Story
Ellie’s goal in life is to be your best friend! She has the sweetest, gentlest heart and loves everyone though she can be shy the first few minutes of meeting you. We hope the most amazing family snags her up. Until then, we are loving on her. Ellie is a bit of a clown and makes up her own games for everyone’s entertainment; there is no limit to her creativity. You can’t help but laugh when she pushes the ball underneath the couch or hides it behind a pillow just so she can make a game of trying to get it out again, well, or get you to fetch it for her when she can’t reach it after all. Ellie loves going for walks and if you leash her up and she gets tired of waiting for you to get out the door she can pick up the handle and walk herself… isn’t that nifty? She also loves toys, playing fetch, searching for a ball we hide for her, and using her athletic abilities for jumping, climbing etc. Being a lively girl she will definitely need daily exercise but she is actually gentle when playing and settles down well. She takes treats gently out of your hand and loves belly rubs. She is generally well mannered and doesn’t even take food off the coffee table she could easily reach. You probably guessed already but Ellie is super smart and has a blast learning and doing new things and going new places. We think an active family is best for her, maybe one with older kids to play with and plenty of activities to engage her mind and body. She can be a bit of an escape artist, so she would need a fenced in backyard, or be monitored while she is outside because she has jumped a 6 foot fence before.Ellie is good with older kids (preferably ones that are over 12). She will need to be the only dog in the home as she does not get along well with dogs. She also shouldn't be trusted around cats because she loves to chase them! She is house-trained and crate trained. She can be uncomfortable in the car the first few times you take her but once she trusts you she loves going for rides.Ellie is 6 years old.If you’re interested in Ellie, please fill out an adoption form on our website. For more information about our adoptable dogs and/or to submit an adoption inquiry, please visit meridianrescue.org.

Story
Meet Rita: Your Happy Companion! About Rita: Rita s a spirited and happy young lady with a big personality. We think she is a Rhodesian Ridgeback mix, she embodies the best traits of the breed with her athletic build, intelligence, and loyalty. She thrives on attention and is eager to be the center of your world. Rita had an outing and spent the day at the home of one of our volunteer couples. They said she was wonderful in their home and enjoyed driving around town. Health & Care: Rita is in excellent health, up-to-date on her vaccinations, and spayed. She has a strong, energetic nature and benefits from regular exercise and mental stimulation. Rita responds best to a firm and confident handler who can provide consistent training and guidance. What Rita Needs: Rita is looking for a dedicated and loving home where she can receive the attention and care she deserves. She’s a great fit for an active family or individual who can match her energy and provide her with plenty of playtime, training, and affection. Rita’s need for structure make her an ideal companion for someone who can offer both firm guidance and plenty of love. She would do best as the only dog in the household.   All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped and spayed or neutered (if they are old enough) before they leave the shelter. Story
Nala came into the shelter as a stray. Although she initially was afraid to get into a car, she was a champ when going to her vet appointment. She jumped right in and laid down for the short drive. Nala is a very sweet, young mixed breed. Like all strays, we have no history for her. She walks well on leash and appears to be house trained. If you’re looking for a loyal and loving friend, Nala might just be the perfect match. All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped and spayed or neutered (if they are old enough) before they leave the shelter. Story
Timber came into the shelter as a stray along with Trixie. Like all strays, we have no history for him and we are learning more about him every day. What we know so far is that he is very sweet! We've been told that he is not good with cats. Also, he's not gentle when taking treats, which would be an issue with small children. As we learn more about her we will update his bio. Until then, stop on by and see this sweetheart in person. All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped and spayed or neutered (if they are old enough) before they leave the shelter. Story
Meet Koda! Koda is a handsome, young Catahoula Leopard Dog. We believe he is close to a year old. Unfortunately, Koda's owner could no longer care for him. Koda has a lot of energy, which is typical for the breed. He is a bit shy and unsure as to why he is at the shelter, which is very common for strays. He loves to run and play. But, oh how he loves his belly rubs! Catahoula dogs are high energy and needs lots of exercise and mental stimulation. They can be great family dogs and companions. We are still getting to know him, but everyone that meets him thinks he is really sweet. If you are interested in him, please research the breed. All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped and spayed or neutered (if they are old enough) before they leave the shelter.
