Story
Meet Billy:We're very excited to finally introduce Billy, a special, lovable, and goofy boy who is ready to begin looking for the right forever home.Billy needs an adopter who can commit to lifelong, thoughtful management around strangers and who is prepared to advocate for his emotional wellbeing. He is not a dog who wants to greet visitors and will do best in a home that can use physical barriers and separate spaces when people come over. Keeping Billy feeling safe is key to his success.Being left alone can be challenging for him, so his future family should be prepared to support him with gradual training, patience, and consistency. Quiet living suits Billy best. A home with property, or an adopter who can take him out for calm walks and hikes in unpopulated areas, is ideal. Busy walking routes, unfamiliar people, passing dogs, and time alone can be stressful for him, but with steady, respectful support, Billy continues to build confidence at his own pace.Billy may do well living with another calm, compatible female dog, and potentially with cats, provided introductions are slow and thoughtfully managed. He will benefit from working closely with an AnimalKind‑accredited trainer and his veterinarian. Potential adopters should expect that it may take a few visits before Billy feels comfortable with a new person, and should be ready to move at his speed.Billy is currently on a strict allergy diet trial and will be placed as foster‑to‑adopt until the trial is complete.Billy isn't looking for just any home - he's looking for someone willing to meet him where he's at and appreciate the truly special, silly boy he is. Walk-ins are prioritized. We are open to walk in's Tuesday - Saturday 12 pm -4 pm (except for Stat Holidays). In order to prepare for your visit, you can submit a Pre-Adoption Questionnaire as well at;https://spca.bc.ca/adoption/dog-pre-adoption-questionnaire/ Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 42.4 Age: 1yrs 11mths 3wks

ADOPTION ALERT: STUNNING LONG AND LEAN AVAILABLE Meet Freddie - 65lbs of energy, enthusiasm and joy Birthday: Not quite sure but some time in October of 2024 Weight: A looooong and lean 65lbs Currently in Foster in Nelson, BC Who is he? an eager to please, clever goofball, extremely smart, food motivated, playful & enthusiastic, FAST... this boy can run...Loves routine! Skills include: - did we mention he is FAST! He would be GREAT at agility - 10/10 on the cuddle scale - a bit like a house alarm, will bark to alert you (with positive reinforcement he knows to cease when instructed) - 10/10 on bringing joy and enthusiasm to all things in life - plays well with other dogs after proper introduction - loves to learn and work - good with horses, chickens and cats - great in the car and is crate trained for short periods of down time (overnight he prefers his own bed or yours) Work in Progress includes: - can be reactive with new dogs if not introduced properly - shy when meeting new people or dogs - his early life in the shelter has caused him to be wary of strangers but once he knows you, he warms right up - trust is earned with Freddie, not given automatically Ideal home: - ideally with a doggie sibling who will tolerate his playful puppy-ness but could be an only dog as long as he had regular play dates - he loves routine - rural setting away from the hustle and bustle of city life - fenced outdoor space he can safely explore - people who will worship him and make him feel safe and loved - humans with experience with shy dogs who can boost his confidence - a life that offers adventure and allows him to grow into the amazing dog he is becoming - a home willing to continue his raw feeding Medical Flex: - he is healthy, raw fed and has delayed neuter to allow his growth plates to close Freddie’s Dream: Find a human who loves him as much as he loves to run! Someone who will be patient with him as he finds his way and overcomes “stranger danger” and loves to cuddle on the couch.

Story
Meet Fifi! 🖤🤍 Some dogs take a little longer to find their forever, not because they're any less amazing, but because they're waiting for the right person. That's our girl Fifi. And she is so very deserving of a home. Fifi is a stunning 5-year-old shepherd–husky mix (about 70 lbs of fluff, personality, and loyalty) who thrives in a calm, structured environment. She's low-energy, deeply devoted to her people, and happiest simply being near you, supervising from the couch with her signature side-eye, of course. 👀💕 She's fully house and kennel trained, loves her toys (especially stuffies and rope toys), and has a goofy streak that shines through once she's comfortable. She's the kind of dog who will proudly celebrate a potty break with a zoomie lap and quietly steal a sock if you leave it unattended. 🏃‍♀️💨 Fifi does best with routine and consistent handling, and she's been working hard on her leash skills. She can be leash reactive, so she'll need a confident, patient adopter who is committed to continuing her training and helping her feel safe on walks. She does well with other dogs with proper introductions and may even love having a calm canine companion in her next home. She's looking for a cat-free home though. Fifi's heart is pure gold, a soft, loyal companion who loves cozy moments, peanut butter, and being part of someone's world. If you're ready for a meaningful bond with a truly special girl, Fifi is ready for you. 💛🐾

Story
Say hello to Lou Lou Who, though we call him Louie for short. This 1-year-old, 6-pound Chinese Crested mix might be tiny, but he has a personality that fills the whole room and he is looking for his "chosen person"! He loves his naps (especially on the bed with his foster mom) and is a big fan of "slim" stuffed animals. When he wakes up, watch out for the zoomies! He is incredibly playful and full of energy. ⚡ Louie is a total sweetheart with some of the cutest quirks we've ever seen: ♥️The "Nose-Poke": Because his tongue doesn't go straight out of his mouth, he pokes you with his nose to give you "kisses". 🤗He is a loyal lap dog who loves napping with his foster mom. Louie is shy at first, but once he chooses you, he is loyal to the core. 🐕‍🦺He loves other dogs so much that he prefers to sleep right on top of his larger foster siblings rather than beside them. 🛏️He is a pro in his kennel and associates it with treats and mealtime. 🚶Louie is currently nervous on a leash and isn't a big fan of walks yet, though he will tolerate short ones. 🩺Important Update: Louie is currently on a medical hold. He has a damaged jaw, and we are working with our vets to diagnose the issue and ensure he gets the care he needs. Additionally, his house training is still a work in progress, so he'll need a patient family ready to help him learn the ropes. 🚽 Follow us for updates on his medical journey! 🐾 Of note: He is great around birds and shows no interest in them. His history with cats is currently unknown.

Story
Meet Oreo 🤍🖤 At 7 years young and 120 pounds, this gentle Great Dane gal is serving up extra-large love with a cookies-and-cream twist. Oreo is mostly a professional couch potato, but don't let the chill vibe fool you — she still enjoys a nice walk and will occasionally surprise you with the most adorable, bouncy play jumps. Oreo is wonderful with medium to large dogs, though small pups aren't really her style. Because she's a big, strong lady, she'd shine with dog-savvy older kids who understand her size. She hasn't been tested with cats yet. She's fully house trained and can be trusted loose in the home like the polite queen she is. On leash, she walks beautifully, but she'll need someone comfortable handling a powerful dog. Crates aren't her favorite going in, but once she's settled, she's perfectly fine. People are Oreo's favorite thing in the whole world. Expect gentle nuzzles, soulful eyes, and the occasional insistence that your hands exist purely for petting her 🥰 Winning her heart is easy: chicken treats, bully sticks, and even a bit of cardboard will make you her hero. If you're looking for a loyal, low-key best friend with bursts of goofy charm and a whole lot of love to give, Oreo is ready to claim her spot on your couch ❤️
