Story
Miss Gordita is the sweetest little pit bull/boxer mix that you will meet! She is very loving and playful and always wants to be the center of attention! She loves to spend time outside, sniffing in the yard and finding herself good little tokens to take home. She once caught herself a little mushroom, but after a mild moment of despair and panic the staff discovered this to be a safe edible mushroom. Gordita was none the wiser to why everyone was so hurriedly watching a mushroom identification video. To her the world is a wonderful place filled with many new snacks to snacks upon. She knows her basic commands, and is very food motivated so she is very trainable. She definitely has us trained as well though, as she puts on the best puppy dog face! Gordita arrived with some leash issues, specifically related to walking past other dogs. This has been well corrected in her time here at the shelter with positive reinforcement! She is a very devoted girl and has been patiently waiting here at the shelter for the right person to come along! During her stay at the shelter, staff noticed that Gordita had some on and off GI upset and Gordita did end up going to the vet for surgery. Veterinarians said that Gordita has some tummy problems that are likely genetic, so now Gordita is on an easy to digest diet that keeps her comfortable. She is a tummy ache survivor!! We are not sure why Gordita is still in shelter a year after her intake. We believe her to be a wonderful dog deserving of a real home with a real family, and we hope you may be that person! If you are interested in meeting Gordita, please apply on our website in order to indicate your interest. We will be in touch via email to schedule your appointment!Gordita is spayed, microchipped, and fully vaccinated. Gordita`s adoption fee is waived, as she has kindly been sponsored by her dedicated fan club.

Story
Portobella is the sweetest 2-year-old pittie mix! She is quite small for her breed, but she has some muscle and she is a very active dog! Portobello loves to greet us in the morning and knows exactly who her humans are. She is a very food-motivated pup, making training with her much easier! Portobella is such a baby, and does not always know how to express her emotions best. Sometimes she gets so excited to see you that she forgets whether she wants to snuggle or zoom, leading to a ridiculous game of `flop, sprint, flop, spin spin spin, sprint, flop`. Portobella has been in foster in the past, but did return to shelter care simply because the cat of the home decided that Bella was no longer a welcome guest due to her being of the canine genre. From her foster family: Portobella is the sweetest cutest goofball ever!! she has such a funny personality and all she wants is love and cuddles. She is a HUGE cuddle bug and loves to curl up on the couch with you!! She has lots and lots of energy and adores going on walks, runs, hikes, or doing anything out and about!! She is super food motivated and wants to please so badly and she is so attentive to voice commands which makes training easy!Bella has been through what us old folks call `the ringer`. She has struggled to find her place in the world, meaning that she has not had a chance to build herself a foundation of trust. She struggles to know who is here to love her vs who is just big and scary. She is looking for an experienced dog owner, preferably one who knows what it`s like to be hurt and have to learn to trust again. Bella has done well with dogs in the past, but struggles with reactivity that can make it hard to introduce her to new pups. We believe that once Bella has established a good foundation of trust and stability she will learn readily. If you are ready to meet Portobella, please send in a dog application on our website. We will be in touch to schedule an appointment for you two to meet. Portobella is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on all of her vaccines. Her adoption fee has been sponsored by an amazing donor.

Story
Dako is a special guy waiting for his special person. Due to his traumatic past, he is shy around new people and a bit selective when it comes to making friends. His ideal future owner will take the time to get to know him and build a trusting relationship. Once Dako trusts you, it truly is so special! He just wants to cuddle in your lap and walk right by your side. Dako has shown some dog reactivity and a high prey drive. For these reasons, we would like to see him go to an adult-only household where he is the only pet. Our vets believe that when Dako was a puppy he had joint malformation which required splints. It seems that Dako never got those splints causing his joints to develop poorly which means he walks a little funny and might have some joint pain. This goofy guy just wants a fresh start with the right person who will love him as he is! To meet Dako, please fill out an adoption questionnaire on our website so that we can get you scheduled for an appointment.Dako is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all of his vaccines. His adoption fee is $175.

Story
Captain Jack is the sweetest, goofiest boy you will meet! He came into our care after being brought to the WSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital with injuries over his back. Jack got stitched up and has been recovering in a foster home ever since. He has recovered well and shown us that he is the sweetest boy! He was fairly matted when he came into our care and is now rocking a short coat. His coat is working on growing back out and he may look a little silly for a while, though we think it just adds to his character. This big guy loves to go on long walks, play, and snuggle with his favorite people! Captain Jack, (also referred to as Jackson, Jack Jack, and The Captain) is potty trained, crate trained, and knows his basic commands. He is working on his recall and is doing really well, partially due to the fact that he never wants to be too far from his human at any time. Jack has come a long way with his leash manners but does still pull when he sees a squirrel or an outdoor cat. Weighing 90 pounds, he definitely can get some leverage when he pulls and he would do best in a home that can handle his size. We are unsure if Jack understands `shepherd` means he should be tending the flock, as he would really like to chase small animals. To set Jack up for the best success, he would like to go to a home with like sized animals. He loves learning new tricks and is very smart. Jack is very food motivated, making training with him a breeze! He loves frozen kongs, hard chew toys, and lick mats. This sweet boy would love nothing more than to run around in a backyard chasing toys and then come inside to snuggle up on your lap. Despite his large size, Jack has convinced himself that he is a lap dog and will make his way up onto your bed to cuddle while you fall asleep or are just relaxing. To meet Jack, please send in an adoption application on our website. He is so ready to meet you and let you fall in love!Jack is neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations. Jack is a Hope Fund dog, meaning that his life saving veterinary measures were paid for via amazing donors and specialized savings for critical care animals. The adoption fee for a Hope Fund dog is $400, which goes towards replenishing our lifesaving fund.

Story
The Creature Feature is here! The creatures are a pack of three male medium to large breed mixes that are full of love. These boys are total chaos in the way that every puppy should be. They have been through the ringer in life, from fending for themselves to facing off with the uncertainty of their health. Well, they have come out the winners! These boys have had a clean bill of health from the vet and are now ready to find their forever homes.Zombie is the most calm of his litter, but that`s not saying much! Zombie is a total softy, but can stick up for himself if he needs to during their daily play fighting. This boy is looking for a family that is ready to work on his basic obedience, as well as his confidence. Zombie is so delicate and can struggle to act himself in new environments. With the right family, we know he will blossom into a confident young man that is ready to take on the world! If you are ready to meet some creatures, please send in a dog application on our website. We will be in touch to schedule an appointment for you to join the chaos!Zombie`s adoption fee is $175. He is up to date on vaccines, neutered, and microchipped.
