Story
Timber came into the shelter as a stray along with Trixie. Like all strays, we have no history for him and we are learning more about him every day. What we know so far is that he is very sweet! We've been told that he is not good with cats. Also, he's not gentle when taking treats, which would be an issue with small children. As we learn more about her we will update his bio. Until then, stop on by and see this sweetheart in person. All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped and spayed or neutered (if they are old enough) before they leave the shelter. Please fill out an application if you are interested in this dog or call us today for more information     Because we are an all-volunteer organization, please call ahead to schedule a time for a Meet & Greet so we can ensure a dog handler is available to show you the dog or dogs you are interested in.     Pet Adoption League  1526 N. Story
Archie is in a foster home. Here's what his foster family has to say about him.  He has been such a joy to foster.  We've been showering him with love and cuddles and trying our best to give him the exercise he needs.  Sometimes he'll try to be a lap dog and will try to find a way to throw himself across you while you're sitting.   He is very loyal and has to be around people at home. He loves to be right at your side when it's time to settle down. He likes to follow any of our family members around the home.   Archie now knows how to sit and give you paw on command. He has A LOT of energy and oftentimes will jump when he's excited. I think he thinks he's smaller than he is.   He will need lots of exercise every day and definitely a large yard to run in. He gets 2 walks on most days and plenty of time in the sunshine running with his toys in the yard. He loves when we toss a ball or his other toys. He hasn't quite mastered how to drop or return them yet. But he seems like he could do it for hours if you let him. He also loves the zoomies and is quite athletic. He does seem to get separation anxiety if we need to leave him home to go drop the kids off at school or run to the grocery store.  When we do leave on these short occasions, and we've attempted to leave him to roam to a limited area on our downstairs floor.  Unfortunately, he tends to ignore his toys and will go straight to chew on household items instead. However, he doesn't touch anything other than his toys when someone is around.   He does sleep in a crate at night and does just fine when it's time to sleep. He rarely barks and is completely potty trained. He loves going for car rides. We have a smaller dog we rescued many years ago. Archie gets along with her just fine. However, because Archie is a little clumsy around her, he can sometimes walk over her and inadvertently pushes her around.   I've heard him bark and have a small growl towards bigger dogs (they were big labs) during a walk. But he doesn't have this reaction with all dogs.   All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped and spayed or neutered (if they are old enough) before they leave the shelter. Please fill out an application if you are interested in this dog or call us today for more information     Because Archie is in a foster home, please call ahead to schedule a time to meet him. The foster family will bring him to the shelter.   Pet Adoption League  1526 N. Story
Meet Rita: Your Happy Companion! About Rita: Rita is a spirited and happy young lady with a big personality. We believe she is a Rhodesian Ridgeback mix, she embodies the best traits of the breed with her athletic build, intelligence, and loyalty. She thrives on attention and is eager to be the center of your world. Rita had an outing and spent the day at the home of one of our volunteer couples. They said she was wonderful in their home and enjoyed driving around town. As we learn more about her, we have found that she does get along with some dogs. However, she is selective on which dogs she likes. Because of this, she is not one that would do well in a dog park. Health & Care: Rita is in excellent health, up-to-date on her vaccinations, and spayed. She has an energetic nature and benefits from regular exercise and mental stimulation. Rita responds best to a confident handler who can provide consistent training and guidance. What Rita Needs: Rita is looking for a dedicated and loving home where she can receive the attention and care she deserves. She’s a great fit for an active family or individual who can match her energy and provide her with plenty of playtime, training, and affection. She would do best as the only dog in the household.    Are you ready for a new jogging partner? Rita would love to join you!   ***     Give Rita a chance  with our Foster-To-Adopt program ! *** All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped and spayed or neutered (if they are old enough) before they leave the shelter. Story
Meet Abby: Your Special Canine Companion Background: Abby is a beautiful and unique blend of three different hound mixes and a Border Collie, making her a truly one-of-a-kind companion. At 5 years old, Abby is in the prime of her life, filled with a playful spirit Abby is a bit shy, but with a patient and loving approach, she will become more comfortable. Transitioning to a new home will require a gentle touch and understanding as she settles into her new environment. Needs: This sweet girl craves patience, love, and regular exercise to bring out her best self. Abby is already housebroken and crate trained. However, it's important to note that Abby is not compatible with cats, and a home with children would be not be ideal for her.  Personality: Abby is a smart, loving, and playful companion. Her previous obedience training highlights her potential to be a well-behaved and loyal addition to a loving family. Breed Traits: Hound Mixes: Hounds are known for their keen sense of smell and hunting instincts. Abby may exhibit some of these traits, such as a strong nose and a love for exploring scents. Border Collie: Border Collies are highly intelligent, energetic, and trainable. Abby’s Border Collie mix means she’s likely quick to learn new commands and enjoys mental stimulation . Ideal Home: Abby would thrive in a quiet home with a fenced-in yard, providing her with a safe space to explore and play. A household with minimal activity and fewer people coming and going would suit her well. If you are seeking a devoted furry friend who will appreciate a calm and stable environment, Abby might be the perfect match. Story
Meet Shadow – a gentle soul who is waiting for a patient, loving person to help him thrive. At 8 years old, Shadow is an adult dog with a wise and thoughtful temperament. Gone are the days of puppy antics, and in their place is a dog who knows exactly what he wants: a calm, consistent routine and the companionship of an adult human who understands his needs. Though Shadow is a little shy and prone to anxiety, don’t let that fool you – he’s also a champion fetch player and absolutely adores his squeaky small balls!Shadow’s ideal home is one where he can feel secure and at ease. He thrives in an environment with adults who respect his boundaries and give him the space to make his own decisions. Once he feels comfortable, he’s eager to return the affection and will happily solicit attention and playtime from his trusted humans. Shadow may be reserved at first, but he is deeply loyal, and with time, he will show just how much love he has to offer.Since joining our farm, Shadow has made great strides in adjusting to his new routine. He loves the predictability of a steady schedule and a calm, quiet environment. He’s not suited to homes with young children or other animals, as they can cause him unnecessary stress. Though he can be reactive to other dogs outside, he’s great at communicating when he’s feeling overwhelmed, and with gentle guidance, he is able to express himself in healthy ways.Shadow’s journey will require patience and understanding. His ideal adopter will be someone who has experience with shy or fearful dogs or someone willing to put in the time to earn his trust. The reward, however, will be a devoted companion who loves nothing more than a game of fetch and quiet moments of connection. For the right person, Shadow will be an incredibly rewarding companion. If you’re an adult who understands the needs of a dog like Shadow and can offer him a peaceful, patient home, we would love to hear from you. With your guidance, Shadow will blossom into the wonderful companion he’s meant to be. We’re here to provide support and resources every step of the way as you welcome this sweet little guy into your life. Are you ready to be Shadow’s person? For more information about our adoptable dogs and/or to submit an adoption inquiry, please visit meridianrescue.org.
