Gunner IS AVAILALBE (updated 02-11-2025).To meet any of our dogs you must first complete our online adoption application on our website. For more information and the adoption application for Gunner, please visit our website belowhttp://www.coastalgsr.org/dog_profile.php?ID=21838&name=GunnerHere&#39s the thing about this really smart, handsome, smart, gorgeous, smart GSD: He&#39s smart. He can also be stubborn. He&#39s like a teenage boy in the body of a GSD. ð&#194&#159&#194&#152&#194&#129Gunner is just about the most well trained dog in our rescue. He&#39s been working on his obedience game for over a year and knows all of the tricks. He has a relationship with certain volunteers in which he understands they are the leaders and he is the follower. Once you achieve that relationship with him, he&#39s just about the most fun canine companion in the world! But, and here&#39s the but, you don&#39t have that relationship with him yet. As smart as he is, he&#39s not a well oiled machine who is the same dog with different people. He is going to be a dream dog for someone who likes to work their dogs, but he is going to be a handful for someone who doesn&#39t. Around 6-7 years of age, Gunner is your typical working dog with lots of energy who is smart as a whip, loves to run and play, and adores his people. He craves work, loves a job, and would probably enjoy agility. He&#39s adorable, loving, affectionate, playful, and needs a home with GSD/working dog experience or he will take the lead position and become overly protective. If you&#39re looking for a smart puppy who would love to be part of an active home, Gunner is your boy!The minimum adoption donation for adults is $375 and the adoption donation for puppies is $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible. The adoption donation provides that all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis ( i.e., puppies who will need to be altered by 6 mos old). Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.February 11, 2025, 4:40 pm

Ivan IS AVAILALBE (updated 02-11-2025).To meet any of our dogs you must first complete our online adoption application on our website. For more information and the adoption application for Ivan, please visit our website belowhttp://www.coastalgsr.org/dog_profile.php?ID=22254&name=IvanIvan is a big boy. Not in the way that people stumble around extra husky gents by calling them â&#194&#128&#194&#156big,â&#194&#128&#194&#157 but his frame- his super sized frame seems like it was created to build pyramids or move mountains or, at minimum, to reach things on the highest shelf. This handsome XL fella, around 5 years old, has made so much progress since his rescue. At the shelter, he wouldnâ&#194&#128&#194&#153t come out of his run. He was freaked out when they tried to leash him up, frantically bolting to escape, gator rolling to avoid being handled, and refusing to be coaxed out of his run with food and even a puppy friend. He wasnâ&#194&#128&#194&#153t a candidate for public adoption, so a rescue became his only option.Step one was to get him comfortable with us and step two was to get him on a slip lead. We made slow but steady progress, but it was clear that everything was new and overwhelming to him. We worked on building confidence, trust, and obedience. Now he was comfortable enough to go for a walk around the neighborhood. Next, we started getting him comfortable with getting in a car, which terrified him at first. He can now go on walks with volunteers, enjoys checking out the local message boards, and loves a car ride to Home Depot. Ivan has had a long road, but heâ&#194&#128&#194&#153s ready to join a family: a family who understands that he still might be fearful of some new things and heâ&#194&#128&#194&#153s going to need a little time to get used to your routine. A family who can show him structure, is patient, and knows that the time they put into working with Ivan will pay off ten fold. A family who can show Ivan there are people who consider dogs part of the family and donâ&#194&#128&#194&#153t just leave them outside until they decide to dump them at shelters. A family who will love him and get a loyal companion in return. ð&#194&#159&#194&#146&#194&#153The minimum adoption donation for adults is $375 and the adoption donation for puppies is $500. Lancer IS AVAILALBE (updated 02-11-2025).To meet any of our dogs you must first complete our online adoption application on our website. For more information and the adoption application for Lancer, please visit our website belowhttp://www.coastalgsr.org/dog_profile.php?ID=22311&name=LancerThis handsome boy, around 5-7 years old, faced a catastrophic limb injury prior to landing with us. He was likely hit by a car, but we canâ&#194&#128&#194&#153t say for certain. What we know for certain is that we couldn&#39t say no and knew we had to help him!Sweet Lancer was picked up as a stray by Animal Control. He was non weight bearing on his front left leg and seemed to be in a lot of pain. The shelter had an X-ray done to check out the leg. The radiographs showed multiple fractures of the Ulna and of the Radius. The shelter sent an email out saying that this dog had to be rescued by 4pm. At first glance, we didn&#39t think we could take on yet another complicated medical case, but we also couldn&#39t stand the thought of Lancer being euthanized and we sent a volunteer transporter out to pick him up. Lancer went straight to our vet where his X-rays