Story
Before Hercules was, well, Hercules, he was an awkward, slightly scrawny guy who didn’t know how to control his own strength. But with dedication and some help from Phil, Herc matures into the hero we all know and love. Can you be Phil for a big, strong dog who needs more training and time to be his best self? Pepper is our Herc -- lovable and heroic but not always aware of his size and strength. He's a 5 year old pup who's been through a lot of change, and we're looking for a constant companion to coach him through the rest of his life. Our big guy hasn't had the most consistent, easy time lately. He was underweight and physically unwell for a big chunk of this year, but he's feeling so much better these days. He currently weighs about 120 lbs and needs to gain more weight. He's neutered, microchipped, and current on vaccinations. As we've gotten to know him, we've realized how responsive Pepper is to his friends and how much he loves to spend time with his person. Pepper is incredibly intelligent (and handsome, of course). He's eager to learn new skills and to practice his cues in exchange for some delicious snacks, particularly string cheese. Pepper's ideal family is one that can provide him with lots of activities to satisfy all of his instinctual needs and plenty of adventures to keep his brain and body busy. He is not a lazy, low-key kind of dog -- this guy has energy to spare and wants to be on the move.Pepper loves to run and play -- and, more than anything else, CHASE ALL THE SQUIRRELS. And sometimes bunnies. We need to find a strong handler who can manage his exuberant desire to chase and who can give him space to prance and pounce. A home with no other animals and no children would be best. A big, secure yard would be great, but Pepper would also thrive with an active, outdoorsy lifestyle.Pepper would love to have adult humans in his life who have the time to rub his belly, play games, take him for car rides, train, and exercise. He's a hard-working boy with so much potential. Will you be his Phil? For more information about our adoptable dogs and/or to submit an adoption inquiry, please visit meridianrescue.org.

Story
Introducing Willard, a dynamic and intelligent boy with a zest for life. This 5-year-old adoptable dog is a true blue-collar type of guy, seeking a home where his active nature can be embraced. Willard is a bundle of energy, always ready for an adventure and eager to engage both his brain and body. With his striking appearance and charming personality, he is sure to capture the hearts of those around him.Willard's smarts shine through in his quick learning abilities and problem-solving skills. He has continued his training here at MCR and is always eager to learn more. Willard is a country boy at heart so he'd love a big space to play in and to not be bothered by the hectic city life. Because of his strong instinctual need to herd objects or people in motion, he thrives in an environment that provides mental stimulation and challenges his intellect. Whether it's puzzle toys, agility training, or interactive games, Willard is always up for the challenge. This active pup will succeed in a home that can offer him plenty of opportunities to exercise and engage in activities that keep his mind sharp.Willard would love to have hoomans of his own who will love him daily, cuddle with him, and give him plenty of enrichment to keep his mind busy and his body active (and keep him out of trouble from boredom). As we've mentioned before, Willard is pretty much a genius. He's a hard-working boy and despite his high energy levels, Willard is a loving and affectionate companion. He forms strong bonds with his human counterparts and is the best friend you could ever have. His zest for life is contagious, and he will bring an abundance of laughter and excitement to any household that can match his enthusiasm. Willard prefers to be the only "child" in the house, so no other animals and no children, please. If you're looking for a four-legged companion who can keep up with your active lifestyle and bring endless fun to your days, Willard is the perfect match for you. Adopt him today and embark on an incredible journey filled with adventures and cherished memories. For more information about our adoptable dogs and/or to submit an adoption inquiry, please visit meridianrescue.org.

Story
Ellie’s goal in life is to be your best friend! She has the sweetest, gentlest heart and loves everyone though she can be shy the first few minutes of meeting you. We hope the most amazing family snags her up. Until then, we are loving on her. Ellie is a bit of a clown and makes up her own games for everyone’s entertainment; there is no limit to her creativity. You can’t help but laugh when she pushes the ball underneath the couch or hides it behind a pillow just so she can make a game of trying to get it out again, well, or get you to fetch it for her when she can’t reach it after all. Ellie loves going for walks and if you leash her up and she gets tired of waiting for you to get out the door she can pick up the handle and walk herself… isn’t that nifty? She also loves toys, playing fetch, searching for a ball we hide for her, and using her athletic abilities for jumping, climbing etc. Being a lively girl she will definitely need daily exercise but she is actually gentle when playing and settles down well. She takes treats gently out of your hand and loves belly rubs. She is generally well mannered and doesn’t even take food off the coffee table she could easily reach. You probably guessed already but Ellie is super smart and has a blast learning and doing new things and going new places. We think an active family is best for her, maybe one with older kids to play with and plenty of activities to engage her mind and body. She can be a bit of an escape artist, so she would need a fenced in backyard, or be monitored while she is outside because she has jumped a 6 foot fence before.Ellie is good with older kids (preferably ones that are over 12). She will need to be the only dog in the home as she does not get along well with dogs. She also shouldn't be trusted around cats because she loves to chase them! She is house-trained and crate trained. She can be uncomfortable in the car the first few times you take her but once she trusts you she loves going for rides.Ellie is 6 years old.If you’re interested in Ellie, please fill out an adoption form on our website. For more information about our adoptable dogs and/or to submit an adoption inquiry, please visit meridianrescue.org.

