Story
Faith / Female / 4 yrs / 51 pounds / Dalmatian Mix / Sweet and Independent / Deaf Sweetheart / Dog Selective / No Cats / Dog Savvy Kids Aged 10+ / Medium Energy / Fostered in Toronto / From Tennessee Meet Faith! Lovely Faith is the ultimate sweetheart looking for a loving home after being abandoned along with three other dogs when her owners moved away. Found tied up outside, it's suspected she spent her entire life in this situation, but her spirit remains bright. She has now made the trip to Toronto looking for her forever home. Sweet Faith was born deaf so can be a bit shy and cautious when meeting new people. Once she knows she can trust someone she is very loving and eager to please. She loves using her nose and eyesight, and is very food motivated. Faith loves cuddles, belly rubs, and chin scratches. She loves sniffing when out on her walks and is learning to play with toys. Faith is very motivated by treats and will do excited spin and sits to get a treat. She gets so excited when her foster comes home that she does a full body wiggle even in her crate. She will lean right into her trusted people for cuddles or place her chin on your lap or hands and gaze up lovingly. Since Faith cannot hear, she can get a bit overwhelmed and overly focused on watching people or movements when outside. She gets nervous if strangers act in unusual manners but is also curious. She is really trying to figure everything out and appreciates extra guidance from her foster. She may alert bark when out but doesn't pursue anything. She currently gets 3 walks a day of about half an hour. When she is relaxed she walks well and loose on leash. She will sometimes catch a scent and linger. She is very curious about critters and will pull towards them. Faith likes to follow her trusted people around the house. She is crated when left alone and settles quickly. She has stayed in the crate for up to 6 hours and is comfortable in there. She sleeps in the crate at night with the door open. She is food motivated so may try to counter surf if given the opportunity. She does not bark or howl when left alone. Faith is completely potty trained. She is working on basic training using hand gestures. She knows sit and is working on stay. She is very treat motivated and eager to please. Faith appreciates slow intros and needs time to approach, sniff, and get to know people on her own terms. Once she's comfortable she is a total love bug and wants to be close to her people. She is very loving, bonds quickly and easily, and likes to follow her people around the house. She hasn't met any children yet but would likely do well with older dog-savvy children who are respectful of her space and don't sneak up on her. Faith appears to be dog-selective. She lived with other dogs on the farm in Tennessee but hasn't met many since coming into foster care. She has mixed reactions to seeing dogs on the street but there doesn't seem to be a pattern. She has growled and yapped at a couple of dogs, and has wagged her tail and rolled over for others. She will likely be dog social but needs space and proper intros for now. She has shown a desire to chase squirrels and other critters and has not been tested with cats. Faith is looking for a quiet home and a patient family who can spend time showing her she is safe and working with her to be her best self. She would do best in a home with a yard to hang out in and explore but she could live in a condo or apartment. She will need a family committed to working with her on training and basic skills, including the use of hand signals. She will need a calm environment to decompress and thrive. Faith's gentle and loving nature will make her a cherished member of a lucky family. If you have love and patience to set her up with structure we believe she will be a wonderful family pet. Story
ELLIE" is a POINTER MIX, about 4 years old and weights aprox. 25 kg. "ELLIE" was saved by Anastasia herself who believed the dog to be pregnant so she picked her up from the street in order to have our vet check her out and then bring her to our sanctuary to safely deliver her babies. But the stop at our vet proved that "ELLIE" was simply fat. Needless to say that Anastasia did not return the dog to that area but brought her in to our sanctuary where she's been loved and cared for ever since. Anastasia found out later that a woman in that neighborhood in order to keep the strays around her house as a security system kept overfeeding them with all the wrong things.. "ELLIE" is a picture of health. And with the proper diet, food and exercise she lost all excess weight and is now perfectly fit! She is also fully vetted and vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed. In addition she has been housebroken and leash trained. "ELLIE" is quite human centered. She immediately hits it off with strangers and absolutely adores to be petted. She is also very food oriented and easily trainable. She is social with other dogs, but very eclectic and choosy when it comes to playmates. "ELLIE" would be happy in any sort of family. Story
DUKE is a POINTER MIX, 4 years old and weights approx 24kg. "DUKE" was found by a SPFG friend who was out in the woods with her dog. He was unconscious and starved almost to death, just skin on bones. He was one of the countless puppies hunters abandon when they discover they can't use them or sell them for hunting or breeding. Anastasia took him straight to our vet and called us. After a long phase of convalescence, followed a long period of recuperation; but now "DUKE" is a picture of health, fully vetted and vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered, also housebroken and leash trained. "DUKE" is an absolutely carefree boy who just loves everyone and everything, dogs, cats, people, strangers, bees, toads, car rides, doctors, butterflies, food. He gets excited seeing his friends even after a 5 min parting. He is curious, inquisitive and as a hunting dog has unlimited energy outdoors, whereas he calms inside. "DUKE" is a sensitive boy, very affectionate who needs gentle handling. He would be happy in any type of family, if he has ways to spend all that energy. If interested in adopting our active boy "DUKE" please visit our website to fill out an application at; www.straypawsfromgreece.com
