Story
Roxy is a funny little dog who is a lot of fun to have around. She is low maintenance, she loves going for long walks, and is always up for them (rain or shine). She loves walking around a fenced yard and really entertains herself just by exploring. She is super athletic she jumps on top of a 4 foot gate & walks on the top of it (on a skinny little metal pole) , so a fenced yard has to be pretty tall for her. It looks like she is a gymnast on a very skinny balance beam! She might be a great agility dog but unlike many dogs like that, she is not demanding. We joke because of her tough looks that she the is really a guardian angel disguised as small four-legged bouncer. She does not chew on things she shouldn't and goes outside of her run so we believe she is likely housetrained. If you are interested in Roxy please let us know. Thank you for your interest in Roxy! Story
Meet Cash! This sweet Dachshund mix was found running as a stray by our favorite Fed Ex driver and animal advocate, Paula, in Kings Mountain, NC. She took him in, contacted the local shelter, and posted on social media, but no one was looking for this sweet boy. He was not neutered or microchipped, but quickly proved to be a confident, social little guy. We suspect he lived in a home and had some early socialization. Paula reached out to our team for assistance, and we are happy to help Good Samaritans who take action to help a dog in need. Cash spent a month in his South Carolina foster home, living with another dog and enjoying regular visits from the grandkids while he completed his vetting. His foster mom described him as a social, active, and cuddly pup who meets new people with ease and thrives as part of a pack. In early December, Cash came up to DC, where he’s now embracing city life with his new foster family. He quickly bonded with the young dog in his foster home, finding an instant playmate, and has adapted well to the city’s sights and sounds. His leash skills are still a work in progress, sometimes he’s cooperative, and sometimes he has a mind of his own. With a little training, he’ll be strutting his stuff like a pro in no time. FOSTER MOM UPDATE  “Cash is an active and loving dog. He’s happy all the time and always ready to play. He is such a wiggle butt, his whole back end wiggles when he gets excited. As a young pup, he needs to get his energy out or he will find his way into mischief. He does love to chew, so I make sure he has plenty of bones and bully sticks to keep him busy. He’s full of energy and ready to go first thing in the morning after having breakfast. I put both dogs out in the yard, and they run and run and burn off that energy. They are both ready to chill when they come in. Cash has been wonderful with all of my visitors and hasn’t met a stranger yet. He will grumble a little when they first arrive, but once they let him smell and sniff, he is happy to have company. He loves my grandkids and actually slept with one of the boys when they visited. He likes other dogs too. He met my neighbor’s dog, and they often run and play together. I think Cash will do better with another dog in his home as he seems to follow the lead of other dogs. He’s still very young and would also benefit from a playmate in his new home. When Cash first arrived, everything was new to him, but he picked up things really quickly. He has learned “No”, “Come”, and “Down” already. He is fully housebroken and will go to the door when he needs to go out or first wakes up from a nap. He was not a fan of the crate at first but has learned that when I put my shoes on, he gets a treat. I toss his treat into the crate, and he goes in. He’s fine until I get home. I tried to leave him out one day, and he chewed up some flip-flops, so I think he’s still a little too young to be trusted out on his own.  He sleeps in his bed beside my bed every night and sleeps soundly through the night. He would rather sleep with me, but I have a high bed and due to his long back and short legs, I don’t want him jumping up or down. He is always next to me when I’m sitting on the couch and is my shadow around the house. As far as getting out and about, he does well in the car but his leash skills are a work in progress. Some days he’s right on track, other days he has a mind of his own. I have to be very consistent when working with him. If he gets his way one day, he starts his next day by being stubborn. He needs someone that will hold him to the rules.” ****** Cash will bring fun and joy to your home and is an excellent dog buddy. He needs an active home and would love to have a pup to play with. He’s excellent with kids and will make a great family dog.    Apply today! Story
The sweetest dog we've ever met. So gentle and loves to cuddle. Favorite things: belly rubs, scratches and walks. She loves to play with her stuffed animals and loves chase with our teens. She doesn't nip and is potty trained. She hasn't touched our belongings but likes to explore the house. She probably would do best as the only dog in the family or with a young or smaller dog. Come meet her! She's so cute and loving Visit https://www.wtarescue.com/adoption-process-2 to request a meet and greet and learn more about our adoption process! Have questions? Story
The owner of Arlo, Lainey and 4 other akc registered doxies was living in a rental home with 4 children and the landlord said the dogs had to go. Her mom took them while she was supposed to find another place to live but that did not happen. Her mom had 3 dogs of her own and was overwhelmed so she asked for help. All the dogs are sweet but we took Arlo and Lainey. These two are quite bonded so we are going to try to place them together. They are both spay/neutered, UTD on vaccines and HW negative, They will also be microchipped. In their original home, they were left on a self feeder and I am afraid Arlo overindulged but Lainey was able to keep her figure. They are both so so sweet and cute! They both Love cuddles and kisses! They both seem to be reliably housetrained. Arlo is a red pie bald and Lainey is a black and tan wirehaired doxie. Lainey was born on 9/10/2021 so she is 3 years old, Arlo is 4. If you would like to add these fun little babies to your family, please email omlc7@hotmail.com or dogs4mylife@gmail.com and we will send our info and app. If you do not see a reply, please check your spam.

Story
Please contact Nancy Anderson (nancya@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.sweet elongated girl seeking fresh start and love! RISE NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:  Rise      Best Guess for Breed: Dachshund and terrier mix Best Guess for Age: 5 years as of December 2024       Gender:   Female Approximate Weight:   23 lbs Gets Along With: Rise does well with other dogs and needs to go to a home with a friendly resident dog. We haven't seen her with cats but she can be tested if you have them. We would be cautious placing Rise in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare shy dogs with their level of energy or noise.  Children would need to be supervised closely to not leave doors open and should never walk the dog without an adult holding the leash.  We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant. Currently Living At: Will be at Lucky Dog's South Carolina rescue campus for heartworm treatment before heading to the DC area Special Adoption Considerations: Rise is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.  We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! Additionally, Rise was rescued off the streets of Puerto Rico and hasn't seen enough of the world yet. She is shy and needs go to a home with a friendly, welcoming dog. Rise is Looking For: Her forever family! She was very relieved to be rescued off the streets in Puerto Rico and now just wants her very own home. But she needs extra patient and loving adopters who understand she hasn't seen enough of the world, and many things are scary. She needs new experiences in new places at her pace. A welcoming resident dog will show her how to dog, and training will help her build her braves as well! And in exchange, she promises all the love in her little body, all the adoring gazes and kisses she's stockpiling in the shelter, and loyal companionship for all her days. What do you say? Can you see her trotting along on her little legs by your side? What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once she has arrived in the DC area and spent some time with her foster Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption.
