Story
RILEY HAS CANCER AND DESPERATELY NEEDS A FOSTER HOME! Riley has recently been diagnosed with lymphoma cancer and now needs a warm home and loving environment more than ever. Riley must be the only pet in an adult-only home and in a single family house so as to avoid close quarters with neighbor’s pets. He will probably take some time to bond again, but when he does, his loyalty is the real deal. As a foster family, AALOC will pay for all Riley's vet bills and medications. The team at AALOC will also be your support group for any questions or concerns you may have about Riley's care. You just need to provide Riley a safe and warm home, and the love and care he so desperately needs. Riley's story begins several years ago: It took several hours before anyone could corral Riley: he just could not believe his owner would abandon him behind AALOC. Riley just kept howling mournfully and would not respond to people who tried to get him to come towards him. He kept looking for his owner to come back for him - but they never did. Animal Control picked him up instead. No one claimed him, no one cared, except for one of our volunteers who made arrangements to have Riley come to AALOC. DNA testing reports that Riley is a Husky/American Staffordshire terrier mix and he weighs in at about 67 pounds. In general Huskies are intelligent, alert, outgoing, friendly and energetic. Typical traits of a Staffordshire terrier include tenacity, devotion, loyalty, attentiveness and courage. We think Riley demonstrates all of the above! Riley is a handsome, particularly smart dog that loves to play, go for walks, and meet new people. He is also a strong, quick dog that needs regular exercise of both his mind and body. Riley has been through special obedience training but still needs to be fostered by an experienced dog owner willing to provide the attention and patience Riley will need. Discipline and exercise, in conjunction with affection, is a must. If you feel you can provide the guidance and care Riley needs, please submit an application to foster Riley. Once your application is reviewed and approved we will contact you to make an appointment to visit us at AALOC to meet Riley and get to know him a bit. Or for more information regarding our foster program please call us at (714) 893-4393.

Story
When families break up everyone in the family is affected. We know Raul certainly suffered from a family that went through changes, although we only know half of his story. When Raul was found tied up in front of the AALOC kennel it was obvious he had been well cared for: his coat was shiny and smooth, he was well-fed and friendly. A trip to the vet confirmed Raul was healthy. The vet also found a microchip and the AALOC team was able to track down a phone number from one of the previous owners. When contacted the previous owner said one day he came home from work several years ago and his partner was gone with Raul, leaving no information about their whereabouts. He hadn’t heard or seen Raul again. Since then this owner has relocated to Chicago and can no longer care for Raul. So he surrendered Raul to AALOC. We are anxious to find a forever home for Raul but until he is formally adopted we are also looking for a foster family willing to shelter him since we’re sure Raul has only known a loving home in the past. Based on his physical attributes and personality we believe Raul may be a full-bred American Staffordshire Terrier. Strong, very intelligent and super energetic, Raul is a fun guy looking for a new owner capable of providing him the care and guidance he needs. Raul loves to walk and easily does a mile and a half with our volunteer. Raul also loves to play: one of his favorite games is tug-of-war with his big red rubber ball. Sometimes he even lets you get it for just long enough to throw it out so he can run after it again. He is affectionate and friendly with people and already knows some commands. Raul is sweet-natured and not extremely large, but he is still young and does require consistent discipline and plenty of exercise. In addition, we would not recommend a home with a smaller dog or animal, but Raul may be a good companion for a larger female dog. Please submit an application to adopt Raul on our website at www.aaloc.org. Once your application is reviewed and approved we will contact you to make an appointment to visit us at AALOC to meet Raul and get to know him a bit. Donation of $165 for dog adoption includes spay/neuter, vaccinations, and a microchip. Applications require a veterinary reference and home visit (in Orange County, CA). Story
Luke was rescued from the San Diego Humane Society. He is a young Plott Hound mix, approximately 74 pounds in weight. He is very majestic with stunning black and brown brindle fur, amber soulful eyes, and a tall muscular stature. According to the American Kennel Club the Plott Hound is intelligent, alert, and confident. He can be a tail-wagging, people-loving dog, but may be a bit standoffish, since he is extremely smart and focused. From a health perspective the AKC says Plotts are generally healthy dogs. A responsible breeder will have had the dog's parents screened for health concerns such as hip dysplasia. Pendant ears such as the Plott's can be prone to infection, so the ears should be checked regularly. Plott Hounds are tough, relentless athletes requiring lots of exercise and outdoor time. Daily vigorous exercise such as long walks or runs or play sessions with his owner will help to keep the Plott mentally and physically healthy. Please apply to adopt Luke at www.AALOC.org. Once your application is reviewed and approved we will contact you to make an appointment to visit us at AALOC to meet Luke and get to know him a bit. Story
ABOUT CASSIDY - FOSTER OR ADOPT OPPORTUNITY A small Chihuahua mix was thrown over a high fence and abandoned. This may sound very cruel and inhumane, but the story gets worse: the poor little dog is missing a paw and could have been further injured by the fall. The AALOC team found him terrified, cowering in fear. He was cold and scared and didn’t trust anyone. In addition, it was reported an individual saw Cassidy living on the streets with a homeless person before being abandoned. We don’t know the extent of Cassidy’s past, but we do know this life must have been very difficult for a small dog like Cassidy. Over time, members of the AALOC staff have been able to convince Cassidy humans can be trusted and Cassidy has become loving and affectionate with these specific individuals, but it will take a special, very patient person to win Cassidy’s love and trust as his new owner or foster parent. For this reason, we recommend Cassidy be adopted or fostered by an adult-only family. Cassidy’s missing paw doesn’t seem to impair his mobility at all. A veterinarian orthopedic surgeon examined Cassidy’s foot and could not determine if the injury was congenital or caused by trauma, and his medical recommendation was Cassidy does not need any treatment or surgery, and can live his life without restrictions As a foster parent, all costs, including all medical costs, for Cassidy would be paid for by AALOC. All you need to do is love and care for Cassidy. Please apply to foster or adopt Cassidy at www.AALOC.org. Once your application is reviewed and approved, we will contact you to make an appointment to visit us at AALOC to meet Cassidy and get to know him a bit.
