthamalogist. The meds run about $50.00 a month and will be required for life. It is not optional it is a requirement to adopt her, Ellie Sue is also quite a vocal girl. She believes it is her job to let you know that the wind is blowing. If the other dogs are playing she sits on the sidelines and shouts out her cheers and excitement like a sports announcer. When you leave she likes to be the town crier and let everyone know. She likes to express herself with some obsessive barking. It isn't going to change. This is how she is. If you can't accept it, move on to another dog. She doesn't need to be tortured with someone spraying water at her or discipling her. We don't want her to go into a home like that. If you tell her to tone it down she will but you will spend all day doing that. So either live with it or choose another pup. Now, if you got this far and want to know about her, then read on. Ellie Sue starts out a little shy. But once she is feeling safe she wants to crawl in your lap and stay there forever if she could. She's not clingy or needy, she simply loves her person. And if you aren't around she would be okay climbing into a bed as sharing it with an equally nice chihuahua or similar mate especially on a cold day! She tends to like males a touch more, She thinks its always cold like most chihuahuas do! That being said, she is quite content to sit outside in the sunshine even on a chillier day. Having a nice yard to bask in the sun makes her very happy Ellie Sue is both pee pad trained and outside trained. She really likes to go outside but giving her the option especially in rotten weather is quite convenient, Ellie Sue is fully vetted. She has been spayed, vaccinated, had a dental, and microchipped. Her adoption donation is $500.00. She is on the hunt for her own completely committed family, Little dogs can live a long life so she wants to be sure all applicants will stick with her for better or for worse! We adopt in the local Chicago metro area. We require home visits, If you would like to apply to be considered as an adoption candidate to adopt Ellie Sue please fill out an application for her adoption on our website at: https://www.rescuetailsanimalwelfare.org/info/adoption We are all volunteers with full time jobs. Story
Alumni Super Sweet Senior, Mickey Seeking A Forever Home! Poor Mickey! Through no fault of his own he has had at least 4 homes! We found him in 2016 at a community free access shelter at the height of the canine flu! Not only was that a strike against bim but he had broken toes and was next in line to the euth room. We got him our in the nick of time. We covered his medical care. He improved, and healed and landed a lovely new Mom. Sadly Coved him and his mom passed. The family sent Mickey to live with a family friend that adored him. Sadly, his new Mom fell ill and needed to relinquish him to us. No Micky is on the hunt for a forever family that won't let him down. Mickey is a very gentle boy that loves everyone. He is pretty quiet, happy to take long naps in between wandering around the yard, sitting on a deck or taking a walk. He is also happy to nap with you and the family cat! He is quiet and always hoping yummy food might drop his way. He gets along with everyone. He was pee pad trained which might be helpful. We estimate he is 14ish.. He is a healthy fella although has had some allergy issues in the past and recovered IVDD. Mickey is fully vetted, He has been neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and is heartworm negative, His adoption donation is $450.00. He is on the hunt for his own completely committed family, Little Dogs can live to be 25 years old so he wants to be sure al for better or for worse! We adopt in the local Chicago metro area. Story
Amy's journey is nothing short of remarkable. She arrived at our rescue as an X-Puppymill Mom, along with three other standard poodles, in April 2023. On their first day, they stood frozen in the kitchen, huddled together, a poignant reminder of their past life at the mill. Three months later, they've made remarkable progress, learning how to embrace their new roles as cherished companions. However, it's essential to understand that when Amy transitions to her adoptive home, she may initially feel unsafe due to her shy nature. Amy has been gradually coming out of her shell, but she's still working on her potty skills. Therefore, her ideal home would be with someone who can provide frequent bathroom breaks every couple of hours. What's crucial is that Amy needs a patient and caring owner who is willing to let her set her own pace. In just a couple of months in her new home, we believe Amy will begin to feel safe and fully relax into the household routine. Amy is expected to thrive in a home with either a gentle, respectful dog or someone who is willing to spend a significant amount of time with her. This companionship will help her feel more