Story
Hi there my name is Huey and I am a Chihuahua/Schnauzer/Terrier mix about 7 years old. I have been in the rescue for quite some time as it takes me a little time to trust people. I was abused in my past so on my initial meet and greets with new people I am unsure and sudden movements make me scared. Once I get to know you and trust you you can't get rid of me. Once we are BFFs, I am the most loyal, fun, sassy and most of all cuddly friend. I am looking for my forever home with somebody who is either a stay at home, work from home, or retired as I like to be with my people as much as possible. I am completely up to date on my vetting which includes neutered, rabies vaccine, distemper vaccine, bordetella, negative fecal, negative heartworm, and microchipped. If interested in meeting me please go to the rescue's website www.atailof4paws.org and fill out the application. Once completed email or scan to rescue@atailof4paws.org

Story
Hi, my name is Honey. I'm about 1.5 year old Bull Dog /Pit Bull mix. I am looking for my forever home or foster to adopt home. My current foster family is going to be relocating soon, and I am looking for my forever family. Let me share what my ideal home would look like: an active family that will continue my training and give me regular walks. My new family will give me expectations and structure. I would also love a fur companion that likes to play. You see, I don't have a long list, but these are things that will help with my happy energy. I am housebroken and crate trained. I love to cuddle and be with my people. I do walk nicely on a leash, but sometimes I do pull when I see rabbits, squirrels, or another doggie I would want to play with. I get along with other dogs. I would do better with children 10 or older as I get excited and don't want to knock down smaller children.. I am current on my vetting- spayed, rabies vaccine, distemper vaccine, bordatella, negative fecal, negative heartworm, negative Lyme, and Erlichia. If you are interested in meeting me please go to the website www.atailof4paws.org and fill out the application. Your one application away from meeting me.

Good with kids, Good with dogs, Needs experienced adopter, House-trained,
Story
Pongo was born February 12, 2020 and is soon going to be 3 years old. He is a fun-loving, super energetic guy who also enjoys belly rubs and playing fetch with his orange ball. Pongo has been around other dogs his size and bigger and loves to play lots and lots. He would love a big open space to be able to run around in and get all his energy out. He knows to use the bathroom outside, is crate trained, and has some obedience training like sitting, waiting, off, and some tricks like spin but needs an experienced adoptee who can handle his high energy. He is a very friendly dog and has no history of distemperment or aggression. He is fine around people but has LOTS of energy. Pongo would love lots of time for chin scratches and tug of wars and just as equally would love to lay by your feet and watch a movie. For an additional fee I can provide Pongo’s crate as well as his cost and brushes.

Story
Meet Mercutio (pronounced Mer-Cue-She-O)! He is a vibrant and active ~12 year old boy who is looking for his forever home. He is happy to cuddle up on the couch, but also loves romping in the fenced yard. He gets along with other dogs, kids, and cats- but he does occasionally try to chase the cat. He can get protective of his people and that is when his chihuahua traits can some out- such as barking or growling at strangers on walks, He is crate trained and does great with potty training. He loves a good game of fetch with a squeaky toy. He is looking for a dog savvy home that is familiar with the protective nature of chihuahuas. He really is a love bug. He did have a mast cell tumor that was removed from his tail, but margins were good and it was low grade, so chances of reoccurrence are low, but it will need to be monitored. He also got a full dental cleaning. Mercutio's adoption donation of $300 helps cover the cost of his veterinary care. Application, reference checks, and home visit required. Adopters must live 1.5 hours driving distance from Romeoville, IL. For more information on adopting, please email us at info@perfectpooches.org. If you are interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application, which can be found on our website at www.perfectpooches.org under the Adoption Process tab. All dogs are spayed/neutered, current on vaccines, heartworm tested (age appropriate), fecal tested and/or dewormed, and microchipped.

