Story
My name is Milly and I’m looking for my forever home! I will be 13 in July, so I’ve been around the block a time or two, but I’ve stillgot lots of spunk and love and life and opinions left! What I’m looking for is simple: someone to love and take me for walks and rub my belly. I’d love a soft place to snooze and a window to sunbathe in and watch the world go by. I’m a lovebug and well-behaved in the house. I’m fully potty trained and not destructive. I may be small – only 15 lbs - but I’m not afraid to express my opinion (if you want to see my Drama Queen mode, try to trim my nails!). I came from a home where everything was fine until a tiny little human came along. This little human needed lots of attention from my people. The squealy, screamy noises and sudden movements and grabby hands freaked me out! My family tried to keep us separated, but they realized that I was sad. It wasn’t fair to me or to the little human, since we both needed love and attention. So that’s how I came to my foster home here in Chicago. I was scared at first of all the new things. There are other dogs here and I let them know right away that I wasn’t a push-over. While there were a few spats at first, things settled down once I got to know and trust them. I still get growly when I worry that they might take my food. But I like it here – I love going for walks in the neighborhood and curling up in bed at night with my foster mom. My perfect forever home will be a calm one with no small children (older, calm, respectful kids are fine). I haven’t lived with cats or small pets, but I like to chase squirrels and bunnies outside, so they might not be the best fit. Loud noises and lots of activity can make me nervous. If there are other dogs in the house, gradual supervised introductions would be best. I’m a healthy girl – spayed and vaccinated. If you live in the Midwest and are interested in a sweet and snuggly companion like me, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA make sure we’ll be a good match. Once approved, they’ll introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet!

Story
My name is Snitzel and I’m looking for my forever home. I’m a big boy at 48 lbs and I’m 9 y.o. I'm handsome too, in case you didn't notice. I may have been around the block a time or two, but my best years are in front of me. I came to my foster home here in Machesney Park, IL, from a shelter that was no fun at all! I like it here much better. There’s a 3-year-old kid here who is my best bud. He knows not to get in my face or push me around and I just love to hang out with him and watch over him. The 13-year-old kid is okay too. There are other dogs here and they are fine, as long as they don’t get any ideas about checking out my food or water bowls! Foster dad feeds us separately so there aren’t any squabbles. I’m a good boy. I walk nicely on leash and I am totally house trained. I’m fine being home unsupervised – I never cause trouble. Just give me a comfy spot to snooze and I’m good! I take treats very gently and I’m a healthy boy. I’m neutered and vaccinated. When I first came to SIRA I had a lump on my leg, but SIRA got that removed. My perfect forever home will be laid-back and easy going, with humans who understand how to treat a Shiba gentleman like me. I’m very mellow, but that doesn't mean I’m a pushover. I’ve been through a lot of change recently and because of that I like things to be on my terms. I don’t like being pushed around and will get mouthy if when manhandled. I enjoy affection and petting, but when I’m ready for it. My perfect forever home will be mellow and laid-back, like me. My foster home thinks I’d adapt well in pretty much any home environment as long as my humans are patient with me and take the time to get to know my style. I’d be fine as an “only dog” but if you do have other pets or kids, they should be friendly and respectful. If you live in the Midwest and want to share your life with a mellow, well-behaved older gentleman like me, then visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt for more information and to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA get to know you and your home environment so they can make sure we’ll be a good match. Once approved, they’ll introduce you to my foster dad so we can meet!

Story
Introducing BOGIE, a Bichon Frise & Shih Tzu cross breed who is just over a year old, weighing approximately 12 pounds. Bogie is a very sweet boy that was rescued from a puppy-mill breeder when he was “too old” to sell. Bogie does not have a mean bone in his body and really craves a gentle touch/pet because he finally feels safe. Bogie follows his foster mom around, especially when outside in the yard, and now feels safe to come when called. He now plays and sometimes gets the “zoomies” in the yard, looking so happy. His recovery from his horrible first year of life has been remarkable and we are so happy for him. Because Bogie can be skittish, especially from unfamiliar sounds and people, he requires a calm household, securely fenced yard and another friendly, small to medium sized dog in the home who will continue to mentor Bogie’s rehabilitation. Bogie enjoys the companionship of other dogs but more importantly he gets his confidence from them, learning more typical dog behavior. Bogie has good home manners and is housebroken. Due to his skittish nature, he has not been trained to go for walks on a leash. He is approved for adult-only  households. He is such a great little dog whose future is so bright! This dog has been examined by a licensed veterinarian, provided vaccines, been dewormed, tested for diseases, neutered, and microchipped. Our online application is not functioning currently; therefore ADOPTION APPLICATIONS are available upon request from acaringplace@comcast.net.   We apologize for the inconvenience. A Caring Place - All Breed Dog Rescue adopts throughout the Greater Chicagoland Area. All dogs and puppies live in foster homes, providing you as the adopter, with information on the animal's behaviors, needs, and requirements. We are always in search of fosters care providers. If you are one of those special people willing to open your heart and home to an animal in need and would like to receive information on how you can foster an animal, please contact us.     January 7, 2025, 4:30 am

Story
Calling all DIVAS.... If ever you wanted a “diva” companion to be your best friend, look no further. This adorable little gal is TRIXIE; she is a long-haired, nub-tail, Chihuahua or Papillon mix who is about 3 years old and approximately 10 pounds. Trixie is a complex girl with so much love to share with her human. She prefers to be the center of your attention and will let others know it - a pretty typical trait for some Chihuahuas. Trixie prefers to be the only dog - she is not that good with other small dogs, larger calm dogs are ok - and she will need an adopter who is home more often (work from home or stay at home mom). She will take a couple days to warm up to new people, but she bonds strongly once she knows you. Trixie LOVES her toys and would play all day with you if you let her.  Trixie is very communicative and will let you know, as you can see from one of the videos, when she wants to play, or want something, or is seeking attention. She requires a home without children. Trixie is looking to be spoiled rotten by her adopter, giving her the love and attention she craves. This little gal prefers a fenced in yard compared to going for walks on a leash for bathroom breaks, but with practice we believe she will adjust to leash walking if necessary.  This dog has been examined by licensed veterinarians, tested for diseases, provided inoculations, been dewormed, spayed, and microchipped. ADOPTION APPLICATIONS are available upon request from acaringplace@comcast.net.  Our online application isn’t working correctly so please contact us so we can send a copy via email to you.  A Caring Place - All Breed Dog Rescue adopts throughout the Greater Chicagoland Area. Story
CASPER IS ABOUT AS SWEET AS THEY COME!!  This little sweetie is Casper, a 6-7 pound, 2-year-old, long-haired Chihuahua mix; he’s so lovable and very cuddly. He really just wants to be your best friend. Casper is more interested in people than other dogs, but he has enjoyed playing with one of the other dogs in his foster home. Because Casper is intimidated by most other dogs so he would need to go into a home with a small dog that is passive and calm. Casper has moderate energy, walks well on a leash, is completely housebroken, and will play with squeaky toys if enticed; he really prefers to hang out with his people. Due to his small size, Casper is approved for an adult-only or adult and teens household. You couldn't ask for a nicer pup! This dog has been examined by licensed veterinarians, been provided vaccines, tested for disease, dewormed, neutered, and microchipped.