were evaluated and it was decided that the best outcome for him would be amputation, as his fractures were displaced and pretty old. (His leg had been left broken and mangled for some time.) We can&#39t imagine how painful this was for him, but youâ&#194&#128&#194&#153d never know it based on his personality. ð&#194&#159&#194&#146&#194&#153Lancer fully recovered from his surgery, can get up and down stairs, gets along with large and small dogs, and enjoys zoomies and playful dogs more than just about anything. This cutie is shy and timid around new people (especially men) at first, but once you build trust he&#39ll follow you to the ends of the earth (to ask for belly rubs). He can be more scared of children, although he has lived with them and currently lives with teenagers in his foster home, but doesnâ&#194&#128&#194&#153t interact with them (by choice). When they get too rambunctious, he removes himself. Lancer is a gentle soul who canâ&#194&#128&#194&#153t wait to find his forever family. The minimum adoption donation for adults is $375 and the adoption donation for puppies is $500. For more information and the adoption application for Leah, please visit our website belowhttp://www.coastalgsr.org/dog_profile.php?ID=22329&name=LeahLeah came to us a terrified, shut down, feral dog whom animal control had confiscated from a very bad situation. She was so shut down, it took a long (long!) time to get her to allow any type of interaction with humans. We spent month after month earning her trust, socializing her, and teaching her to overcome her many fears. Around 6 years old now, she moved from the training facility into a foster home and is doing fantastic, but will need a special adopter. At first, she was scared to enter the house, the tile scared her, and it took coaxing for her to enter. Leah now seeks affection, is playing with toys, plays with her human foster, is totally comfortable being inside, crate trained, potty trained, and is learning that the world isnâ&#194&#128&#194&#153t such a scary place. She went to the beach for the first time and loved it!While she&#39s your normal, energetic Maligator in her foster home, she is still figuring out the world outside of those doors. She spends time every day being exposed to new things, but when she&#39s scared she does try to bolt. She used to hit the end of the leash and frantically chew to break free (which is why she wears a long fur saver), but now, when something new and loud is that scary, she bolts and stops when she hits the end of the leash, even going into a sit. Leah is a jaw snapping, toy playing, chew obsessed Malinois in her home and is going to need someone who understands Mals, who can supply structure, who is patient, and who can slowly build trust with her. Because she&#39s such a flight risk, we are going to be very careful about where we place her, because she means the world to us.The minimum adoption donation for adults is $375 and the adoption donation for puppies is $500. For more information and the adoption application for Hans, please visit our website belowhttp://www.coastalgsr.org/dog_profile.php?ID=22524&name=HansHans sat at a county shelter patiently waiting for his owners to come and get him but after two months they never came. He didn&#39t understand what happened; had he done something wrong? Confused, he just sat and waited. And then he ran out of time. Fortunately Coastal GSR stepped in and brought him into their rescue family. Confused by his new surroundings at first, he quickly settled in to a new routine surrounded by a bunch of new friends, regular walks, occasional snacks, and lots of interesting things going on around him in the kennel. Nicknamed &#39Handsome Hans&#39 by one of our partner veterinarians, Hans is indeed very good looking. Plus he is big and energetic. He LOVES walks, sniffing out exciting new smells and dog cookies!Hans recently went into a foster home where there are multiple medium and large dogs of various ages. He used to be dog reactive but since working with his new fosters, he is like a new dog! He&#39s gained weight, plays with toys, and gets along with the dogs in the home. His overall mental health has changed for the better since he was removed from a kennel environment. He is enjoying life, walks, and being in a family situation. We are not sure how he would be with young children or small dogs so a perfect home for Hans would have older children/young adults or just adults. With proper introduction, he would be good with another large dog(s) or would be happy in a home being the only dog too.The minimum adoption donation for adults is $375 and the adoption donation for puppies is $500. They were being given away &#39free to good home&#39 and were rescued by an animal lover who didn&#39t want to see them land in the wrong hands! Fiona settled into the kennel life very easily and charmed her way into the hearts of all of the volunteers. She needed treatment for a cancerous tumor that she likely got when she became pregnant with her pups. The good news here is that she is done with her treatments and has been cancer free for over 6 months! Yay for Fiona! Fiona would love a home to call her own. She has been to obedience training, knows all her basic commands and walks well on a leash. She would do best in a home with older kids and no other dogs or cats. She loves car rides and would love an active lifestyle! If Fiona sounds like a fit for you, please let us know.