Meet Abby: Your Special Canine Companion Background: Abby is a beautiful and unique blend of three different hound mixes and a Border Collie, making her a truly one-of-a-kind companion. At 5 years old, Abby is in the prime of her life, filled with a playful spirit Abby is a bit shy, but with a patient and loving approach, she will become more comfortable. Transitioning to a new home will require a gentle touch and understanding as she settles into her new environment. Needs: This sweet girl craves patience, love, and regular exercise to bring out her best self. Abby is already housebroken and crate trained. However, it's important to note that Abby is not compatible with cats, and a home with children would be not be ideal for her.  Personality: Abby is a smart, loving, and playful companion. Her previous obedience training highlights her potential to be a well-behaved and loyal addition to a loving family. Breed Traits: Hound Mixes: Hounds are known for their keen sense of smell and hunting instincts. Abby may exhibit some of these traits, such as a strong nose and a love for exploring scents. Border Collie: Border Collies are highly intelligent, energetic, and trainable. Abby’s Border Collie mix means she’s likely quick to learn new commands and enjoys mental stimulation . Ideal Home: Abby would thrive in a quiet home with a fenced-in yard, providing her with a safe space to explore and play. A household with minimal activity and fewer people coming and going would suit her well. If you are seeking a devoted furry friend who will appreciate a calm and stable environment, Abby might be the perfect match. Story
We're ready to find a caring home for a sweet little guy who struggles with fear/anxiety but sure plays a mean game of fetch. Let us tell you all about Shadow. At 8 years old, Shadow is a sensible adult dog. He's well past puppy theatrics and now knows a lot more about himself and what he wants out of his life, namely adult humans to play with each day. Shadow is a shy guy. He does much better with adults who respect his space and allow him to make the first move -- and then he's eager to solicit affection and play.He came into foster care with us when his family started caring for a small child, and he became really uncomfortable. With his foster mom, Chandice, Shadow is doing quite well. He loves having a routine with a trusted adult and no kids or other animals in the home. Chandice says that Shadow can be somewhat reactive to dogs outside, but he is good at communicating when he is feeling stressed."Shadow needs to feel comfortable. Whoever adopts Shadow will need to be very patient with him. He loves playing catch with his squeaky small balls! Shadow will be a great little companion for the right person who will have patience with him."We'd love to find some patient, quiet adults who can give this little man a comfortable home. Adopters with shy/fearful dog experience would be a great fit for Shadow, and we'll provide more support and resources to anyone interested in making him a member of the family. For more information about our adoptable dogs and/or to submit an adoption inquiry, please visit meridianrescue.org.

Story
Hi! My name is Rocky, and obviously, I am a dog. Yes, I have four legs and stick my nose in other people's business, if you know what I mean. I wanted to tell you about myself so that we could get started off on the right paw. Some of my daily needs: besides food, water, shelter, and the most important one, love, I also need enrichment and training. Think of enrichment as mental and sensory stimulation for me because when I get it, I am a Good Dog. When I don't, I chew up shoes, tear through trash cans, and other dog behavior you might already know about. So puzzles with food hidden in them, shreds like paper bags with a few high value treats are always top on my list, and thingsto smell so that I can track it down and maybe get a treat reward at the end. But following my nose is the most important.I also love training. Working with my human is the highlight of my day because it makes me feel like I am doing something of value. I love scent work with Predation Substitute Training, loose leash walking (which sometimes I forget when I see a squirrel or mouse and bail, but I come back and like the game). I also like working for my food and doing all the MCR cues. Now that I have covered all my daily needs, let's talk about likes and dislikes. I love cuddling with my human, working, shredding, and playing tug. I also enjoy learning new things, going to new places, meeting new people and pina coladas and getting caught in the rain. What I don't like is being manhandled or having people petting me over the head. Under the chin, please, slow, smooth, soft pets and follow the PPP -- Pet, Pet, Pause -- so I can decide if I want more. I like having choices.I am a friendly dog once you get to know me, but I am aloof with strangers. I am loyal and loving to my human but have a strong will and am definitely goal-oriented. Once I get a mission, all I want to do is accomplish it. Although I am a positive happy dog, there are some things you want to avoid: like fetch. I love that game and will get totally lost in the fetch world and that will become the thing I am. You definitely want to pay attention to me while on walks because when I see something I want or like I tend to shoot off like a bolt of lightning to get it. Also, pay attention when I get really vocal because that is how I am telling you I need to go potty. Other than things mentioned above, I am a good dog. I have an award somewhere, maybe I chewed it up. It did look like a chew toy, so things happen sometimes, but I hope to meet you soon.(Rocky's bio is courtesy of the EPIC handlers who have cared for and trained him.
