Story
Guinness is the sweetest dog. He’s very gentle and loving, but he requires a ton of attention. Attention that unfortunately we can’t give him at our current stage of life. Without attention he becomes anxious and pees inside. He will throw other fits out of anxiety such as moving his food bowl all around the house, digging the floor, peeing and pooping around the house. With a ton of attention, these behaviors are less. We got Guinness from a pet store when he was six months old and have been his only owners. He will be 13 at the end of September. He is still very healthy, but does seem to have some hearing loss. We don’t really want to re-home him, but we know it’s not fair to him to keep him with us since he’s not getting the attention he needs and deserves. He needs a home where he is preferably the only pet and can be given a lot of attention.

Atlas is 1 year and 2 months(?) old he is a good dog but requires a tremendous amount of attention that we are unable to give at this time. He has a lot of love to give. Unfortunately he is deaf, and it has made things difficult. He knows hand signals well like "go this way", "come", "stop."

Story
Marty, a vibrant 1.5-year-old neutered male French Bulldog, seeks a suitable home. Ideally, he would thrive as the sole pet in a household with children aged 12 and above. While Marty has undergone crate training, he still requires supervision when granted freedom within the house. Currently, he is diligently learning essential commands, including loose-lead heeling, sitting, lying down, and staying. Marty possesses the potential to become an ideal companion for the appropriate household.

Story
My name is Penny and I’m looking for my forever home. My must haves are: a patient forever family who will help me continue to learn to trust humans, and a securely fenced yard, since I am not yet comfortable walking on leash. A resident dog or two is recommended. I’m 6 years old and I came to SIRA from a commercial breeding facility where I was a breeder mama. When the breeder didn’t want me anymore, SIRA rescued me and brought me to my foster home here in Davenport, IA. I was so scared when I first arrived here – it’s so different than everything I knew. It has taken me some time to learn that humans here are kind to me. I’m still very cautious, but I am learning that attention from humans can be nice. My foster mom sometimes brings me over to the couch to sit on her lap. That feels nice and cozy and I will happily stay there. But when humans are moving around, I move away or just stay in my safe spot. I’m also figuring out that the humans here have yummy things to eat! It’s taken me a while, but I’m brave enough now to take treats from my foster mom’s hand. There are other dogs here in my foster home and I like them. We like to play together, especially around bedtime when I start to get the zoomies. I am a healthy girl – spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations, and I weigh around 18 lbs. My perfect forever family will be experienced with dogs like me who are shy and skittish. I’d love to have another nice dog friend or two to play with. They really help me feel safe and learn all about being a treasured family member. I haven't had the chance to meet any cats or small kids, so I don't know what I'd think of them. If you live in the Midwest and are interested in a sweet, shy, Pretty Penny to be by your side, the first step is to visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to start the application process. Applying helps SIRA learn more about you so they can make sure we’ll be a good match. Once approved, they’ll introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet.

Story
Name: Beau Breed: Great Dane Mix Gender: Male Color: Tri color Age: 9 yrs Weight: 122 lbs Intake Date: 12/18/21 Special Needs: No Good with Cats? No Good with all dogs?  Yes Good with all kids? Yes Foster Location:  Albany, IL Beau is the happiest boy who just wants to be the center of your world. His tail is always wagging. He loves snacks, snuggles and butt scratches. When Beau first arrived he was a little head-shy but we are working with him and he's realizing head scratches might not be so bad - but not as good as butt scratches of course. Beau is looking for someone who understands that at somepoint during his life he didn't have anything, so sometimes he finds it hard to share his food and toys.  He  would be happy to show off some of his tricks like sitting, laying down, and shaking. Meet and greets can be scheduled with approved adopters. To apply to adopt from XL Canine Rescue, Ltd just click on the adoption application link on the website. All dogs adopted from XL Canine Rescue are all age appropriate vetted and microchipped. Puppies are on a spayed or neutered contract.
