Meet Ella! This big cloud of a pup came into the Shelter as an owner surrender. She came into the Shelter with her sister “Nova”. Although Shelter staff and volunteers are advocating for the sisters to be adopted together – these two could also go to separate homes. Ella is the more confident of the two sisters. She spent some time in a foster home away form her sister and did well. She met other dogs, went on walks and really enjoyed hanging out with her foster family. A home with another dog may be a fit provided any resident dogs meet at the Shelter prior to adoption. Due to some observed prey drive, a home without cats or small animals is recommended. Ella has been around children in a previous home and has done well.Interested in meeting Ella? Come to the Shelter today! From 10/5 through 10/31, we are having a “Spooky Low Adoption Fees” promotion. All cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies will have a reduced adoption fee of $31, while small animals will have a fee of $13. No tricks, all treats! Come on in to meet your new BFF today at 1001 Rodriguez Street, Santa Cruz from 11-6pm. All adoptions are first come, first serve in person at the Shelter, and must be completed before 4:45pm.

Meet Nova! This sweet up came into the Shelter as an owner surrender. She came into the Shelter with her sister “Ella”. Although Shelter staff and volunteers are advocating for the sisters to be adopted together – these two could also go to separate homes. Nova is initially reserved when meeting people but once she warms up – she is a LOVE. She may take a bit of time to acclimate to a new home but trust us, the patience will be worth the wait. A home with another dog may be a fit provided any resident dogs meet at the Shelter prior to adoption. Due to some observed prey drive, a home without cats or small animals is recommended. Meet Luna! She came to the Shelter as an owner surrender after her previous guardian could no longer care for her. She is the perfect mix of playful and chill. She is currently hanging out in a foster home to get a break from the Shelter and so Shelter staff can learn more about her. They report: “Luna is doing very well, we are grateful to have the opportunity to share with her. She is very playful and expressive.” Luna’s foster family consists of a family with older children. She has also lived in a home with a chihuahua previously. Any resident dogs should meet at the Shelter prior to adoption. Her next home is recommended to be small animal and cat free. Luna`s adoption has been sponsored by a generous donor! If you are interested in meeting this gorgeous husky – come to the Shelter to set up a time to fall in love! From 10/5 through 10/31, we are having a “Spooky Low Adoption Fees” promotion. Story
Meet Rocky! This handsome GSD mix came into the Shelter with another dog (who has since been adopted). Prior to Shelter life, Rocky hadn`t experienced much outside of his home. Understandably, arriving at the Shelter was a bit of a shock to the system. After some time and patience with staff and volunteers - Rocky began to show his true colors and was a goofy, playful boy. You can see him going on walks with volunteers or playing with other adoptable dogs at the Shelter. Rocky recently spent some time in a foster home with a couple and their family. The fosters report: `It took him a couple of days to warm up but he`s very comfortable and affectionate with us both now. We had a successful outting at a swimming hole. He swam across the river and had a great romp in the sand. He played nicely with a small dog and tolerated the presence of other people who kept their distance. We took him to the beach yesterday and he seemed to enjoy the surf and meeting another dog. He has started to learn sit and coming when called`. A home with a confident canine companion may be a fit but any potential suitors should meet at the Shelter prior to adoption. Rocky has lived in a home with children infant age to teenagers. A home with kids may be a fit. We do not have any history of Rocky in a home with cats or small animals. From 10/5 through 10/31, we are having a “Spooky Low Adoption Fees” promotion. All cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies will have a reduced adoption fee of $31, while small animals will have a fee of $13. Meet Ginger! Ginger is an adolescent GSD mix that came to the Shelter as a stray. Since being in the Shelter, she has been going out for walks and adventures with staff. She also attends playgroup regularly with other dogs that enjoy a game of chase and wrestling. Ginger went into a foster home recently and we are learning so much valuable information about this gal. Here is what her foster reports: -crate trained and sleeps peacefully through the night-house trained with access to a doggy door and sliding door for easy access outdoors at all times-loves having a canine housemate to play with (resident dog is an XL neutered male dog)-still learning life skills and house manners like `don`t run around the house with slippers or put paws on the counter`GOOD NEWS.. she is really food motivated so behavior change is a breeze with this smartie.-loves walking on a long line. does pull on leash when on a short line-can be a little mouthy when hyped upGinger is loving being out of the Shelter and in a foster home but what she would love even more... a home to call her own! Interested in her? Come to the Shelter to set up a meet and greet today. From 10/5 through 10/31, we are having a “Spooky Low Adoption Fees” promotion. Story
Meet Ruby! This 10 month old black lab GSD mix came to the Shelter very under socialized and fearful of men. Things can be scary for her and she mostly avoids or pulls away, but is improving on her fear of new things and men.Ruby would thrive in a quiet home with a dog savvy adopter who will give her the time and patience to warm up. A home with a confident large (40+ lb) dog in the home that would want to play with her and show her the ropes may be a fit as she has done well in her dog to dog interactions. A home with a dog savvy cat would also be possible, as her previous home had cats, that she got along great with. A home with active minors or frequent parties will not be a fit for this lovely gal. Ruby’s adopters will be required to commit to force free training to increase her confidence and comfort with the world around her. She is already responding well in a foster home setting. She is observed to use the potty outside, but adopters should anticipate needing to potty train her to go where you would like. She slept in the crate while in her foster home and holds her pee all night. She is also great in the car. From 10/5 through 10/31, we are having a “Spooky Low Adoption Fees” promotion. All cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies will have a reduced adoption fee of $31, while small animals will have a fee of $13.
