To schedule a time to meet this dog, please email Kathryn at kvry@arl-iowa.org.---- A shy girl who prefers to make friends at her own pace; has built steady relationships here and remembers her people well - Once she is comfortable, she's very "in your pocket" and will fully climb into your lap - Draws confidence from those she is comfortable with and will greatly benefit from continued confidence-building in her new home to help her feel more at ease with new people and new situations- Enjoys tasty treats and making friends through like-minded activities- Tends to be more fearful of men than women- Looking for a teens-and-up home right now to set her up for success - Tends to be unsure and introverted around other dogs and prefers to take things slowly (dog intro recommended)All adoptable dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and DA2PPV as appropriate for their age)The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. When I was born, I assure you I didn't want to grow up to be left in a high kill shelter, however, that is what happened to me. LUCKILY, the fates (and some awesome rescue folks) aligned and saved me from certain death and brought me to a safe place where I can find a REAL family and a REAL home. Let me tell you about myself, I am cute, happy, loving, nervous at times, but have the long legs of a pointer! I have lots of energy for running, jumping and playing and I have the handsome chiseled jaw that most actors would love to have! Now if you need a great looking chap, look my way!!! So Arika is an unusual name, right?? Well, yes it is!! It actually means "ruler of ALL" and I identify with that feeling :D OK, I am not the ruler of all, but I am the ruler of ALL my friends! We have kind of a democratic system set up...... I tell them what to do and they LISTEN and they do what they want! So, that is the level of my "ruler-ness". However, I have a lot more to offer than just rules and regulations.... I HAVE LOVE! You see, I know love and I know despair...my daughter Mika and I were found on the streets, eating trash and anything we could get our faces on.... until the day that a "street feeder/rescuer" found us. From that day forward we had HOPE... And here we are in the rescue and thriving! I rule all my friends and we are now just waiting for our furever homes. I am a big girl, kind of deceivingly... I don't look that big but weigh in over 70# I am great with other dogs- big and small, as long as they want to play and hang out, I am down with that... My bestest home would be with another playful dog and kids please :) So I am here waiting, and RULING, and waiting for you to find me! I will let you in on a little secret too... I HAVE A HEART ON MY SIDE :D So you will have a reminder to all that dogs offer to your life every time you look at my side. Sign the contract and adopt me soon!!!
