Story
Sweet Keisha is looking for a home. She is 40 lb shepherd x lab with a kind and brave soul, who just melts into the arms of those kind enough to give her affection. Keisha was found in Puerto Vallarta, skinny and hungry, trying to care for and protect her litter of 6 puppies. She had dug a small hole to hide them as she stood over them, chained up, until thankfully the angels of the SPCA PV came to rescue them. After her rescue, they learned that Keisha was also blind, they believe from poisoning. Keisha's pups all inherited her kind soul and affection for humans. And we hope that Keisha herself will find her own happiness. Naturally because she can't see, she enjoys sniffari walks, to take in the world around her, and would love a safe property to explore her world in between cuddles with a family that this time would love her. If you think you may be able to give Keisha a home, we'd love to hear from you at pvcaadoptions@gmail.com. You can also go directly to our application here: https://forms.office.com/r/b1Fkq3u4zw

Story
Beautiful husky girl Chiquita, born April 2023, is looking for a home. She is approximately 41 lbs. Her mum and littermates were often seen wandering in the area of the SPCA PV sanctuary and staff and volunteers saw them in deteriorating condition due to a diet heavy on garbage and took them in to give them the care they needed. After she got refuge in the sanctuary, she lived through a hurricane which heavily damaged the shelter, and she had temporary refuge in a home that unfortunately had a landlord that didn't allow dogs.. but in that time, she learned what a home is and what it is meant to be loved. Chiquita is an energetic girl so she’d love a yard with some space to burn off some zoomies but was in a foster home in an apartment. She loves the beach. Her foster mom just loved her, described her as a fast learner, and a great cuddler. She has learned basic commands - sit, come, waits to eat her food. She isn't destructive in the home and did well in the car. She is selective with other dogs, and can be reactive, and would squabble with her siblings. Kids make her nervous so she'd prefer a quiet adult home where she can learn more about the world. Chiquita would be best in a home without cats as she shows high prey drive. Video of Chiquita with her shelter friends: https://www.facebook.com/spcapv/videos/1401202434079126 She is now healthy and vaccinated. If you think you might be her happy home, please contact us at pvcaadoptions@gmail.com for more information. Chiquita is currently in Mexico but can fly to a Canadian home near you! With a bit of guidance, this excitable girl is quickly mastering the art of keeping her cool-though sometimes, her excitement just can't be contained! Who can blame her, right? 😊She's already got a solid start on crate training and potty training, so she's off to a fantastic start with her basic manners. Story
Meet Gus, a friendly and energetic dog who is looking for a loving home where he can feel safe and comfortable. Gus can be a bit nervous when meeting new people, so he'll need slow, gentle introductions to help him build trust. Once he feels at ease, his loving and loyal nature shines through, and you'll quickly see what an amazing companion he can be. He can also be a bit anxious in new situations and will thrive with slow introductions to new places.Gus is still learning about leash manners, and while he's making great progress with his harness training with a few gentle reminders. Gus loves to put things in his mouth and tends to eat things that he shouldn't and needs to learn this isn't a good idea. We've started working on muzzle training with him to help him make better decisions about what to eat when out on walks or playing in the yard.Gus would do best in a home with a fenced yard where he can run and explore safely and brush up on some of the skills he hasn't had a chance to learn yet.Gus is a sweet, intelligent dog with so much potential to thrive in the right environment that has the time and consistency to put into him. If you're looking for a dog who will grow into an incredible companion with some patience and love, Gus could be the perfect fit for you! Story
Meet Charlie, a 3-year-old bundle of energy and joy! Charlie is an exuberant, playful boy who loves to be the center of attention. He can be a bit shy when meeting new people, but once he's settled in his loving and affectionate nature shines through. He will do best in an adult oriented home with some dog experience, and are also home a lot as he still needs to learn how to be alone. He may be able to live with older children (12+) but will need guidance to develop an appropriate relationship with them. Charlie previously lived with another dog and could do well with another playful friendly dog similar in size, however he can get quite excited and needs slow controlled introductions to set him up for success. Charlie does have some prey drive and wouldn't be a good fit in a home with cats or other small animals. He will thrive in an active household where he can get both physical exercise and mental stimulation. He loves puzzle feeders, Kongs, brain games and loves learning new things and would be fun for someone who likes training. He loves long walks, though he is still learning his leash manners and needs some ongoing training to really master this skill. He's doing much better with walking on his harness and is improving every day.If you're ready for a nice balance of snuggles and fun adventures, Charlie might be the right dog for you.
