Story
Layla is available through our "Adopt From a Foster Home" program. Please email adopt@calgaryhumane.ca if you are interested in scheduling a meeting. Please do not make an appointment through our online booking calendar, as Layla is not available to meet on site. Age: 1 yearWeight: 26.5 kgA bit about me:- has lived kids 11+; can be jumpy - all interactions should be supervised- unknown history with cats; history of chasing small animals on walks; introductions should be slow and supervised- dogs okay pending successful introduction ( has lived with dogs previously)- has displayed signs of separation stressLayla is an affectionate, smart, and lively adolescent pup looking for her forever home. After a bumpy start to life, she is rapidly learning all of the skills necessary to be a loving and loyal family pet. This social butterfly loves to play with both people and other dogs, making a lasting impression on anyone that's lucky enough to meet her. When she gets the chance to make new friends, her excitement may cause her to become jumpy. This means that any interactions with young children should be supervised as she learns a more appropriate way of introducing herself. Don't worry though, Layla is highly intelligent and a fast learner! She already knows sit, lay down and shake a paw - and is always looking to please her humans. She is also house trained and continues to make great progress on her crate training! On walks, Layla is responding well to the leash. She has ample energy for long hikes in the mountains, but is equally content to play tug-of-war at home, entertain herself with a bone or a chew toy, or curl up for snuggles with her humans. Layla has shown signs of separation stress and struggles when in shelter, or left alone for long periods. She seeks a home comfortable with managing separation stress and helping her work towards confidence when left alone. Layla is currently handling short absences well, and the adoptions and behavior teams can support you with making a plan to help set Layla up for success. Layla is currently hanging out in a foster home as she's really not a fan of the shelter, so please email our adoptions team to set up a meeting with Layla today!

Age: 7 monthsWeight: 26.8 kgA bit about me:- unknown history with dogs; okay pending successful intro- unknown history with cats; slow, supervised intros recommended- adult only home REQUIREDDennis is a social and boisterous adolescent pup who loves human attention! He is still working on greeting new people politely, but is working hard to learn the best ways to say hi! Dennis can easily become frustrated when he is asked to perform a difficult skill, or his body language is not respected, so we are looking for an adult only home for Dennis that can provide him with plenty of mental and physical enrichment, as well as patient, consistent training that can set him up for success. In a consistent, structured home, you'll see Dennis' sweet and snuggly side and be rewarded with an amazing pup who will someday make a great adventure buddy and couch snuggler! Welcome Dennis home today!

Despite being a big boy, Rio would love to snuggle right in next to you on the couch and plop his big head on your lap. He loves to play fetch, tug of war and catch, and already knows sit, down, stay, paw, and drop it. This middle aged gent loves a good walk, especially if you visit a park or walking trail where he can enjoy lots of new smells and his foster dad says he is generally quite polite on leash too! His foster dad also describes him as a total lovebug who is eager to give kisses all day long. Not too much is known about Rio's history! He was quite nervous and scared when he arrived at our shelter, but with some love, treats and patience he warms up well to new people and will be your best snuggle buddy when he feels safe. Rio also has some allergies and is currently on a medication to keep his skin looking and feeling comfortable. Rio is hanging out in shelter and is eager to meet you; please reach out today!

This beautiful girl is a social and vocal sweetheart looking for an active and enriching home. She's very smart, eager to work for food, and loves to go on long walks to sniff. She is quite strong, so she's working on learning loose leash skills. A home that is experienced with dogs would be ideal for her as she might be a bit of a handful for first-time owners. While she isn't a huge fan of other dogs, she absolutely loves people and will give you more than enough activity and attention on her own! Having come from a rough past, Sunflower is eager to make the most of her future. If you have room in your heart for this energetic and friendly girl, then please come meet her soon!

**Mr. Worldwide is a Patient Paw, please ask about their reduced adoption fee and the possibility of a sleepover!**Age: 2 yearsWeight: 30kg / 66lbA bit about me:- Unknown history with cats. All introductions should be slow and supervised.- Unknown history with dogs. Potential for select dog in home pending successful dog to dog.- Unknown history with children. All introductions should be slow and supervised. - May do well as a rural placement, but not required.Ah, summer! Hiking, camping, swimming, and long days and nights enjoying the great outdoors! Summer fun is better with a buddy, and that's where Mr. Worldwide, our pitbull mix, (get it?) comes in. Always happiest in the sunshine, Mr. Worldwide seeks an equally adventurous, outdoorsy partner to explore the world with. Whether it's an acreage, urban home with a big backyard, or just a family who loves to be out in nature exploring, Mr. Worldwide is ready to bring his enthusiasm for the world. He's definitely no couch potato, but after a fun walk or hike, he'd love a relaxing backyard snooze under your hammock! Mr. Worldwide is still working on when it's okay to party, but he is willing and excited to work for food and learn when to bring the dance moves and when to chill. Mr. Worldwide is stressed in shelter, so we are eager to send him home. If you'd like to trial his hiking buddy skills, swing by the shelter and ask about a Patient Paw Sleepover, or just adopt him on the spot!