secure as she continues to adjust to her new environment. She must also have a fenced-in and gated yard for her safety, given her shyer disposition. It's worth noting that once Amy does feel safe, she'll delight you with her charming poodle personality. She adores being pet, particularly on her head, and she'll happily sit next to you for hours, a testament to the affectionate and loving companion she's destined to become. Amy is 2-1/2 years old and fully vetted, She has been spayed, received age-appropriate vaccines, microchipped, and is heartworm negative, Subsequent vaccines are at the expense of her adopter Her adoption donation is $600.00. She is on the hunt for her own completely committed family, Dogs can live to be 20 years old so she wants to be sure her family is all in for better or for worse! We adopt in the local Chicago metro area. Story
Lucky is a senior needing an understanding home. Lucky is about 11 years old. He is timid but at first meeting he might start out like a tough guy, The tough guy is just his fear rising up and he wants to look and act like a big tough guy to protect himself. But what he really wants is to have someone hold him and love him to pieces. And even when he wants to act like a German Shepherd, he weighs in at 5 lbs and only has 2 teeth in his mouth! He needs someone who speaks chihuahua and they will understand him and his ways! Lucky's Mom went into a nursing home and the family couldn't take him. He was going to a high kill shelter when we intervened. Lucky biggest flaw is that he like so many male chihuahuas is his tendency to mark. He does enjoy going out in the yard if it isn't too cold outside. However he isn't interested in spending a lot of time outside as some dogs do. Lucky will us a pee pad although some times he misses the pad. He also may choose vertical surfaces because he will mark. So to combat this, he should have frequent potty breaks and wear belly bands at home. Lucky is a bit on the thin side so his family needs to be sure he eats high quality nutritious food. Lucky will do well in a home with a nice tiny chihuahua to sleep and hang out with. Lucky is neutered, had a recent dental, up to date with his vaccinations, He is heartworm negative and microchipped. His adoption donation is $400.00 Lucky is on the hunt for his very own completely committed family, Dogs can live to be 25 years old so he wants to be sure his family is all in for better or for worse! Story
Perry is an X- Puppy Mill Dog Needing a Patient Home That Will Help Him Blossom. Perry is an active young fella that is getting to know what life is like outside a puppymill. He has spent the first year of his life in a mill. He was released by the breeder who no longer wanted him. Perry has been with us about 4 months and during the time he has done very well adjusting to living in a home, not a cage. Puppy Mill dogs are not socialized and are afraid of many noises and sounds another dog has generally been exposed to. Each day is a new learning experience. Perry has learned his lessons well enough to begin a new life with a new family. Mill dogs MUST have fenced in yards for their potty place. This is not optional, This is for safety. They must have dog savvy families that have time and patience to earn a dog's trust. They also should be in adult homes that are very careful with doors, gates, etc,. to prevent door dashing. No one wants a lost dog, but we don't want a mill dog to take off. Perry will benefit from another respectful similar size and age dog in the family. Mill dogs understand dogs far better than people. Perry has more confidence with his mill buddy Gerry. Another dog in the family will help bring Perry out. Of course, you are welcome to adopt his mill buddy Gerry as well if you don't have a buddy for Perry yet. In time, Perry will benefit from training and might even be a candidate for agility training. Training is more than a skill set, it helps create a better bond and communication skill between human and dog which is even more important with a mill dog. What's crucial is that Perry needs a patient and caring owner who is willing to let her set him own pace. In just a couple of months in his new home, we believe Perry will begin to feel safe and fully relax into the household routine. Perry is expected to thrive in a home with either a gentle, respectful dog as well as having a family who is willing to spend a significant amount of time with him This companionship will help him feel more secure as he continues to adjust to her new environment. It's worth noting that once he does feel safe, he'll delight you with his charming poodle personality. Perry is crate trained and potty trained. Perry is 1 year old and fully vetted, He has been neutered, received age-appropriate vaccines, microchipped, and is heartworm negative, Subsequent vaccines are at the expense of his adopter His adoption donation is $800.00.
