Story
Guinness is the sweetest dog. He’s very gentle and loving, but he requires a ton of attention. Attention that unfortunately we can’t give him at our current stage of life. Without attention he becomes anxious and pees inside. He will throw other fits out of anxiety such as moving his food bowl all around the house, digging the floor, peeing and pooping around the house. With a ton of attention, these behaviors are less. We got Guinness from a pet store when he was six months old and have been his only owners. He will be 13 at the end of September. He is still very healthy, but does seem to have some hearing loss. We don’t really want to re-home him, but we know it’s not fair to him to keep him with us since he’s not getting the attention he needs and deserves. He needs a home where he is preferably the only pet and can be given a lot of attention.

Story
My name is Penny and I’m looking for my forever home. My must haves are: a patient forever family who will help me continue to learn to trust humans, and a securely fenced yard, since I am not yet comfortable walking on leash. A resident dog or two is recommended. I’m 6 years old and I came to SIRA from a commercial breeding facility where I was a breeder mama. When the breeder didn’t want me anymore, SIRA rescued me and brought me to my foster home here in Davenport, IA. I was so scared when I first arrived here – it’s so different than everything I knew. It has taken me some time to learn that humans here are kind to me. I’m still very cautious, but I am learning that attention from humans can be nice. My foster mom sometimes brings me over to the couch to sit on her lap. That feels nice and cozy and I will happily stay there. But when humans are moving around, I move away or just stay in my safe spot. I’m also figuring out that the humans here have yummy things to eat! It’s taken me a while, but I’m brave enough now to take treats from my foster mom’s hand. There are other dogs here in my foster home and I like them. We like to play together, especially around bedtime when I start to get the zoomies. I am a healthy girl – spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations, and I weigh around 18 lbs. My perfect forever family will be experienced with dogs like me who are shy and skittish. I’d love to have another nice dog friend or two to play with. They really help me feel safe and learn all about being a treasured family member. I haven't had the chance to meet any cats or small kids, so I don't know what I'd think of them. If you live in the Midwest and are interested in a sweet, shy, Pretty Penny to be by your side, the first step is to visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to start the application process. Applying helps SIRA learn more about you so they can make sure we’ll be a good match. Once approved, they’ll introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet.

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
A shelter favorite, Sky's mission is to treat every day as a new adventure and is looking for her perfect partner-in-crime (of the good kind!). She loves playing with squeaky toys, and don't even get her started about how much fun it is to go on walks! Sky is happy, squishy faced and beautiful! Hobbies: Howling at the moon, giving you sad eyes for treats, and long ear scratches. Sky is a playful pup with a face that'll melt your heart. Our Volunteers at the shelter get a kick out of Sky's "side eye" as they call it. Sky is 3 years old and has some energy! She loves to play with toys and will entertain herself if you can't at the time! She seems house trained as she keeps her kennel clean. We believe she would do well in most homes with proper introductions! Skye is not in the main public section of the shelter, so be sure to ask for her by name if you come to visit her!

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Meet Nootro Boom, a big-hearted three-year-old with a gentle spirit. This playful guy loves a good scratch and is always up for a bit of toy time, though he's surprisingly easygoing-give a tug, and he'll happily let go. While he's still learning the basics and could use some training, he's been wonderful with kids in the past and would make a great fit in most homes. If you're looking for a lovable companion ready to grow with you, Nootro Boom might just be the one! If you are interested in adopting, please visit the shelter during adoption hours. Be sure to let the front desk know the name of the dog you are interested in visiting. Once you have met with the dog and an application has been approved, we will then ask to complete a meet and greets with any dog(s) that are currently living in the home or visit frequently. Our adoption hours are as follows: Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 12pm-5:30pm Thursday: 2:30pm-5pm Saturday & Sunday: 12pm-4:30pm
