Story
Luna is a stunning (almost) 3-year-old Chocolate Lab (birthday 4/27/22) who needs an active forever home. Taken in from a family who could no longer care for Luna, she has lived with her current family for the past 1.5 years. However, with 6 kids and their activities, farm animals, and other dogs in the household, this kind family has found they do not have the time that Luna deserves and asked us to help find Luna a forever home. The family shares, "Luna is probably the friendliest dog we’ve ever met. She is very loyal and full of energy. She LOVES to swim, it’s her favorite thing. She is good with other dogs and has been exposed to dogs her size and smaller dogs the size of a mini poodle. She is good with cats and she is good with kids - we have six, ages 3-14!" Luna likes to be included in the family's activities and if left outside on her own, she will bark to be let back in. She is a very people-oriented girl who loves to play and also loves to snuggle. Take a look at Luna's video. With 6 kids and many family obligations to focus on, Luna needs a bit of fine-tuning on things like leash-walking and jumping up. At 63 lbs, she is very food motivated so training should come along readily for this girl who is both smart and eager to please. Luna rides nicely in the car and knows the commands sit, lay down, and shake. Luna has been well-cared-for and is up-to-date on vaccination, is spayed, heartworm negative, and microchipped. If you are approved to adopt through SGRR, are home most of the day, and have an active lifestyle, please contact Cheryl Kewley to be considered to adopt this wonderful girl. Luna is being fostered in the northeast and would love to be in her forever home for her birthday on 4/27! Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to become an important, forever part of their life journey by continuing the rehabilitation we have begun. If not yet approved for adoption, please visit our website to learn more and to submit an online application. Click here to visit our website. Please contact us with any questions regarding your application status. PLEASE APPLY by submitting an application via this online link: Click for Adoption Application About Our Rescue Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready. The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Remi and Drake are good with respectful children, good with other dogs, but they are not sure about cats. Story
Talk about cool Dudes!!! This fellow is believed to be a Retriever/Anatolian Shepherd mix picked up in Jefferson County, LA. Dude is as sweet as can be and epitomizes the phrase "gentle giant." Dude loves nothing more than to be petted and loved on. Dude is a real lover-boy who is a pushover for a belly rub and is eager to bestow kisses on his human friends. One of his pictures was taken with a 4-day-old goat at the clinic that was having a procedure for its front legs. Look at how sweet and gentle Dude is with the kid. He crouched down to make himself as tiny as possible, all 98 lbs of him! He is truly a gentle giant. Dude is described as a big goofball who canters across the playyard like a pony. He is good with other dogs and is indifferent to the cats at the clinic. He enjoys retrieving but is also fine with simply chillin' like an old soul. He has a gentle heart and soulful, intelligent eyes. Dude will turn heads when out and about with his adopter and, with just a little work on the leash and some basic commands, he will be an AMAZING dog for some lucky adopter! Dude has SO much pawtential, the only thing he needs is for you to take him home! Dude is estimated to be about 1-2 years old, is up-to-date on vaccinations, neutered, micro-chipped, and heartworm negative. He has been given a Proheart-6 injection for 6 months of heartworm prevention and is in the northeast in a loving foster home. Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to become an important, forever part of their life journey by continuing the rehabilitation we have begun. Story
Courtesy Post "My name is Ginger and I am a lucky girl. Good Samaritans found me after I had a litter of puppies. I was emaciated and was wandering around their neighborhood in early December. Luckily they invited me in, fed me, and gave me a warm bed. They considered keeping me, but they already had two forever dogs. They tried to find my owner when they took me to a vet for a checkup but I was not micro-chipped. But maybe that was my lucky day because my former people didn't take very good care of me. For more than a month the kind people tried to find a rescue group to take me as all shelters and rescues were full. Then came the 8 inch snow storm in northwest Florida in January - CRAZY, right? Once again they called to see if there was room there, but there was not. One shelter even told them to put me back out on the street! Thankfully, the kind folks housed me through the storm but were going out of town within a week. Then through the rescue grapevine, I found a temporary foster home where I am now living. They take real good care of me and I'm gaining much-needed weight! I am now up-to-date on my vaccinations, spayed, and believe it or not, I am heartworm negative! My fur is coming back and I am feeling so much better. I am a pitty mix and approximately 7 years young with spring in my step. I weigh about 45 lbs now and I might have some brindle coloring...time will tell. I am the best snuggler and napper. I do not chew any inappropriate items or try to jump or dig under the fence. I am fully house-trained, trustworthy and I do not need a crate. We are working on leash walking and I will soon be the perfect companion. We don't know how I am with other dogs or cats, but I do like to chase squirrels; I like them so much I hop and run at the same time. My favorite spot will be sitting and sleeping beside you...ummmm....unless I am eating. I am good at that too!" Ginger is a COURTESY POST and is not an SGRR dog. Please contact Cheryl at 850-529-3182 (call/text) for more information. There is a $200 adoption fee for Ginger who comes fully vetted! She is in FL but transport arrangements will be made for her to travel north. Thank you!

Story
This cute-as-a-button mini-Australian Shepherd has been with her family since she was a puppy and has been well-cared for and loved. Now, with an active 2-year-old toddler, the two working parents do not feel they can meet Trixie's needs. Presently, Trixie is crated most of the day while her family works. Knowing it is best for Trixie, they made the difficult decision to seek a more suitable situation for their beloved pup. One of our rescuers totally lost her heart when she went to meet and evaluate Trixie. Our volunteer shares, "Be still, my heart! This little lady is as friendly as they come and warmed up to both my husband and myself within a few seconds! Trixie is well-trained and so incredibly friendly. She knows the commands sit, down, paw, leave it, and crate. She is very smart and when out walking on the leash, she took to my correction quickly when she started to pull. Trixie is eager to please and is seriously so darn cute!!" Her owners describe her as "sweet, kind, and loving." She is good with their toddler, and our volunteer watched Trixie follow the child from room to room with a cookie in his hand. While she was hoping he might drop it, she never tried to take the cookie herself. Such a good girl! Trixie was patient while being brushed, laying on the couch and enjoying the attention. Trixie can be dog-selective but she gets along well with family members' submissive dogs - one is a female Yorkie, and the other is a male German Shepherd. Her family reports that she is okay with cats. Trixie is good in the car but could use a little work on leash-walking skills. Trixie is trustworthy in the house and is housebroken. For the past year or so, she has needed to urinate about every 3-4 hours, not unlike most of us! Her owners had her tested for UTIs and had both x-rays and ultrasounds done to see if there was a reason for her more frequent need to pee, but all the tests show there is nothing physically wrong. We believe that once Trixie is in a quieter home, this need will subside. We are seeking a home for Trixie where someone is home most of the day and where being crated is the exception to the daily routine and is not the norm. Trixie will be 4 years old on 9/7/25 and has a moderate energy level. She weighs about 40 lbs, is spayed, vaccinated, and is heartworm negative. If you are approved to adopt through SGRR, have a calm home, and your specialty is TLC, please contact Donna to be considered to become Trixie's new best friend. If not yet approved, please fill out an application. Trixie is in NJ and is ready to meet you! Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. Story
Axel is a very sweet and very smart puppy. He is a border collie mix rescue from Texas. Axel is High energy and is not good with cats. We have a 6 year old cat that is very afraid of the puppy who goes for him every chance he gets. We have to keep them apart which is stressful. The cat is now acting out and going outside the litter box. I also work full time and can’t t give Axel the attention he needs as he is very active. He would be great in a home with other dogs. Crying as I write this but feel we are not the right fit for him.