Story
Romeoville, IL- PENNY really needs a home of her own where she can get the love and attention she deserves. Penny was born in October 2021, weighs 55 lbs, and is a Catahoula/pit mix (DNA was done by previous owners). Penny was adopted from us spring of 2022 as a young, energetic puppy named Delta. Delta went to a home with 2 young kids (2 and 4 at the time) and a husband and wife. They rarely left her alone, as one parent was most always home. They report she was a wonderful dog, fantastic with the kids, smart, loving.... but unfortunately their oldest daughter could not learn how to be nice to Penny and they thought it was in Penny's best interest to return her Spring 2023. We always stand behind our dogs so we agreed to take her back, but with such a powerful, young, energetic dog- she has had to be kept separate from the others. She displays a lot of anxiousness around the other dogs and despite the previous owners saying they would take her to dog parks we believe she needs very slow and controlled meetings with new dogs. She had been taken to 2 rounds of obedience classes. We have found that she knows her basic commands and will do them when you have a treat, but without a treat she seems to get selective hearing . She has a tendency to pull on a leash, but has been doing well with a harness and slip leash as a combo, but she definitely will need to continue leash training. Penny is stressed out being separated. It was a huge transition from her going from always being with her people all day every day to being separated and not getting the undivided attention and only getting limited outings. We thought we had found another foster home for her, but there was an altercation between her and one of the resident dogs not more than 5 minutes after we left. We think things just went too fast for her and she really needed time to decompress. We think she has amazing potential with a family/person that can work with her on basic manners and someone who can give her outlets to burn off her puppy energy. An adopter that will take things slow when it comes to dog introductions and understands that it is a process and not a race. One bad intro can ruin a relationship. Penny has had exposure to a dog savvy cat and after the initial excitement she can walk by him on a leash without bothering him. We are not sure is she should be loose with a cat yet, but she shows potential for co-existing with a cat. Do you know someone that would be a great dog mom or dog dad to Penny? Please tag them in this post! Share!! Penny's adoption fee of $200 will be put towards a mutually agreed upon training class. For more info please contact us at info@perfectpooches.org Home visits, reference checks and meet and greet required. Her previous family had this to say about Penny: "Penny is a wonderful girl who loves to play tug of war/probably her favorite game of all. She loves to go on long runs and is pretty good with keeping pace with her human without pulling. She is really great with kids and has a watchful eye for them as well. She has loads of energy and would be best suited with a family that could provide a nice size backyard or frequent trips to the dog park. She's really good with getting to know and playing with other dogs. She has stopped growing for the most part and should maintain her current weight. If you give her a nice beef bone or new chew toy, she'll go off to her favorite spot and work on it for quite some time. She's getting better at walking on a leash but still needs a little guidance and patients with it. Penny is pure muscle and will need someone to help her complete her leash training. She is getting better on the leash as time goes on, but could still use some work in that department. She is generally really good about not chewing things up, including kid's toys. She knows the difference between her toys and kid's toys, stuffed animals included. She loves to cuddle and take naps. She really loves people and enjoys lots of interaction with them. She's a fast learner and really makes training easy, especially when there's high value treats involved. Penny loves to show off the skills she has learned. She really is an awesome family dog and would do anything to protect them and make them happy. She has grown up with two young kids that range from 2-4 years of age and is so good with them. There has never been any worry about her and her interactions with the kids. She loves to play with them as much as she can. She's so gentle with them and seems to understand the strength difference between her and the kids." If you are interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application, which can be found on our website at www.perfectpooches.org under the Adoption Process tab. All dogs are spayed/neutered, current on vaccines, heartworm tested (age appropriate), fecal tested and/or dewormed, and microchipped.

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
*REAR PARALYZED* Sweet Pea came to us from Arkansas where her family had surrendered her as a young puppy saying the mom dog stepped on her. Based on x-rays Sweet Pea has a spinal deformity that our vet believes was a genetic issue and not one due to trauma. She is rear paralyzed, but loves her cart! She does not know when she needs or is going potty, but she is pottying on her own and does not need to be expressed. She does wear a diaper when she is not in her crate. Sweet Pea was guessed to be born in April of 2022, so she is still just a puppy. She loves to play with the other dogs and do other puppy things- like chew on things. Sweet Pea's adoption donation of $250 helps cover the cost of her veterinary care and will include her special crate, wheelchair, and harness. Application, reference checks, and home visit required.
