Story
I’m Manny, a 12 year old, 20 pound, male Corgi mix. I’m looking for a special home to spend my golden years. I’m very loving and get along with dogs and cats. I take my time warming up to new things. I am house trained. I am blind but get around fine and have no problem with stairs. In my past life I was very secluded and not cared for. That gave me some triggers. Well really just one — gates, any kind of gate. Because of Manny’s nervousness and past life, we will plan of multiple meetings. Also, Manny will need to be adopted within 50 miles of Flossmoor, IL. Manny is microchipped as well as up to date on vaccines, monthly preventatives. He has had a dental. Manny’s adoption fee is $150. If you are think you are Manny’s special someone, please visit heathersfosterdogs.org to complete and submit your adoption application.

Story
ADOPT ZELDA! Updated breed info! We need to address the obvious. I am a Pug mix, but I’m tall and thin. As the DNA report shows, I’m a Pug/Malinois mix. So I’m easy to train. I don’t have the breathing issues, but I have the cutesy under bite and unique eyes. So here’s more about me. I love toys, dogs and kids. If a kid is playing with a ball I want to join. I am doing great with basic training. Boy do I like my food, which is great for my continued training. I’m houstrained. Overnight & when my foster mom is not home I stay in my crate. Zelda is up to date on vaccinations for her age, neutered, microchipped & current on heartworm & flea preventatives. Zelda’s adoption fee is $450. Story
Carl is a wonderful little fellow who, in his comfort zone, behaves like a normal, friendly, affectionate, playful dog. Carl does have an unusual fear of strangers which can be overcome following a protocol we worked up with a certified dog behaviorist. He is not aggressive but warns off those whom he does not know. Carl has quickly become friends with a few people who met him at his foster home & strictly followed our meeting protocol. Once he gets to know & trust you, you remain his friend, even after you leave him at the vet for a procedure. Carl does love his foster grandpa. While Carl is quite fond of sitting or lying on his foster grandpa on the couch, he needs & loves to run and play. A small dog secure fenced yard is an ABSOLUTE NECESSITY for Carl. Carl likes to spend significant time outside every day. Carl loves car rides & to explore on his daily leash walk. We know virtually nothing about Carl’s past. He was picked up as a stray & taken to the local animal control as a scared boy who did not want to be touched. Our vet estimates that he is approximately 5 years old. It took days for him to decompress in a foster home. Carl is extremely afraid of strangers. He does not want them near him, moves away & tries to hide from them. He will get aggressive if strangers want to touch him & he is not allowed to move away. Carl’s fear is of humans, not dogs. Carl gets along well with the other dogs in his foster home & has shown interest in other dogs he has met. We want Carl to become as comfortable with an adopter as he learned to be with his foster & for everyone to be safe. Carl needs a patient adopter who will keep him & everyone he encounters safe, an adopter who understands that one slip up could cost him his life. Both because of his extreme fear of strangers, Carl can NEVER be let off leash outside of his small dog secure fenced yard. Strangers NEED TO BE TOLD that he needs space, that they can get down to Carl's level and pet him only after he shows he wants that. Carl needs a patient adopter without children with whom he can thrive. While prospective adopters’ children & Carl may form a mutual admiration society, it’s too much to expect their friends to understand just how different Carl’s fear makes his behavior. Carl makes a great companion once you earn his trust. Carl’s curls should be trimmed by a professional groomer every 8 to 10 weeks. Because of Carl’s extreme fear of strangers & unwillingness to be approached & touched by them, we found the only safe way for Carl to be groomed was at a vet’s office where he could be sedated, completely knocked out. We encourage you to see & learn more about Carl on his public Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61563018184933, or search FB on Carl Heather’s Foster Dogs. Carl is housetrained, neutered & microchipped as well as up to date on his vaccinations & monthly heartworm, flea & tick preventatives. If you are interested in meeting Carl, then using the menu at the top of the page, click on Adoption Application. Complete & submit your application, which will serve as the basis for a conversation, & you will be contacted.

