Story
Meet Paulie. He was surrendered to the rescue by his elderly owner as the second of four pup siblings she needs to rehome. We believe these siblings are the product of an unaltered dog in her home and have offered to pay for spaying and basic vet care to avoid future litters. She declined but has allowed us to spay the now adult puppies so we don’t end up with additional litters. We’ve already rescued and rehomed one of her pups (Ringo), and now it’s Paulie’s turn. We plan to help with the remaining two dogs as foster homes become available. Paulie has been in his foster home for almost three weeks, living with a mom, dad, teen girl, four dogs, and two cats. He does great as part of a pack, gets along with all the dogs and cats, and plays well. He’s a confident pup who has NO PROBLEM getting in the middle of the big dogs and running with them — he’s not submissive or dominant, just a nice balance of confidence. When Paulie first arrived, he was his foster mom’s shadow, but as he’s settling in, he’s finding his independence. We’ve learned that Paulie needs to learn better house manners as he’s getting a lot more socialization in his foster home. In his prior home with an elderly owner and so many dogs, he didn’t have a lot of structure or exposure to the outside world. Fortunately, he’s a social boy by nature and really likes people, so we are focusing more on improving his manners. He’s now crate-trained and sleeps in the crate at night. His foster mom, Johanna, has even found him snoozing in it by choice during the day. He’s not reliably housetrained yet, so Johanna is keeping a leash on him in the home so she can watch him closely, doing frequent potty breaks. That has worked well, but you can’t trust him just yet. The next step is working on his leash skills and seeing how he does outside the home in more active, social situations. We expected his people greeting abilities to be good, but we want to see how he reacts in a more hectic environment. Updates to follow. Overall, Paulie is a sweet, cuddly pup who needs an owner with a bit of patience to settle him in. He has a naturally friendly good nature and a moderate energy level. He is social with dogs and cats and would be great with kids, too….an excellent family dog in the making. We plan to bring Paulie to town after the Thanksgiving holiday  Apply today!  BREED ESTIMATE: Dachshund Mix GENDER: Male APPROXIMATE WEIGHT:  17 lbs  APPROXIMATE AGE: ~ 1.5 years old COAT TYPE:  short coat ADOPTION FEE: $425 OTHER INFO: utd on shots/neutered/microchipped LOCATION: York, SC - Coming to DC metro on 12/7    FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to https://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application. Story
The owner of Arlo, Lainey and 4 other akc registered doxies was living in a rental home with 4 children and the landlord said the dogs had to go. Her mom took them while she was supposed to find another place to live but that did not happen. Her mom had 3 dogs of her own and was overwhelmed so she asked for help. All the dogs are sweet but we took Arlo and Lainey. These two are quite bonded so we are going to try to place them together. They are both spay/neutered, UTD on vaccines and HW negative, They will also be microchipped. In their original home, they were left on a self feeder and I am afraid Arlo overindulged. He needs a home where they will go for walks and watch their diets. but he is so so sweet and cute! Loves cuddles and kisses! They both seem to be reliably housetrained. Arlo is a red pie bald and Lainey is a black and tan wirehaired doxie. Arlo was born on 8/13/2020 so he is 4 years old, Lainey is 3. Story
Meet sweet BILLY (aka Oscar weiner dog) who just arrived! Billy is a handsome 3 year old, 21 pound, reddish brown dachshund mix. His foster reports that he is a DREAM! He hasn't had an accident or tried to chew anything, and sleeps through the night in his crate without a peep. Loves a good snuggle on the couch with his humans. He's a gentle playmate with the larger resident dog. Loves to go for walks and is happy to meet anyone that he comes across Poor Billy was surrendered to a rural North Carolina vet office after he was attacked by another dog roaming in a trailer park in this county. The vet treated him for extensive injuries, which have all healed, and reached out for help in getting this very sweet and friendly dog into rescue. With the offer from a great foster home, PetConnect was able to come to his rescue and bring him to the DC area to find his new home that will adore him furever. While he was a country boy, he seems to adapt well to any new environment and thus would seem to be fine in the city or country as well as a home or an apartment. In the comfort of his foster home, he has already learned how good it can be to get belly rubs and cuddle! He likes to go for walks, is a great size, with an adorable very expressive face and eyes. Billy would be a great companion to curl up at your feet on a cool fall evening. ***Please note that the first step is to fill out an application (It does not commit you in anyway but allows us to discuss with you if you and the dog are a good fit). In addition, an important step in approving adoption applicants is to complete a vet check to ensure that your current and previous pet(s) are kept up to date on vaccines (including rabies ) , spayed or neutered, maintained on appropriate monthly preventatives and examined annually by your vet.*** Billy is neutered and up-to-date on vaccines. The adoption fee for this dog is $425 which includes routine vetting and spay/neuter. PetConnect Rescue cannot guarantee the exact breed of any animal in our care. The breed listed is based on any background we may have been provided, and the general appearance of the animal at the time they enter our system. For more information, please email Robin at kinstondogs@verizon.net **If you're viewing this on Petfinder, please visit www.petconnectrescue.org to complete our non-binding application.**

Story
Roxy is a funny little dog who is a lot of fun to have around. She is low maintenance, she loves going for long walks, and is always up for them (rain or shine). She loves walking around a fenced yard and really entertains herself just by exploring. She is super athletic she jumps on top of a 4 foot gate & walks on the top of it (on a skinny little metal pole) , so a fenced yard has to be pretty tall for her. It looks like she is a gymnast on a very skinny balance beam! She might be a great agility dog but unlike many dogs like that, she is not demanding. We joke because of her tough looks that she the is really a guardian angel disguised as small four-legged bouncer. She does not chew on things she shouldn't and goes outside of her run so we believe she is likely housetrained. If you are interested in Roxy please let us know. Thank you for your interest in Roxy! Please visit www.hart90.org/petdetail.aspx?ID=17424 to get the most up-to-date and accurate information on this pet, to email the contact person listed for more information and how to meet Roxy, or to submit an online application. HART adopts to the local DC/VA/MD metro area only. Visit our website for more information about our adoption process.

Story
Hi, it’s nice to meet you, I’m LeBron, a 3 year old, 17 lb., dachshund/chi mix. I don’t remember much about my former life, but I’m glad to be with A Home of Their Own Animal Rescue to find my forever home. I’m a little shy around new people given all the changes I’ve been through. I’ve been in a couple of foster homes before, and I discovered that I feel more comfortable around adults and older children. Younger children scare me with their quick, sometimes unpredictable movements. I am looking for a forever home that is quiet, patient and loving. I am housetrained so that's a plus! I like crates because they feel so cozy and safe. That said, I may need some coaxing in the beginning to get out of my crate and into the world.  Like LeBron James, I jump up high in the sky and am very high energy so will do best in a home with people that are active and can give me plenty of exercise and enrichment! That's why my foster dad named me LeBron! Also, a home with people that are home often would be nice too because I tend to get attached to my people. They make me feel safe! I'm still working on being protective of my people. I try to remember that no one is going to take them from me but it's definitely a work in progress. I know I will grow used to being around new faces; I just need people that will be patient with me so I can learn to feel safe and secure in this world. I’m a sensitive guy with a big heart once I trust someone. Are you that forever trustworthy person I’m looking for?! ##2039331##
