Story
Mikey is a 3 1/2 yr old mixed breed and weighs 55 pounds. He arrived here as one of a little of 4 puppies in the spring of 2021. They all had human boxer names. He was adopted 3 years ago and when his family’s circumstances changed, rather than contact the rescue for assistance in rehoming him, his family gave him away to a coworker about 1 1/2 years ago. Rover Rescue only learned of this because he was found by animal control and we were notified. He was skin and bones and had hair loss due to fleas and possible mange. Animal Control was going to put him down because he was so scared and growling. I am so thankful that we were called!! Mikey is now back in foster care and doing great. He is being treated for his skin rash and he is loving all his furry friends. He is very sweet and was only growling because he was so terrified. It would’ve been a tragedy to lose him. This is the second time this poor fella found himself needing his life to be saved. He is looking for a FOREVER home. One where he can live the good life and not a hint of worry about where his next meal is coming from or if he has a tomorrow! Update: His coat has filled back in to a beautiful black and brindle. He is 100% house trained, crate trained, and sniffed the kitties at the vet without issue. He is also bilingual. He understands some English and Spanish commands. He is great with other dogs and children. He is still a little afraid of intimidating adults, usually men, but does warm up to love them. He is altered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations. If you would like to meet this dog, please call or text Lorri, at 630-659-8814. Text is preferred. The adoption fee is $225. Adoption fee includes: - microchip - spay/neuter - age appropriate vaccinations: Bordetella, DH(L)PP, rabies - heartworm preventive & flea/tick preventive - deworming

Story
We adopted this sweet boy in August 2018 when he was just three months old. Chip was great with my two small children. He quickly won over our hearts with his sweetness, cleverness and his endless desire to share his toys. When we decided to adopt another dog in Aug. 2021, he adjusted to his new brother fine at first. His brother was 3 months old and a pit bull terrier mix. But as his brother grew bigger, so did Chip’s behavior. He did not like to share his toys or treats, and displayed signs of dominance and aggression towards his brother that would oftentimes result in fights. On top of that, there was a major change in our household when I split from my partner last year, and this exacerbated the divisiveness between his fur brother. In my kids’ best interest, it is with a heavy heart to have to try to find a new home for Chip, as we feel he would thrive best in a sole dog household where he can truly display his fierce loyalty and lovability for years to come. Fast facts: • Age: 6 years • Weight: 68 lbs • He is up to date with his shots. • House and crate trained (I leave him in common living room/dining area during the days when I’m at work). • Sleeps well in a dog bed, but is spoiled and usually sleeps in the bed with me. • Not so good on a leash, but that can be corrected with daily practice. I just let him go to the bathroom in the fenced in backyard and also to run around. • Does great in the car and on long car rides (1.5 hour trips). If you would like to meet Chip, please call Teri at 630-897-7454. His adoption fee is $150.

Story
Nikki is about 10 years old and a Belgian Malinois mix. She has been let down by her people the last 3 years. Nikki is an incredible dog who was surrendered to a high kill shelter through no fault of her own. She came up to Rover and has been a doll ever since. Nikki thrives with her people. She has been good with the other dogs she has met and just walks past them but her people are her whole world. She attaches to her human and does not let them out of her sight. Nikki loves to be pet and cuddled by her human. Nikki would not do well in a house with kids therefore an adult only home is a must. She could be an only dog or she could be with other dogs, just not small animals, due to her prey drive. Nikki is housebroken and crate trained. She loves her stuffed animals and will sleep with them and will carry them around the house. She loves to go for walks and be in the back yard with her humans and matches the energy of the house. Nikki is up to date on her immunizations, is spayed and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $150. If you would like to hear more about this special girl please call Jen 630-801-3294 and she will call you on her next day off. Adoption fee includes: - microchip - spay/neuter - age appropriate vaccinations: Bordetella, DH(L)PP, rabies - heartworm preventive & flea/tick preventive

Story
Eddie is 2 to 3 year old whippet/lab mix and weighs about 40 lbs. He is the sweetest little guy you’d ever meet. He loves people. He’s shy at first, but once he gets to know a person, he loves his people. He’s good with other dogs as long as he is introduced slowly. He had a foster sister that he loved to play with, but she got adopted. He is a runner; he snuck past me and we did have to chase him down the street. Luckily, he is food motivated and with the help of some neighbors we enticed him with the food and got him back but again this is probably one of the reasons why he wound up in the animal shelter. He is house trained as long as he is kept on a schedule. He’s not crated when we leave and does fine. He doesn't need a fenced yard as long as he gets his exercise. He just loves his people and he's not super high energy, so if you’re interested in learning more about him, call Denise at 630-439-6541. The adoption fee is $225. Adoption fee includes: - microchip - spay/neuter - age appropriate vaccinations: Bordetella, DH(L)PP, rabies - heartworm preventive & flea/tick preventive

Story
Hi my name is Frank! I am a 1 year old big boy at 60 lbs. but don't let my size fool you because I'm the biggest cuddle bug! I was dumped at a police station! Thank goodness a nice police officer took me home and got me into a foster home because I hear animal control can be a scary place for a pup like me. I have been staying with my girls at Ruffner's until I find my forever home. I thought I found my forever home once but that only lasted 3 weeks. Even though the girls at Ruffner's told them I have a lot of separation anxiety from being dumped and moving homes, they still put me in a crate for 8+ hours a day. It made my separation anxiety even worse and they returned me. Before I was adopted I was also doing great playing in groups of dogs but after I was returned I was nervous with dogs. My girls at Ruffner's aren't really sure what happened during those 3 weeks I was gone but it definitely wasn't good. I would do best in a home were someone can be home with me until I feel safe enough to be left on my own. I'm very smart and food motivated and I love going on walks! I love to chew on bones and play fetch. I need a fenced yard or at least someone who is a runner and can make sure I get lots of exercise. I really don't like cats. With proper introduction I would be okay with other dogs around my size. I'm up to date on all my vaccinations, microchipped, neutered and heartworm negative. If you are interested in me, contact Hannah or Jenn at ruffners1880@gmail.com. The adoption fee is $225 Adoption fee includes: - microchip - spay/neuter - age appropriate vaccinations: Bordetella, DH(L)PP, rabies - heartworm preventive & flea/tick preventive - deworming