Story
Daisy Mae, a 4 year old, 10 pound, spayed Shih Tzu mix, came to HFD a scared & anxious, but an ever so loving little girl. Daisy was treated for heartworm and also had a mammary cyst removed. Daisy Mae will follow you around the house and sit and watch tv with you for hours. If you work from home she will quietly lay next to you while you work. She just adores her humans. At bedtime she snuggles in bed with her humans. Daisy doesn't, however, like to be alone and will whine and bark for a bit when she's left at home. Daisy Mae gets along great with the other small dogs in her foster home. She just pretty much ignores them. Daisy loves to be out in the yard, so a small dog secure fenced yard would be best. Have a garden? Daisy will gladly help you pick and eat some things before you have the chance. She enjoys self-picked fresh out of the garden strawberries and melons. Even though the garden has wire fencing around it she is always magically finding a way in. She is super smart. She seems to be able to get wherever she wants. Even with a secure fenced yard Daisy should not be out unattended. Just a bit shy at first, so far Daisy has liked everyone she has met. She should be good with respectful kids 8 and up. Now when it comes to toys, Daisy Mae loves the soft ones. You will find her walking around carrying one of her favorites. Daisy Mae is housetrained with reminders. She is also spayed & up to date on vaccinations as well as current on heartworm and flea prevention. Daisy’s adoption fee is $495. You must complete and submit an adoption application before a meeting with Daisy Mae can be scheduled. The application serves as a basis for a conversation. Story
Sheldon is a four and a half year old mix breed, possibly Yorkie and Dachshund. We started him on a weight management diet ( he's a bit pudgy at 20 lbs). In his heart, Sheldon is a sweet, loving little guy. Regretfully, something in his past, of which we know almost nothing, has made him distrustful and snappish. What we do know of his past, he was surrendered by his owner at three and a half years of age with raw feet and large spots of missing hair on his back from an untreated flea infestation. The fleas are long gone and the hair has grown back, gaining his trust has been another story. After several months in a foster home he has come to adore his foster mom. She is allowed to do just about anything, even baths! For nails he goes to a groomer and really doesn't put up a fuss. He is normally fine with his foster dad, but less trustful and has bit him, nothing horrible, more of a warning. Sheldon gets along OK with the resident dog. He would, however, would probably prefer being an only pet. We know it's a long shot but Sheldon needs a home of his very own. We feel he'd do well with an experienced dog owner, someone who is loving, compassionate and would allow as much time as necessary to gain his trust. Sheldon has been OK with adult visitors. He will bark at them until they sit down, then he'll approach for pets. We do not trust him around children. He's put in a room with a gate when kids visit. When no one is home he's happy in his crate with a special treat. He will bark to alert you if he hears something. Therefore an apartment or condo would not be a suitable living arrangement. Sheldon loves to go outside to chase the squirrels, sniff around for other critters and he likes you to stay out with him. He does not like the rain or the snow. He enjoys being brushed and then rolling around on the floor to mess it all up again. He lives to sit in your lap so you can gently rub his ears. If you think you might be interested in adopting Sheldon, please take the time to fill out an application. Sheldon is up to date on vaccinations, neutered, microchipped & current on heartworm & flea preventatives. Sheldon’s adoption fee is $350. If you are interested in adopting, then please go to heathersfosterdogs.org. Click on Adoption Application. Submit your completed application, which will serve as the basis for a conversation, & you will be contacted. Meetings are by appointment only with a reviewed adoption application. We are located in the south suburbs of Chicago and serve the Chicago metropolitan area. We do not ship dogs.

Story
Looking for an already housetrained little black dog who will brighten your days for years to come? Consider Taurus. Taurus is an 18 month - 2 year old, 17 pound, neutered male Chihuahua/Min Pin/Yorkie mix (DNA tested). Taurus is a fun guy who may take his time to get to know you. He will then want to be your friend, go for walks with you, zoom around the yard whenever possible, perch high on a couch pillow while you watch TV or work on the computer & sleep in your bed (under the covers much of the time). Taurus is cautious when meeting new people. Taurus would love bonding & learning with his best friend while taking training classes. Our limited experience observing Taurus’s reaction to small children leads us to recommend a household without younger children. Taurus would consider a canine playmate a plus. He likes all the dogs he has met. The more time Taurus has spent with the dogs in his foster home, the more he has enticed them to play with him. A small dog secure FENCED yard is a must. Quick Taurus loves to roam & survey his domain. His preferred activity level is higher than average. Taurus is housetrained, neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and up to date on heartworm, flea & tick preventatives. Our vet’s exam showed Taurus to be 18 months to 2 years old & in excellent health. Taurus may not be a health food nut, but he considers broccoli as good as a few of the treats he has been offered. Oddly enough, although a chewer of sticks outside, we have not found a crunchy treat Taurus wants. He has favored several varieties of the soft ones. Taurus's adoption fee is $500. If you’re interested in Taurus, first you may want to see him in action & learn more about him on his public Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61566382906267) or search on Taurus of Heather’s Foster Dogs. If then you’re even more interested, then go to heathersfosterdogs.org. Using the menu at the top of the page, click on “Adoption Application.” Complete & submit an adoption application online. You will be contacted after it is forwarded to Taurus’s foster grandpa. No meeting will be scheduled before he has had an opportunity to review an application. *** Foster Location: South suburbs of Chicago. Please no applications outside the greater Chicagoland metropolitan area (within 2 hours) ***
