Story
Meet Kokomo Joe! Looking for a big, lovable goofball to brighten your days? Look no further—Kokomo Joe is here! This 80-85+ lb mixed breed boy may have had a rough start in Texas, but he's ready to leave his past behind and find a forever home filled with love and belly rubs. Kokomo Joe's story is heartbreaking—he was abandoned and starved when his previous owner was incarcerated, leaving him to fend for himself while his housemates were fed. When he first arrived, he was painfully thin, with every rib and his hip bones showing. He also had some food aggression, but who could blame him after all he'd been through? Thankfully, with regular meals and love, he now understands he’ll never go hungry again. He’s no longer protective of his food and hasn’t shown any signs of food aggression since. Despite his past, Kokomo Joe’s spirit shines bright! He’s a true fun-loving goober who doesn’t realize his own size. Whether he’s hopping around like Tigger or cuddling up as if he’s a tiny lap dog, this big guy will keep you smiling. His crate and house manners are spot-on—zero accidents here! He’s even learned to move his crate across the floor, proving he’s as strong as he is sweet. Kokomo Joe gets along with other dogs with proper introductions and would thrive in a home that can continue his training and give him the structure he needs. His ideal family will embrace his goofy, big-hearted nature and help him become the best boy he can be. If you’re ready to welcome this big, bouncy cuddle bug into your life, Kokomo Joe is ready to meet you! Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). . It includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Applications will not be reviewed unless fully completed. An application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee adoption but does allow us to begin the review process. Story
Meet Double Dip – Your New Best Friend! Double Dip is a spirited one(ish)-year-old pup with endless energy and a heart full of love. This playful guy is always the life of the party, making fast friends with other dogs and spreading joy wherever he goes. When it’s time to relax, Double Dip is a pro at cozy cuddles and loves being as close to his people as possible—personal space is optional in his world! Hailing from the South (Texas), Double Dip might be a mix of Feist and Bird Dog, both known for their intelligence and energy. Rescued from a high-kill shelter, he hitched a lucky ride to Safe Haven, where he’s been thriving in his foster home. He’s learning the joys of regular meals, soft beds, and plenty of love (though he’s not entirely convinced baths are a good thing). Weighing just over 30 lbs., Double Dip is smart as a whip and eager to learn—especially if treats are involved! He’s wonderful with all humans and would love a family that will continue to teach him new tricks and keep him mentally and physically stimulated. Double Dip hasn’t been tested with cats, but his curious nature suggests he might enjoy chasing them, so a cat-free home or careful introductions would be ideal. If you’re looking for a playful, affectionate, and intelligent companion to share your adventures and snuggle sessions, Double Dip is ready to fill your life with fun and love. Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). . Story
Sandy, tenderly nicknamed “Maisie” arrived from Texas back in September. She’s 55lbs and best guess is black mouth cur mix and about 2 years old. Maisie’s life has not been easy - she arrived at the shelter with 3 other dogs when her owner became incarcerated. Her siblings were not lucky enough to make it out of the shelter. Maisie hadn’t given up hope and become a playgroup rockstar helping save her life and luckily making it out and headed to Illinois with a loving foster family. Maisie came north weary of new experiences and men no doubt because of the life she had led prior to rescue. Due to her amazing foster family - Maisie has started to blossom! 🌼 She has learned basic commands “sit”, “leave it”, “touch” & “come.” She is crate trained and needs consistency to continue to build trust and to help her predict situations to make her feel safe. Maisie lives with adults and other dogs in her foster family. She thrives with routine, loving praise and another dog to match her energy! She adores the dog park and long walks to burn off her energy. She will need a fenced yard to contain her especially a tall one since this she is very athletic and loves to run! She would do best with other dogs in the home to help show her the ropes and give her a comfortable friend to play with! Maisie is especially drawn to children at our adoption events and comes every weekend in hopes of catching someone’s eye. She loves to give them affection and would do well with an active family in her forever home. Maisie bonds with the people she can trust and needs a special family to give her a chance to continue to grow in her confidence and appreciate kindness and love. She would thrive with an active family of people, kids and other dogs. It will take her some time to adjust to a change but she will reward her family in unconditional love! We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Applications will not be reviewed unless fully completed. Story
Meet Breezy! Hi, I’m Breezy, a 2-year-old Husky mix with a whirlwind of energy and a heart full of love! Weighing in at 55-60 lbs, I’m the perfect blend of strength and snuggles. My journey started in Texas, where I was abandoned, but I made my way to Illinois, and now I’m on the lookout for my forever family—could that be you? I’m a high-energy gal who loves to play and explore. I get along well with other dogs, especially with proper introductions, and I’ve even found my best buddy, Kal El, in my foster home! When I’m not zooming around, I’m a total love bug, ready to share affection and soak up all the belly rubs you can give. I’m both crate trained and house trained—zero accidents here! My foster family says I’ve got the silliest, most adorable ears that give me a permanently curious and playful look. And yes, I do the classic "Husky talk," adding a bit of sass and personality to every conversation. While I’m already a pretty awesome pup, I’d thrive with a family who can continue my training. I’m eager to learn and would love someone who can guide me with patience and consistency. Whether we’re going on adventures or cozying up at home, I promise to bring joy, laughter, and love to your life. If you’re looking for a sweet, spirited, and slightly goofy companion, I’d love to meet you! Let’s make every day a breezy, tail-wagging adventure! Story
Porsia’s Dating profile 🐾💓 I’m a pretty girl with a fantastic personality! Ready for a fun time? Will you be my favorite copilot and partner in life? I may not drive fast cars although I have had to live life in the faster lanes due to circumstances. It’s been a thrill ride with a recent “freedom ride” from Texas with my puppies. Now that they are taken care of, I’m actively looking to settle into a more simple, yet structured lifestyle. I’m just over a year old. I’m a dainty, light on my feet (or not too heavy on your lap) 45lb puddle of love. I’m a really neat, good looking girl who’s thankful for the soft place with my foster parents and 3 resident dogs (whom I adore) but I’m now looking for a real love connection of my own💕 I’m a striking magical mix of Shepherd, Husky, and Cattle Dog. My one blue eye and one brown eye makes me a real looker! I would love an active family to share adventures with, solo or with other dogs who can keep up with me. I can be a bit of a chatty gal… it’s hard to hide my husky genes sometimes although when asked to “shoosh”, I comply. I like my crate (fully crate trained) and quiet down quick after a minute or two to nap or chomp on a good tasty bone. I make the perfect car copilot or couch buddy. I am a loyal pup but also really like to meet new people and furry friends. I tend to roll over frequently and ask for all the belly rubs and attention from humans, big and little 😉 I am very playful, enjoy a jog or a good hearty dart around the yard. I like my selection of bones and toys. Squeaky ones are the best and some fetch is perfect! After some play, I just LOVE to cuddle. I’m learning what your personal space is but I do love to be in it if you’ll have me 💓 I’ve been around other families, dogs, and kids during my time here in Illinois. They all have fallen in love and taken good care of me until my pups grew and I was ready for my next adventure. I’m still young and learning. I can get so excited to see you and jump up, but my foster humans are helping me learn better manners and ways to manage that excitment. I’ve been told I’m making wonderful progress. I am very motivated to learn and a smart one. I walk well on a leash. I do enjoy sniffing the cool air and exploring my surroundings. I’m fully potty trained. I always take care of business quickly when I go outside. It’s cold here in Illinois, no doodling around out too long there for me. I sit when asked and listen pretty well when you tell me no or leave it. A firm “Ah Ah!”, I take the hint. Can we make a date to meet, a match, or real love connection? I’ll be waiting content until then
