Story
Miss Gordita is the sweetest little pit bull/boxer mix that you will meet! She is very loving and playful and always wants to be the center of attention! She loves to spend time outside, sniffing in the yard and would love to go to a home with a fenced in backyard. She knows her basic commands, and is very food motivated so she is very trainable. She definitely has us trained as well though, as she puts on the best puppy dog face! Gordita has shown some dog reactivity, but has been getting better on walks here at the shelter. Because of this, we think Gordita would do best as the only pet in the home. She is a very devoted girl and has been patiently waiting here at the shelter for the right person to come along! During her stay at the shelter, staff noticed that Gordita had some on and off GI upset and Gordita did end up going to the vet for surgery. Veterinarians said that Gordita has some tummy problems that are likely genetic, so now Gordita is on special food and it seems to be helping. Despite her challenges, Gordita is a playful girl and is still waiting for her forever home! She has been in the shelter for over a year now and she is patiently waiting for the right person to come along!Gordita is spayed, microchipped, and fully vaccinated. Her adoption fee is $400 which helps replenish our Hope Fund for animals that have needed a bit more medical care while being here at the shelter. If you are interested in meeting Gordita, please call or email us at staff@whitmanpets.org to schedule an appointment!

Story
Dako is a special guy waiting for his special person. Due to his traumatic past, he is shy around new people and a bit selective when it comes to making friends. His ideal future owner will take the time to get to know him and build a trusting relationship. Once Dako trusts you, it truly is so special! He just wants to cuddle in your lap and walk right by your side. Dako has shown some dog reactivity and a high prey drive. For these reasons, we would like to see him go to an adult-only household where he is the only pet. Our vets believe that when Dako was a puppy he had joint malformation which required splints. It seems that Dako never got those splints causing his joints to develop poorly which means he walks a little funny and might have some joint pain. This goofy guy just wants a fresh start with the right person who will love him as he is! Dako is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all of his vaccines. Please call 590-332-3422

Story
M.I.A. (aka Mia) is a 1 ½ year old hound mix. When this sweet girl came into the shelter she was extremely emaciated. She was placed in a foster home where she was able to recover, gain weight, and learn that people can be just as loving as she is. Despite her rough past, Mia is always looking for a belly rub or a cozy lap to wiggle onto. If you forget that you were petting Mia, she will give you a soft paw slap or a gentle mouthy reminder. Mia doesn’t know that she reached her goal weight and still loves to chow down as fast as she can, so she uses a slow feeder. Although Mia is very loving, she does take some time to warm up to new people. She is looking for a home that can respect her boundaries and can give her the patience and love that she deserves! As Mia can be a bit shy, we think she may do best in a home without small children. In her ideal world, Mia would find her forever home with someone who is willing to help her continue to build her confidence, provide lots of scratches and cuddles, and who is committed to helping her feel at home and open up in a new environment when she goes home! When it takes a year and a half to be shown love, it’s easy to feel like it can be taken away at any moment. Mia has some separation anxiety, so her ideal future guardian will be someone who spends a lot of time at home, or someone who is ready to teach her that they will always return home.Mia’s adoption fee is $175. She is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on her vaccines! If you are interested in meeting this special girl, please call us at 509-332-3422 or email us at staff@whitmanpets.org to schedule an appointment.

Story
DeWalt is a 2 year old coonhound who would love a job! He would love to work and run around in his new home. He is a smart, young guy who we think would respond well to training. He is also very food motivated, making training with him a breeze! DeWalt is ready to be given a task and work for the rest of his life! He has developed a bit of anxiety after not having a job to do, but he has a bay that says he is ready to work! His lovely singing voice has caused some neighborly tension in the past, so we are looking for a forever home where neighbors won’t be disturbed by his bay. After DeWalt goes on a run, he’s ready to curl up in his bed and cuddle. He loves his floppy hound ears scratched and will quickly fall asleep in your lap if you let him.We are looking for a home for DeWalt where he has lots of room to run around and that is outside of city limits. We are looking to place him in a home that is familiar with working breeds and is serious about giving him a job. While he is a very sweet dog, we think he would do best in a home without small children as he is a very large, energetic guy!DeWalt’s adoption fee is $175. He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on his vaccines! Please call us or email us at staff@whitmanpets.org if you are interested in meeting him!

Story
Pinecone is a 1 year old mixed breed dog. This sweet girl came into the shelter quite shy and scared, but opened up to staff after a couple days and was the sweetest little wrecking ball! Pinecone goes head first into your lap for love, and has therefore been granted this “wrecking ball” status. Pinecone is very sweet and loves showing her affection. In Pinecone’s first week here at the shelter, she began to show some abnormal respiratory symptoms that warranted an emergency vet visit. After an exam and an endoscope procedure, it was determined that Pinecone was showing signs of subcutaneous emphysema. While this condition can be recurring, Pinecone has been safe and healthy ever since and is currently thriving in her foster home with her foster brother, a male Newfoundland. This emphysema was likely caused by the fragment of a toy lodging in Pinecone’s esophagus, so good quality toys are a must for her. Pinecone has done great with her foster brother and, given proper introductions, could live with other dogs! Pinecone would do best in an active home as she regularly enjoys going on runs in her foster home. If you are looking for a companion who will greet you with a big smile and tail wags, Pinecone could be a good fit! Please be sure to schedule a visit with Pinecone before arriving at the shelter. As she is in a foster home, she is unable to meet any walk-in visitors. Pinecone’s adoption fee is $175. She is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on her vaccines. If you are interested in meeting her, please call or email us at staff@whitmanpets.org.
